BMW 2002 Roundie: Installing a new tail panel on my $800 1970 BMW 2002 E10.
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
Hey everyone! Join me as I introduce my latest car project and also cover my installation of a new rear tail panel on this vintage BMW! When I purchased this 1970 BMW 2002 about two years ago, it had the wrong style rear tail panel with the rectangular style brake lights instead of the round ones. Either the car had a fender bender and this was all they could find at the time, or maybe someone ...

    Bro thanks for your video! I struggled for like 15 minutes as it would partially pop out but wouldn’t fully unseat. Just pushed it back in liked you did and finally got it. Best.

    Once airbags are replaced does the computer need recoding/resetting and how do you do that? Or does it need to go back to Tesla?

    Nice job, though the trunk floor is going to need attention at the rear edge. Always liked 2002s since our neighbor got one back in 1970 over so.

      Good to know! I'm just about done with the airbags at this point. Just had the airbag module rebuilt. I will be putting it back in soon! It still needs some front end stuff... broken lower control arm and a broken drive axle. Hopefully, it will be driving under it's own power soon!

  • @dmedic0

    Hi, I did it the other way around on my build. Replaced the pyro fuse first then airbags that will allow you to move that car on it’s on power. Mine was also blue 😂

    I suggest investing in a rechargeable power ratchet. I have a Husky and is a real time saver. Less chance of cracking the glass in this situation.

    • @ProductCred

      I think someone converted it to square back end sometime in the 1980's. They did some crazy stuff back then. I put it back to a roundie.... like it should have been.

    • @ProductCred
      @ProductCred 2 роки тому

      Thanks man! It was actually a 1970 BMW 2002. I was originally a roundie that someone else had converted to square brake lights at some point.... I think in the '80s.

They have a lot of the hard to find parts. Id put a link to a UA-cam vid of a few of my o2:s Hakan

    This is the video I needed to see! I am in the process of converting mine to a roundie. my roundie is a goner but the tail panel is going to get used on my square tail. Don't judge! Did you cut directly in the indent mark on the tail? This will be my first time cutting and welding but I am going to practice on some scrap parts. By the way, you got a sub from me! Thanks for this video.

    • @stevenandchey6172
      @stevenandchey6172 4 роки тому

      Also, it looks like you cut the whole panel out. The part you cut out that protrudes, is that where the panel meets the trunk floor? Any tips and/or suggestions when doing this? I will be cutting my roundie and square tail for this swap.

    • @ProductCred
      @ProductCred 3 роки тому

      @@stevenandchey6172 Hey Steven! Correct. I cut the entire panel out. At first, I only cut out the top section, but I ended up cutting out the entire panel later. For the sides, I cut about 2 inches from the actual seam. Then I went back and carefully trimmed, with the side of the grinder... feathering the metal until to leave enough to weld back on. It's still not perfect. Stay tuned for my next video where I'm going to be finishing it!
