Follow me as I run the Chicago 2023 Marathon. From gear check up, starting line, in race support, mile check ups, finish line, and of course the end of race snacks. I enjoyed the entire race, the city, and all the free chocolate donuts at the end. I also passed Matt Choi at minute 4:17. Pretty cool seeing him as I passed him by. #marathonrunner #chicagomarathon #bostonqualifier #marathonexperience

    I have been wanting to do this one, and your videos really help in knowing what the marathon will be like. You have done so many west coast marathons... I recommend Royal Victoria Marathon (it looks to be one of the ones you have not yet done).

      Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into that one. West coast ones seem to have the better weather but that can be hit or miss.

    Congrats! What shoes did you wear for this? Curious if high stack lightweight carbon road runners would be a bad idea. I'm excited for this race!

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 2 місяці тому

      Hey! I actually wore some road running Nike shoes looking back at my pictures. The race organization says that regular road running shoes should be fine as the gravel is fine and should not obstruct your racing. That being said it depends how comfortable you are running on gravel. Carbon fiber not sure if it would be good use because it’s not paved. But use what you feel more comfortable with and not change too much before the race.

    3:07 is super fast ! Thank you so much on the details and I am from Taiwan will go to join this race at this year. I wonder what you bring to light in the tunnel ? Using your phone or something ?

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 3 місяці тому

      People usually bring their own small flashlights. There is a drop off after the tunnel to leave it. I used my phone into the tunnel. It’s much better if you run next to other people with light so it’s easier to see because the road is not smooth so watch your step in the tunnel

    Do you get to choose which world major you want to qualify from this race, either Boston and Chicago?

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 3 місяці тому

      You can run any of those two with this race as long as you meet the race’s time per age and gender conditions. So if you meet the requirement by the time you finished you can. I used the twin cities marathon race to run Boston and Chicago.

      @@donutwalkrun BTW sorry for all the questions, should I consider medium length socks because of gravel? … I usually don’t wear socks or just no-show lightweight Injinji but I think this is not a good idea?

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 3 місяці тому

      I would consider something that is at least a bit higher than the ankle. Most of the race is on a trail with gravel. The only part that is not is the tunnel which is paved but even that has some gravel and there are pot holes and puddles. Careful to watch how you step in the tunnel, you can easily land on an awkward area and potentially fall.

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 3 місяці тому

      I can only speak for myself. If this is not your first race and have had a consistent training plan for a couple of months, I would keep the pace constant throughout that would match the finish time you are shooting for. Some people like to go all out the first half but lose steam and get a big negative split. Personally I keep track of time and the course elevation and try to hit time markers based on the mile I am in

I also thought they were all on same course but this one the beginning seems flatter. Also the tunnel seemed a few miles in till u reached it. The other 2 I thought they were at the beginning. Hard to get solid info on the comparison. Trying to decide which to do. Great video!

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun Рік тому

      Thank you! My strategy is usually to keep a constant ice throughout. I don’t like banking time. My splits are almost very even. However when I see a hill I conserve energy, take smaller steps and go on a slower pace. It usually makes up for it on the down hill which there happened to be one here. Good luck!👍🏼

      Weight training helps to build muscle which helps have a faster metabolism. But in order to see your abs you need to lose weight. We all have abs but we need to be lean enough to see them. In my experience, losing weight while retaining muscle will show your abs. However this might require very low body fat which might not be sustainable. Good luck
