    Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. I have a small doubt. When charger is not connected, AC In# high and Pbtn In also high. If we press Pwr btn, Psl logic will get low and release the S5 enable. My doubt is after we release Pwr btn, again Pbtn In will get high and psl out will high. Then how it release S5 enable continuously ?

    • @philiptroniks
      @philiptroniks День тому

      Great question. You are going deep into the concept. Let me clarify. As long as ACIN# is active low the SIO will send PSLOUT# low. But for PWRBTN# it is a different concept. SIO detects the falling edge of PWRBTN# when power button is pressed and latches (retains) PSLOUT# as low, even the PWRBTN# is high afterwards. You might come up with the question as what would happen if we again press the power button once, when laptop has turned on. To clarify this, when the laptop turns on SIO receives high logic on all SLP_S5#, SLP_S4# and SLP_S3# signals which informs the SIO to exit from sleep mode to fully functional. Therefore, ACIN# and PWRBTN# are over ruled by these sleep state signals to make PSLOUT# low as long the laptop is on. Hope I clarified your doubt. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best wishes for 2025! Why do you say "we have a display" just because the mouse is powered on? Are you referring to LVDS/EDP display or are you just verifying that you have 5v on USB (which doesn't guaranty that you have LVDS/EDP dislay).

    • @philiptroniks
      @philiptroniks 12 днів тому

      @@LarryJSabo Nice question. I'm refering to FDI inside PCH is active. If FDI is active LVDS/EDP will receive video signals. The light in the mouse will glow continuously only when the data from the pch for display is executed. In other words, the PCH will turn on all data read/write of USB, SATA, ODD only when FDI (Flexible Display Interface) signal is received from the CPU. Therefore, if we see a continuous led in mouse or any usb drive that has light blinking we can confirm that display compartment in CPU and PCH is active. Coming to your view, just having 5v on USB power will not make the mouse LED to glow continuously only when data is active we can see a continuous light. Try disconnecting the RAM and connect a mouse to see, what will happen, only once LED will blink and remains off. You can also test with keyboard by checking Caps lock and number lock response to see whether display is executed.

      @@mugabirapaul8653 I didn't get your question correctly. Are you asking why are there '#' symbols after a signal like RTC_RST# and SRTC_RST# but not in RTC_AUX_S5? If you are refering to this, then It's really a good question actually. Now when ever you see a '#' symbol after any signal you should keep in mind that the particular signal is an active low signal which means it is active only when it is low. For example, if you take ECRST# signal it is active when it is low like 0v if you have 3.3v on that line then it is in active. To reset EC chip you need to pull ECRST# low to 0v. And that's why we say # means active low. It same for all signal like RSMRST#, PLTRST#, RTCRST#, DRAMRST# all active low. Also, You might see in some charger ICs ACOK and ACOK# also. If you have ACOK then on that pin it should be 3.3v or high logic. If you have ACOK# on that pin it should be 0v or low logic. Hope I clarified your doubt.

    • @philiptroniks
      @philiptroniks 18 днів тому

      @@mugabirapaul8653 Nice catch. Yes you are correct PCH will release S4 and S3 signal only after PWRBTN_OUT# input to PCH from SIO. Let me clarify. Have you ever noticed that if you remove main battery and CMOS battery and then connect adapter the board may turn on automatically, in this case you didn't press the power button but how did it turned on? This is because of the loss of CMOS information inside PCH and SIO as result of loss of RTCVCC voltage. 32.768khz frequency is lost. So once adapter connected, at once the SIO receives power, PWRBTN_OUT# signal to PCH will be sent even debounce logic of PWRSW# is not reflected inside SIO. But this happens only once you connect adapter after G3 power loss state (G3 = no adapter, no battery, no CMOS battery). As you said, PCH is always releasing S4 and S3 only after PWRBTN_OUT# input to PCH.
