Air Bubbles: Air is introduced into the flotation cell, creating bubbles. The hydrophobic particles attach to the air bubbles and rise to the surface, forming a froth layer. Separation and Collection: The froth, which contains the concentrated mineral particles, is skimmed off the surface of the flotation cell. The gangue material is left behind in the tailings. Steps in the Froth Flotation Process: Crushing and Grinding: The ore is crushed and ground into a fine powder to increase the surface area for the flotation process. Adding Reagents: Reagents such as collectors (e.g., xanthates) and frothers (e.g., pine oil) are added to the slurry.
