God, I remember when Danny and I ran some old FIFA and Rocket League competitions back when we were doing statecraft role-play as late teenagers. I think I was named as General Secretary on paper back when he did the CONIFA application, though that was under my deadname. Amazing to see how the whole thing has grown over the past few years. Sad to see him step down as ISF President back in March. He's done great stuff for Surrey, especially with the Surrey flag adoption process.

I think the reason rugby (and cricket ) are more dominant in the former British Empire is probably down to the English class system. When you look at the world they are just about the only countries where soccer is not the main sport, although Canada is the exception I suppose. British people spread football around the world but it was the elites who institutionalised their games* in the colonies. *In England/Scotland Rugby Union was the game of the middle classes, although not in Wales/Cornwall where it is more the people's game.

Hey, well done trying to inform more people about a beautiful game. But.. you've lost almost all Irish support by supposing that Gaelic Football descends from rugby. Maybe their roots are Co-mingled in medieval football, but you will not make any friends by telling the Irish that England created our national sport.

Suggesting Gaelic football has its origins in rugby is problematic. I’d suggest re looking at that in some more detail.

Darts could also be seen as sports entertainment in my view. Unlike pro wrestling it is a legitimate, competitive sport. But a lot of the appeal of professional Darts is from the crowd interaction, the pagantry, the walk on music, and the players characters and nicknames. You even have some players who elicit boos and jeers from the audience by doing what would be called in wrestling as "Heel" tactics. The Welsh player Gerwyn Pryce is a good example of this. The game itself is fun to watch on TV and to play. But in an arena of 10,000 people. Most will have trouble picking out the players on the stage, let alone the board. You don't really go to watch the darts. You go with friends and family to drink, have fun, dress up in fancy dress, maybe get yourself and your sign on TV. And just to have a great night out and be entertained. And as much as I love the darts, pro wrestlers are infinitely more athletic than darts players. If darts is a sport, than so is pro wrestling. But unlike most sports, with darts and pro wrestling. The fans are thier more to be entertained, and don't care as much as they would at say a soccer or hockey game. About who wins and who loses.

Great video! I would like to know more about how clubs were run. Not so much the teams affiliated to state institutions, but the union run clubs like Spartak and fan run clubs. How did they make the funds to pay the players. What was the player transfer system like, if any. And congratulations on Canada's world cup qualification. I like to see anglophone nations where association football isn't the number one sport have success internationally.

A nice introduction to Soviet football. 1 small gripe, you mention that Dynamo defeated a Bulgarian team, Ferencváros, they are actually from Budapest in Hungary.

I think China has the biggest potential. Come to think of it, China has a really weak history in team sports, there’s pretty much no major domestic scene of team sports until very recently with the Chinese Super League. That should allow Esports to gain an advantage in China.

Yugoslavia was a pretty good soccer nation! I honestly didn’t know much about the domestic scene outside of Dynamo Zagreb and Red Star Belgrade. It’s amazing that Red Star Belgrade were once European champions, that would surely give their supporters bragging rights over every other club in the area. One area I’m really interested in learning about is the battle between the United States Football Association and the American Soccer League during the early 20th century before they both collapsed.

Fascinating video! I was interested in the history of Dinamo Kyiv as I realized much of the best players on the Soviet national team during the 1980s were on that club. Special mention to Lev Yashin, a member of Dinamo Moscow, widely considered the best goalkeeper in history. The Russian Premier League certainly seems much more stable than the Soviet Top League ever was.

You forgot to mention the Ottawa Champions, They too are a professional baseball team.
