    OKAY, I think it's so funny, you start out saying you are not professional which I get but your tips are actually the best I've heard so far on youtube, they are the most accurate, after doing a comic on webtoon almost 6 years now. all these are pretty much true. Great video!

    How do you script for a comic? Ive studied a lot of screenwriting and novel writing, and whilst i haven't tried comic scripting yet, it feels like such a big task to me. especially when i have to take into consideration panels and pages. Id there any advice on scripting for a comic you have? Or a scripting format you use?

      I realize you have another video on writing for comics, oops. Sorry this is my first video from you.

    • @prism_world
      @prism_world 6 місяців тому

      @@cockroachteeth heya! It's no problem, I don't talk too much about the actual scripting process because I feel everyone does it differently :D I didn't break up my script into panels/pages/chapters when I wrote it because I do that as I create the comic, whereas some creators are more comfortable deciding that off the bat. Imo, it's too much stress to decide that sort of detail as you write, so I prefer not to think about it until later (there are a few points in the story I did decide would be episode cliffhangers, but that's about it) I would just say write what makes sense to you and what makes you comfortable! I basically wrote the dialogue and notes on what the character was doing at that moment, but I didn't spend way too much time describing every little thing in detail. It gives me much more freedom to tweak the story as I go, y'know? ;) Hope that helps somewhat! I hope your writing goes super smoothly :D

    I would actually really love someone to make a video specifically about HOW to collaborate on a webtoon, like from the get go. My partner and I have dual custody of our story, so we're making the comic together. But we just have so many questions! Like how do you keep consistency? Figure out having different art styles? How should the work be divvied up? etc, etc.

    i've heard in a couple of videos that people come in for the art and stay for the story when it comes to webcomics, wonder how true that is

    • @prism_world
      @prism_world Рік тому

      Personally, I feel that's true because the very first thing you see is the art (thumbnail, preview, ads, etc). If I see an art style I like, I'll click on it and then check out the summary, and if that seems interesting enough THEN I'll give it a shot. The majority of readers are doing the exact same, so having a good story is key to keeping them around, but having solid art definitely helps reel them in in the first place ^^

    Ok, when you said the thing about sci-fi… I have made SO many plots TRYING to get a story right and I think I’ve finally found it, but I SWEAR the change from first concepts to end result is… it went from spies training to be in the enemy’s guard to crazy lesbian mad scientists to new girl in town but it’s a whole new galaxy but she’s an alien but she’s a scientist there for research… I don’t know if I can even count them as part of the same process, the only string connecting them is some names…

    • @prism_world
      @prism_world Рік тому

      Haha, sometimes that happens though! I have a secondary story I came up with years ago that's evolved so much it's almost unrecognizable outside of some of the characters XD Honestly, sometimes that's for the best! Once you've got your base down though, definitely try playing around with the smaller plot points (have fun with it ^^)

  • @isaacthewebcomiccreator9750

    First of all, I agree with everything you said in this video, so Thank you for that. Secondly, I just recently came back home from my vacation, but I’m ready to get back to work on my own webcomic project. Thirdly, it would probably take too long to explain all the details of my own story, so I’ll just say something about my inspirations: My protagonist lives with his single mother on Earth at first, and that was partially inspired by Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet, Hogarth Hughes from The Iron Giant, and also technically Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy, all 3 of whom had a certain loving family relationship with their Moms. It’s maybe a little bit childish, but I love this trope in storytelling. Do you have any thoughts on this topic?

      @prism_world Рік тому

      Hey! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! :D As for the that particular trope, I’m a sucker for it too, so I have no other points to add 😂 That’s an excellent starting point and I really wish you well on your writing! Feel free to come back and share your comic when it’s ready 😎❤️

    I'm a book writer that wants to start writing comics. I think the thing that makes me more unsure of how to start is to write the script itself. Probably because I've never written a script, so, don't even know if i should just go for it or not kkk

    • @prism_world
      @prism_world Рік тому

      The good news is, if you're doing it for yourself, there really isn't a right or wrong way to write a script! You can write as much (or as little) information as you please :D If you're unsure though, I'd suggest checking out other writers' scripts. As for me, I basically type the character's name and what they're saying and doing in a specific panel. I'll write more in-depth notes if there's something very specific I have in mind, but otherwise it's relatively simple ^^ It's definitely different than book writing, but once you get into the swing of it it's pretty fun!

    Question, how do you balance a full time job with creating a comic? dont you feel feel super tired or unmotivated or lazy after 8 hours of work? At some point I was feeling something like that, although I'm no longer at that work. but what happens if you dont have enough energy after work? only do art on the weekends? or only work at a part time job? or find ways to use more willpower everyday? Prism work is great by the way , how could I send fanart if I made one :3

Find the time aside from work and don’t stress about it ^^ Plus your episodes can be any length you want, so the amount of time you put into it is 100% up to you ✨ Like I said, I love working on my comic, so I usually push through even when I’m tired, lol, but not everyone can do that, so no worries! Shoot, that's me. I love drawing my webcomic, I really do, but my growth is really slow and it discourages me sometimes... I'm trying to make many little breaks and have fun, but from time to time it hits me hard that I'm doing that for nothing, just a waste of time. That feeling grows whenever I'm frustrated because of my regular work. I work as a graphic designer and my clients can irritate me a lot. Usually my webcomic is a great cure for that frustration, but sometimes everything cumulates at once and makes me feel really bad. I don't want to stop drawing my webtoon, I love it too much to do that, but I'm tempted to stop posting and sharing it. Constant inner struggle is a common thing for all of the artists I guess. Terrible thing... I just found your account here - thanks for the video and good luck with your comic, I'm going to give it a try :)

    • @prism_world
      @prism_world Рік тому

      Omg, I can imagine balancing a graphic design job and doing a Webtoon on the side would be difficult! O-O It's a tough balance because making webcomics, like you said, is so fun and great for flexing your personal creativity without worrying about clients or anything like that- But then when it's not doing as well as you'd hoped it's REALLY hard to stay positive sometimes (especially when you're busy or overwhelmed) Haha, I think it happens to almost all of us, so I hope you can find the balance you're looking for and know that we all go through it 😭❤ And like I said, when I'm feeling that way, taking a break usually helps me to re-center and find joy in my work again, so don't be afraid to take some me-time and start posting again when you're feeling better! There's absolutely nothing wrong with that ^^ Thanks for sharing your personal experience and good luck on your Webtoon! ❤
