Our Secret Spot Pays Off with an Abundance of Marine Life 2024-07-27
A few of the South Florida Beach Divers headed to our secret spot, and we were not disappointed. After some rough waves for lobster mini season, the ocean. Lanes down and viz was great. Not many signs of lobsters here, so they likely got hit pretty good this year with people taking advantage of the two day event.

Exploring the Perry Street Rocks 2024-07-21
Переглядів 273День тому
The wind picked up a little bit today and gave some 2-3ft waves to deal with, so we decided to stay in a little closer and explore the Perry Street Rock pile. Spots around the rocks were covered with fish while other areas appeared more vacant. I did get a nice surprise from a manta ray fly over, and a cool little nurse shark popped out on me at one point as well. #scubadiving,#tropicdiverdoug,...
Diving the Erojacks for Lobsters 2024-07-14

Well, we had extremely high hopes for catching lobsters on this new 1 day mini season after the numbers we had seen yesterday. However, once we saw the number of boats that had been out there for a while, we knew it was going to be pretty picked over. I did manage to find two, but one was a short and left it go. Better luck next time. #scubadiving,#tropicdiverdoug,#beachdive,#aquanaut,#saltlife...

The South Florida Beach Divers went out to do a little reef cleanup for Hollywood, and while we were out there scout the reef for tomorrow’s special mini season day. There was no shortage of lobsters in this area. Those who go here tomorrow could be in for a real treat! Sadly a friend of mine told me there was a lot of pilfering of lobsters in Dania today. She thinks there was about 40 heads on...

We got a window of nice weather so the South Florida Beach Divers took full advantage of it. Water clarity was not as good as we thought we would have, but a good dive nonetheless. The school of Lookdown fish at the end topped it off. Not to mention a little mermaid that I haven’t dived with in a while is getting her fins win again. #scubadiving,#tropicdiverdoug,#beachdive,#aquanaut,#saltlife,#...
Checking on the Viz at the Erojacks After 20 Inches of Rain 2024-06-16
Переглядів 317Місяць тому
This past week we had 4 days of rain dumping about 20 inches. With all of the storm water runoff we were not expecting very good viz. Inshore was horrible. It looked like tea, but we were pleasantly surprised to have 20-25ft on the Erojacks. Another pleasant surprise was coming across 3 nurse sharks. Still struggling with what happened a couple of weeks ago, but trying to be positive. It seems ...

GoPro Failure on the Yellow Brick Rd Scuba Dive 2024-06-08

This has been one of the worst weeks of my life. I’m thankful for this group and this dive to help me through it. This truly was therapy for me. Unfortunately about 20 mins into the dive the GoPro shut off to an SD card failure. So there is only some footage following the reef south to the Yellow Brick Rd. The South Florida Beach Divers are happy to finally be able to get back in the water!! It was a difficult April for us, with easterly winds that kept the the waves churning and visibility a mess. But for Mother’s Day weekend we were treated to some westerly winds knocking down the waves and a strong southerly current which likely assisted in improving our visibility. There wasn’t much to see on the Yellow Brick Rd, so most of this video has the life on the reef nearby. We came...

The beach divers head out on a rare cloudy and rainy winter day. But the fish are already wet and we’ll join them. I'm pretty shocked at how cloudy the water is. It hasn't rained significantly in a month, and yet the water looks so cloudy. Does the water ever get clear there like the Caribbean or is it always this murky? It remains that the Bahamas have far better water quality than the SE coast of Florida. Florida will never clean up the pollution. In 1850 survey reports from the US army show the water in Fort L was crystal clear even in all the inland waterways. Florida is an eco disaster.

    Short questions here from Germany, Is the permanent surface buoy mandatory for dives in the US? And how much drag does it cause? I could imagine that you could possible need significant more air?

    • @OceansBlue333
      @OceansBlue333 4 місяці тому

      Here in Florida it’s mandatory to have the red ‘diver down’ flag, either with the diver or displayed from a dive boat. With larger groups, it’s best to have more than one flag as the group will likely separate based on experience. The flag creates a little bit of drag, but nothing significant where you need more air. Actually it a good indicator of how strong the current is
