This is the Delta I grew up with, when my dad worked for them. To me, a 727 or a DC-8 in 80s Delta livery is iconic. I always loved how Delta would paint widgets on the engine nacelles, too, especially the 4-engined jets like the DC-8 and the 747. The more recent mostly red widget looks awful, like something out of the Soviet Union or red China.

I remember an American paint job that was a matte metal that didn't shine, it was just gray. But i dont remember the name

Fun fact: Margaret Thatcher hated the world tails livery, and she said “We fly the British flag, not these things”.

This used to land in Gaborone Botswana in the late 1980s. The 747-400 replaced it. BA discontinued the route because of SSKB was a small airport

The Special Tails livery is my favorite. Beautiful and colorful, reminiscent of Braniff's Flying Colors scheme, which is another favorite livery series of mine.

En octubre de 1991 volé varias veces con los DC-10 de VIASA. De Madrid a Caracas, Caracas-Guayaquil-Quito, Quito-Bogotá- Caracas, Caracas-Madrid. Cuatro veces en total, uno todavía con matrícula holandesa: PH-DTL. Buen recuerdo guardo de estos cómplices de viaje. Hoy luce un DC-10 de VIASA en mi vitrina de aviones en miniatura, escala 1:400. Bonitos sus colores y bella estampa.

I was a Flight Engineer for World Feb 1989 - Dec 1995. Lots of good memories.. The Hadj, Malaysian passenger contract, etc.. Tough training but good training.. But I think the DC-10 was phased out long before 2010, as it was replaced by the MD-11

Liked the Dreyfuss livery design better. Would be nice to see the 'orange thunder bolt livery' from the 50's & early 60"s. It was the 'original' bare metal livery.
