HOW TO Upgrade the pipework on an Oase Biomaster filter
Переглядів 4,8 тис.4 роки тому
I couldn’t find any videos online about changing or upgrading the pipework on the Oase Biomaster range so I thought I’d give it a go and create a short video showing the steps. It’s relatively straight forward and the same techniques probably apply to other filters. Any questions, leave them below :)
HOW TO Create a lid for a rimless fish tank - Easy DIY
Переглядів 3,9 тис.4 роки тому
I needed to create a lid for a 60cm tank so thought I’d try a bit of creativity. My DIY skills and tools available are limited so these should be something anyone can have a go at if they fancy. Let me know how it worked for you or if you do something differently - I’d love to see your own versions of my lid if you fancy showing off your handiwork!

New Kid on the Block - Who is the Ordinary Aquarist?

Welcome to my first video. This is an introduction to my journey so far, some of the things I’ve learnt after 1 year in the tropical fishkeeping hobby and a bit about me. Soundtrack: Judson Crane - So Young At Heart
Nice video thanks
Bent coat hanger for the corners
Do you think you could cut a space for a hang on the back filter in the condensation tray one?
Hi David, definitely doable. I’ve done something similar on my main display tank as a temporary lid and had to cut around the filter inlets and outlets from my external. Cutting in reduces the strength of it but as long as it’s supported elsewhere you should be AOK. Could even cut in a feeding hole I’m going to be attempting another lid soon using polycarbonate glazing sheet and then siliconing the edge to seal it in.
I really like your, “chuck stuff on the floor” style of presentation, it helps to make the project feel do-able
Glad it was helpful. That’s my intention of my videos so in theory they should be accessible for anyone and not cost the earth 💪🏻
Bit you missed was adjusting your skimmer bias.
What do you mean?
@@ordinaryaquarist there is an adjustment on the intake where you set the balance or the skimmer depending on power of filter pulls the skimmer under the water or worse just pulls air from the top into the skimmer and you just have air in the filter. If you are lucky you won't have to adjust this but is most commonly the problem after adding a skimmer-intake.
@@StuEvans oh okay, I didn’t realise this. Thanks for sharing the tip. I did have an issue whether the skimmer was getting sucked down or caught up although I’ve replaced the glass pipe work with aluminium and i haven’t had an issue since fortunately.

This was really helpful thank you!
Beth Little I’m glad it was helpful - as I say, my DIY skills are not the best but it was a concept I thought of that should be relatively easy. I’ve been using the condensation tray for the last few months and it looks so much better now
They are brilliant breeders, most shops will accept the fry they wont give you anything for them but should you need homes as they can easily over populate. A real tip is never net any Loricariidae unless it is particularly large or strong or covered in very very sharp spur like odontodes like Pseudacanthicus use your hands and in those large species a pond basket and if their sharp use gloves as that genera can rip your hands apart. They can very easily get trapped in nets where it can damage fins and take off skin from the fish, I've had to cut fish out of nets before. It is better to use your hands by far, you get used to it and it can take a while, I find it best to pin them against the glass, holding via the head is easier for some or the body. Just don't hold them near the odontodes on the gill opercular, that will hurt.
Truthfully, you just said a whole load of words I didn’t know but after some googling I see what you’re saying. I’ve never thought of handling fish. I know it’s recommended for angels but always thought it would be bad for other fish (not sure why) - I see what you’re saying about them getting caught in nets - where possible I will either use a scoop and minimal water or pour them into the tank in the mixed water. Sometimes I’ll net but always wary about this
