Just putting random videos in since I can’t hold enough storage on my phone.
The nest is blown
The baby male betta from the short not too long ago is finally ready to breed. I know this because of the impressive bubble nest he’s been blowing the last few days, and I just had to share the progress he’s been making on it. Such a beautiful thing to see.

Late night fry update

Also rambling as usual. Most of the fish’s lights are off since it’s 2 in the morning but I still ended up having plenty to talk about.
Second guessing my fish’s gender

I noticed some bubbles at the top of peep’s tank, in addition to this her fins always seemed long for a female. I’m not sure if she’s actually a she anymore despite having bought her as a baby girl betta. I’m starting to think they miss identified her sex and she’s actually a he. If anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear other thoughts.
A long video that I can’t title again

Found out there is chloramine in my source water. The worst part is my liquid tests aren’t showing it. This explains why I’m having issues and since I don’t have an RO filter, I will likely have to begin cycling my own water in a large (empty) tank. That way my little guys and gals don’t have to deal with poor water quality every time I do a water change. Also looking at Peep and I can’t tell i...
Uni “swimming” and an update on the vet visit
Переглядів 38Місяць тому
The vet visit didn’t tell me as much as I had hoped for. Though it did teach me another hard lesson about how little I know. While Davis and Goober were both checked and given the green light, Nellie had been showing signs of dropsy. Turns out this wasn’t dropsy at all, and possibly could have been reversed; if I had considered other possibilities to what her problem was.
Longer video showing some updates
Переглядів 29Місяць тому
Getting close to the 6 gallon saltwater cube being ready to set up (talking about this near the end.) The rest of my little guys seem to be doing pretty well aside from goober and Davis. Both of them are still showing those horrible looking fins. I’ve decided to try some kanaplex in their tanks in addition to the dips. I hate using it because it can kill off the beneficial bacteria in your tank...
Don’t watch, mongo’s last video
Переглядів 16Місяць тому
I’m going to miss him so much. He was not only one of my favorites. He was my little buddy who came over to say hi whenever I was on my computer or doing my water changes. I know he’s a fish, but it took everything I had to hold it together for this video. Life isn’t going to feel the same for a while. This came out of nowhere.
Mongo isn’t doing well
Переглядів 75Місяць тому
This is also the reason I haven’t been posting much. Mongo looks like he’s dealing with dropsy, which was not what I thought it was at first. He was looking fine when I left for work but he was in the same spot when I came back. He also let me hold him in my hand which he’s never done before. I don’t know how much longer he has but I’m trying daily water changes with methylene blue to try to he...
Guess I moved her at the perfect time
Переглядів 48Місяць тому
I finally moved Uni out of the .5 gallon temporary habitat she was in (I was doing 3 large water changes each day since it was unfiltered) This habitat is around 3-4 gallons. She still can’t swim without being vertical, but she’s way more active now. I definitely don’t think she’s going to be able to learn how to swim horizontally like a normal fish, but she doesn’t seem unhealthy aside from th...
Relief but also bad news
Переглядів 35Місяць тому
The 6 large female guppies I bought at my LFS seemed to have either injuries or infections that have caused almost all of them to pass. I’m likely going to have to put them all in temporary homes and recycle my tank with a fishless ammonia cycle to clean out any bad bacteria that could be in the water now. Rookie mistake.
Update on the female tiger guppy
Переглядів 29Місяць тому
She’s looking quite a bit better. She seems to be building an appetite but is still pretty picky. Tomorrow I’ll give her some baby brine shrimp and see how she likes them. I’ve moved her from my 55 gallon where she seemed to be doing pretty well, into my 4 gallon so I can keep a closer eye on her.

Is it normal for the bubble nest so disappear since mine did
Reminds me of the guy screaming sex while running through a tunnel
Do beta fish do this usually? I consider getting one and it seems pretty scary to be honest. Would the fish be disappointed or sad if I don’t get him a beta fish lady? Well besides my dumb questions all the best
@@Adiryo it’s normal for males to do it, and I haven’t heard anything about needing to get them a female. A healthy male betta blows bubble nests from time to time, and it depends on the fish. As long as your betta has plenty of room to swim (i recommend at least 5 gallons), and he’s got everything he needs in the tank. Id just say the bubble nest means he’s healthy.
@@dustinchase2294 thank you for answering I appreciate it
@@Adiryo its no problem. Thanks for the comment. It made me smile because I wondered the same thing for my bettas. I didnt know if i needed a mate for my bettas at one point. I want to breed bettas though, so seeing such a big nest made me super excited.
Thats a cool tank dude😍
@@Art.Universe4 thanks. I’ll probably be moving stuff around in there once the baby betta is grown up. I need to get some good background plants growing in there. Some crypts back there now but I doubt they are doing so well.
Helo fren! I have a blue Betta fish but it started blowing a bubble nest but after it did he started acting different like keeps hiding doesn't eat that much anymore , got any idea why?
@@Nothigishere honestly I can’t tell you what’s wrong with them. The hiding and refusal to eat reminds me of the early onsets of dropsy or some other illness. Bettas don’t like to hide and are typically very curious fish. I’d recommend doing some water changes with spring water or dechlorinated tap water. Also check to see if there’s any discoloration on the scales or if they seem to have tearing on their fins. Aside from that all you can do is check your water parameters and hope they get better.
For whatever reason this video got stuck as private when I uploaded it. Whoops.
WOW ..... IT'S A NICE SET UP
Sadly my Betta fish dies a day ago so I ain't happy , but awesome aquascapes and yup your correct it's a male
I know how you feel. I lost my two favorite bettas. Nellie and Mongo. Betta's are hardy fish, but a lot of betta's suffer from inbreeding these days. I had issues with chloromines in my water (my water treatment wasnt strong enough), so it was ultimately my fault when I was trying to fix things with water changes. Its just important to learn what might have gone wrong, but also to not get discouraged when things do.
You're right its a 'he'.The ling fins, the bubble nest and the long venteal fins and slim body tella that its a male.
@@colourfulmlbb5889 thanks for letting me know. I figured that was the case, and hearing someone else say it definitely helps. I guess now I know why they always looked so upset when I called them Peep lol.
I think you're over correcting a bit too much. Slow down on the water changes. Watch some Father Fish, and stop the useless chemicals.
@@carlgrimes2512 it’s definitely possible. I had a vet come recently to check everything and they mentioned the fish weren’t showing any signs of infection. They tested my source water (this was water I had already treated) apparently there were still chloramines in them. So the water changes I had been doing to help were hurting more than helping. I try to avoid using chemicals as much as possible, I want to be using them when it looks like all else isn’t working. Though I definitely do have a habit of doing too much. I appreciate the feedback. I’m definitely slowing down on how much I’m doing at once.
What type of filtration are you using for the bucket/drum pond ?
@@CRUMPETSHERE they both have 2 sponge filters running currently. So in total the two buckets have 4 sponge filters. It’s strictly biological filtration.
I love your aquascapes and u have such beautiful tanks but I think my Betta fish is dying
@@Nothigishere I’m sorry to hear that. Seeing your betta not doing well is heartbreaking. As long as they are still eating there is a chance of recovery. Is there any chance you are able to look up their symptoms to get an idea of what’s wrong? Thank you for the kind words as well.
The bottle of prime was located at 6:27. I was dying of laughter when I saw it while rewatching a few parts of the video. At least now I know where it was.
Oh man, I just lost my male crowntail betta that was red white and blue to dropsy. he had it since I had gotten him, but showed signs of recovery through treatment. In the end he didn't make it but 2.5 weeks. But I loved and nurtured him for that two and a half weeks.
@@lonewolfark2270 I’m sorry to hear that. Mongo looked so bad the next morning I couldn’t put him through another day of it. I don’t know how it progressed to that point without me noticing, but he didn’t seem distressed until just that last night. He was my little buddy so I know how you feel. I came home yesterday to that empty tank, I have to let it sit empty for a couple weeks to let all the bacteria filter out, but I’m looking forward to being able to put someone in there again. I’ll probably move my female elephant ear in there so she has room to play.
I'm sorry to hear about Mongo
@@thekitchencoven8374 thanks, but yeah, it was rough coming home and seeing him this way. He was sitting in his betta tube in the exact same spot where I saw him before work. Hes been my favorite along side Davis so I feel like I let him down.
At least you gave them a safe place to have their babies
Yeah. It still makes me sad though. Guppies are so sweet, they deserve better than they get from all the inbreeding these days. Also welcome to the channel.
@@dustinchase2294 thanks! I'm new to guppies this month & just had my first batch of babies! They're so cute!
@@thekitchencoven8374 They really are. I've lost count of how many fry I have now, but they are growing fast. I cant wait until their colors come in.
Shes spicy! 😅
Oh & also no food for 9 days the food feeds the bacteria or parasites, a clean empty tank with filter.. cured in 8-9 days
I always use organic Celtic salt I’ve cured white spot & fin rott I do t like those toxic chems no good long term
Did she make it? I hope so.
The female is still alive. I’ve seen her attempting to eat some things too. I still don’t know that she will make it but there’s a chance still.
Keep going don’t quit u got it
Wow your betta and tank is definitely doing well he didn't hesitate to eat even after being stressed from moving back and forth
Bristle worms
Thanks. For whatever reason that never crossed my mind, and since I’m so new to salt water I didn’t even know what to look up lol.
Bristle worms and they can get big and kill some fish. Can become a problem.
Add indian almond leaves they contain Nutrients for betta
Polychaetes, or bristle worms, are a class of annelid worms. They are generally found in a marine environment. There are more than 10,000 known species in this class. They are ancient animals, dating back to 518 million years ago. They are first found in the early Cambrian fossil beds of Sirius Passet in Greenland. Remember, the vast majority of bristle worms you’re going to encounter are regular old polychaetes. They are NOT dangerous to humans. They won’t even bother your fish, corals, or crustaceans. You may get squeamish at the sight of a worm squirming around in your tank, but it’s not going to bother you (or think twice about your presence). These guys feed on broken down matter in your tank, and wont harm a thing. i have heard of some species killing zoas though!
Where did you get your glass top from
The glass top from the 4 gallon with the long fin koi, came with the tank itself so idk if you can buy that one. The other lids are the Aqueon clear lids, and my LFS sells them in multiple sizes.

Hey brother what is a salt dip, I’m new to raising bettas
It’s just a process used to help treat any sickness or infections the betta might have. It’s good for a lot of other fish as well if they are showing signs of being sick. You use half of your aquarium water, and another half of dechlorinated water, then add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt for every gallon of water you have in your dip. I have a refractometer that lets me measure the salt content so I usually put more in. If you’re just starting, you usually won’t have to dip your bettas as long as you change your water frequently.
@@dustinchase2294 alright thank you for the info! Ya I have 4 bettas a half moon king, bumblebee, a pure white delta and a female ear
@@drunkenbeer those half moon kings are beautiful, I feel so bad for them though. They get huge and yet they still sell them in those tiny cups. I have mine in a 20 gallon so he can grow out, but I’ve seen people try to put them in gallon bowls. When they flare up, they are so impressive.
@@dustinchase2294 ya they are really pretty I want to put him in my bigger tank, but it’s infested with snails and idk what kind they are but don’t want him to eat them and die. Also I have limited space the only place I can put my tanks are in my bathroom.
@@drunkenbeer for the bigger tank with the snail infestation. If you don’t have any other inverts, like shrimp. You should be able to dose the tank with some copper aid or other aquarium safe chemicals with copper. Just make sure once the infestation is done, that you complete your water changes and clean any dead snails to avoid an ammonia spike.
It's called a "Pipette".
That is a jumbo daphnia 😂 wow ...anw i have a betta too he s lying on pothos leaves all day long...
This makes me so happy! Ur amazing!
What a beautiful betta and such a lucky one aswell got a great owner and a great tank!! Wish I could make my own beautiful betta a lovely home but all the fish things are SO expensive here in australia XD
I can only imagine. I've heard how expensive the fish alone can be, due to people releasing their fish and plants into the wild. A lot of the plants I have I had to buy over time, but luckily most of them are propagating by now so I've been able to move them to other tanks too. I really do love these little guys, seeing their little faces pop up at you during feeding time melts my heart lol.
Very good! Do you use almond leaves in your betta fish tanks?
Yes. All my tanks have a combination of chola wood and almond leaves for those tannins. And thanks!
bro, thats not the correct way to do the salt dip. I usually dip my sick bettas into 1:1 ratio water and salt. and dip them for EXACT 2 minutes, and dont put any medication (except catappa extract). Then i put them back to the realatively smaller tank with shallow water level with catappa (extract), so they dont put so much effort to reach the surface to breathe, to prevent them die from exhaustion.
It seems to be working just fine for them. The medications I use explicitly state when you look them up; that they can be used in dips. The ratio is already mixed with my aquarium water and treated tap. The extract is also optional when you’re doing a dip as it’s better to have it in the aquarium to prevent any bacterial infections. A small dip of tannins won’t do much. They also aren’t sick enough to require a tank half filled. I do watch them and notice if they can handle the filled tank. I would rather them have an extra 2 gallon as to buffer the ph and any other swings since I work 12 hours a day. I appreciate the comment, though I don’t feel this is entirely effective for my bettas. 2 minutes for a dip doesn’t seem like enough unless id try to shock them with 1.01 gravity. Everything I’ve looked at states 5-30 minutes at 1.005. I think you’re assuming these fish are like the ones who can’t swim at all. These guys all show at least some activity and are all on the way to recovery now. I care about these guys too, while yes it’s true to lower the level so they don’t struggle, these guys all have places to perch on the surface with little water movement. I would highly recommend looking up methylene and salt dips on UA-cam though. They are used together often to help with ammonia poisoning, which is what I was treating.
@@dustinchase2294 Well, im happy your betta recovered eventualy. Since here in Indonesia, many breeders and hobbyist struggle to handle sick betta eventhough they suffered (relatively) non-lethal desease. Hope your bettas doing great, bro. Best regards from fellow Indonesian.
@@yosuasanamuri8936 thank you. And I understand the pain. Every time I go to my local pet store it breaks my heart. I’m already considering an upgrade for one of the newer bettas I picked up. She was originally on the bottom so she was in a smaller tank. Now she’s exploring it constantly, so I feel like she needs some place to actually thrive in.
I also have a koi female called sausage she is one of my favourite fish I’m giving her a tank upgrade soon
The koi females are just so precious. My koi’s are my favorites for sure. Something about their personalities just makes me laugh. Cutie is the one who will jump really high. Soon as I pull the lid of her tank off, there’s about a 50% chance she will jump into the air lol.
You are the only other person I have found on the internet that keeps bettas with African dwarf frog successfully
Interesting. I’m glad I got lucky then, they haven’t been bothered by any of the bettas who had been kept with them. I wonder if it’s due to the tight places they can crawl to in my tank. I often find them under my bucephalandra mat with their little heads poking out when I turn the light on.
I work at a chain pet store. Water changes for bettas are twice weekly per policy. 🥲
She wants a movie 🍿 🎥 lol 😂
I saw the one video when you got the fish I'm a new subscriber I want to know if the fish got better poor thing. And he looks so much happier now
There’s a few of them now and all of them seem to be getting better. The red double tail (I call him goober) is swimming around his tank and he relaxes at the top now. Hes got great balance and his appetite is there finally. Hes eating bloodworms. Davis is being a goof but he seems to be getting better every day as well. I picked up a giant betta who was also on his side, and he’s already swimming around the tank. I’ll have to give him away to someone though, I don’t have the tank space for another 20 gallon. Thanks for checking out the channel though and welcome!
I know I know poor babies just get yours from a reputable breeder you can get them while they're still very young
You're doing an awesome job taking care of these little guys
I appreciate the kind words. Seeing them get healthier every day has been extremely motivating as well.
Its fine
I’m new here:D and this is very interesting to me, I’ll be sure to watch more!!
Welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed.
Welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed.
Have you tried Indian almond leaves and dimming his lights? Bettas can be stressed with high light so he may need some time with less light and tannins
I do have Indian almond leaves in his tank. The light is a possibility, and I lowered the lights in his tank. He definitely does seem to be liking that more. Much more movement and he seems less stressed. He just hates being moved, and spends like 10 minutes calming down if he gets moved from the tank for a dip or something like that.
That Betta is such a lucky guy, I can see the amount of love you put in his care, loved it
I appreciate hearing that. I have been doing daily dips for him since I got him home, and his fins do seem to be growing back slowly. He’s a funny fish, and I want to see him healthy so I can put him in a better tank.
Put it in a cup of water and then put the cup in the freezer for 1 hour..... No need to thank me!
I’ve had to do that in the past, but I think he will be alright. He looked pretty bad when I got him home, but I think that was mostly from the ammonia in his water + the stress of having been moved a lot. I have used this method in the past to euthanize fish that weren’t going to make it though. I’ve ordered some clove oil that’ll be arriving today for a female guppy that recently starting showing bent spine issues. I might have to use it for her sadly, even though I’ve been trying to treat her as well.
He looks better
Yeah, he looked way better the second day, once he was put in clean water with tannins. He is easily stressed so I hate taking him out for his dips, but they seem to be doing a ton of good for him. It’s now been almost a week since he’s been home and I think he will be just fine. He’s a fast one when he wants to be.
Do an epsom salt and aquarium salt bath
I need to try epsom salt, especially since I have guppies in another tank which could use those dips every once in a while. Ill have to look into what brands are good to use.
Luckily the sick bettas are recovering so far. its been a lot of work the past couple weeks.
