10 Oldest Active Gyms In College Basketball
I'm back, Safari. After completing my final semester of college, I am back to producing content full-time to continue to grow the channel and share my passion for sports. In this long and overdue installment of Stadium Safari, we look at the history of the 10 oldest active gyms in college basketball.
College Basketball in the United States has much to offer besides the game itself. The traditions of historic programs, the battles between crosstown/in-state rival schools that always become instant classics, and the thrill of March Madness where a school from Nowhere, USA takes down a blue blood program. It is fair to say that the college game is a national treasure in more ways than one. For most programs, the tradition aspect holds true in their home gyms and the atmosphere created by rowdy student sections across the country. What if I told you that a college gym never has a death date? If you are new to the channel, make sure to like, comment, subscribe, share, and hit the notification bell to be on the lookout for future videos and will appreciate it if you watch to the end.

Very nice video, thank you for making it. I've often wondered about the history of stadiums around the country. One small correction, Coach Bryant played end on both offense and defense. In his day, all the players stayed on the field unless they were injured and couldn't continue. He would have played the role of tight end on offense mostly blocking but he did get a chance to go out for a pass ever so often.

Appreciate the view from the good ol Shoals! With O'Neil bridge and the historic Old Railroad bridge across the Tennessee river. But you right! Football is king in this state! History lesson for ya. Florence hosted the Division II national championship game for 28 seasons. 1986-2014. UNA became the very first NCAA scholarship football universities to win 3 national titles in a row ('93, '94, '95) also the only school from D2 to ever get invited to the White House ('93 Bill Clinton) they had one loss in 3 seasons, only losing to eventual D I-AA champs(FCS today) Youngstown St in 1992. Now UNA is an FCS program, and had the second highest winning percentage only behind Alabama. From the state of Alabama. Harlon Hill, a native of this area is the D II name for their Heisman Trophy. #RollTide #RoarLions

@@billycagle2564 Yeah I was thinking about the years I went to the games and instead of making reference to that, I failed to do so lol. Thanks for pointing that out though. My brother had attended the 1989 game, which had Miss Coll beating Jacksonville St 3-0 on a cold Saturday with about an inch of snow on the ground. But I wanted to go to that game really bad, but didn't get to. So I did go from 1990 - 1995. Then went back in 1999 - 2005 '90 - NDSU beat IUP '91 - Pitt St (KS) beat JSU '92 - JSU beat Pitt St '93 - UNA beat IUP '94 - UNA beat TAMK '95 - UNA beat Pitt St '99 - NWMS beat CarNew '00 - DSU beat Blmsbg (Pa) '01 - NDak beat GVSU '02 - GVSU beat ValSt '03 - GVSU beat NDakota '04 - ValSt beat Pitt St '05 - GVSU beat NWMS The 2 greatest D2 title games imo were the '93 and '99 title games. UNA's first title over Indiana University (Pa). They had to insert end zone bleachers because the crowd was around 15,000. And Braly Stadium at the time only held like 10,000 at the most. Those 3 years in a row is still the 3 largest crowds that stadium has ever had. The 1999 game between Northwest Missouri St and Carson Newman had commentary from Bill Curry, which was a 4OT thriller that had a couple of plays that made sportcenters top 10. Also the 1995 game when UNA beat Pitt St 27-7. That game was called by ESPN Legends Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried. I remember David Pollack calling one of the games that I didn't attend I don't think, also Trevor Mattich, Rod Gilmore, and a few others called some games. Even the great Holly Rowe walked the sidelines once as a sideline reporter. That game meant alot to this area, the University of North Alabama, and it was great for us kids that went to school here. Which I was just entering Coffee High School in 1994. I used to tell Steve Modis (Owner of the Big Deli outside the north end of the stadium) That UNA wouldn't remain a D2 school. I didn't think it would actually happen. Now it's looking like they and a few others are doing everything they can to get FBS status. And I believe they will! At least I hope so. I think they will be the last school in the state to do so. It is the oldest public university in the state, and I believe is just behind Alabama and Auburn in all time winning percentage. I could be wrong though. The state of Alabama would then have Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Troy, USA, UNA, and Jax St all as FBS teams. Though I do think Alabama and Auburn will become something different when the B1G/SEC/ACC/BigXVIII all become a totally different league. Then I believe the FBS/FCS will have their own playoff. That's just my opinion, but it seems like the best route for it to go imo. What you think?

Veeck is pronounce Vek. The stadium opened un 1991 with a capacity of 44,000. And the Sox wasn't always 2nd fiddle to the Cubs. They out drew the Cubs from 1950 to 1992. Also thr 2005 title had everybody in the Chicago area excited. Almost 4 million people were at the celebration in downtown Chicago. Only half of the Chicago area baseball fans like the Cubs I've been a fan of the Sox since 1972.

I've been an OAKLAND A's fan since I was in Little League in the '70s my first ever major league game was the Boston Redsox vs the Oakland Athletics, Living Near Sacramento it was a short drive to the Alameda County Coliseum. Couldn't they refurbish the ballpark instead of trying to build at the Port Of Oakland? I am sure that remodeling the stadium would cost less than building and New Ballpark would. I hate to think of the A's moving to LAS VAGAS I am 62 years old now and I get the MLBTV package just to watch the A's games, I now live near Seattle and I am NOT going to become a Seattle Mariners Fan.
