This song is about isolation and a desire to find self-identity in a world where the female singer, the woman singing, feels that the only people she can trust are her family. It's kind of like Mulan's 'Reflection' song, and is probably loosely inspired by the same song actually. This woman probably grew up watching Mulan and identified with the character on some level, and probably pretty strongly for her to have made what honestly looks like very nearly a tribute song to the song 'Reflection' from the REAL Mulan movie. The first Mulan animated movie is the only real one, the others are all image libel against the character. Edited for omission of a key word.

I might be someone who relates to Ruby so much (on the level where you begin to say, "oh, I kin this character!") but Weiss is my absolute favorite. Her songs are also so depressing, but damn are they awesome..

I find it very entertaining that people say these are about abuse but don't have a single thing they can point out as abuse, it's just "he was a meany head and she's lonely!" She's just a rebellious child who grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth and needs to let out steam, not an extremely abused character that needs to be pitied every second of the day. I like how in the first two parts, we hear mostly piano and other musical sounds and styles that bring to mind propriety, high class etc, with only a hint of musical styles that were at some point in their early days classified as "improper" in some way. Like their there, but are either being repressed or suppressed, possibly both. Then in the final part, rock bursts out of nowhere and quite literally says (though worded slightly differently): "This is who I am and who I've always been, and there's nothing you can do about it anymore!" The way the musical styling choices even mirror (pun not intended) Wiess's development is so cool, and why Jeff Williams is so talented.
