Is your Leer still holding up?

I was thinking about a Leer 180. The prices are kind of nuts. Another one I'm seriously interested in is the "Moonlander". They're pricey, but absolutely high speed. Kind of like a really big shell, or really small camper.

I just talked to a guy and bought a new cap today. The guy I talked to not only sells them but has owned this company doing this since the cap game got competitive. He said that for the money, ARE is the better buy. But he also said that quality is a little better for leer but not for the price difference. He also said that what you are using it for also determines which is the better buy.

how did you secure the board acting as the base so that it doesn't wobble when weight moves around on top of it?

Is it waterproof

I bought 8085 and 8084 and I was able to wear them right out of the box. Little to no break in. They fell good on my feet.

Are with the back door

I wouldn’t call what you did a “stress test”, I’d call it knife misuse and abuse.

Really hard to pay $2k+ for a topper that has poor quality in its build!

How are these holding up 5 years later ?

I've only owned A.R.E. so far (three, purchased in 2014, 2019, 2023) and both they and LEER seem to have great designs/features. But both the '19 and '23 have had CRAPPY workmanship, mostly with window installs. You can expect the window frames to be overtightened/crushed (as shown here) causing them to leak. If you're buying used and care about leaks, be prepared to remove windows and fix it yourself, since the warrantees do not transfer. That's what I'm researching for my '23 shell.

A.R.E all day long.

Had the Leer 100R total garbage. Chips/cracks in the edges, paint bubble about the size of 50cent piece, the rear tailgate molding split in half and the drivers side window leaked heavily. Sent it back to get repainted and it looked like some random bum off the street painted it. I could plainly see where the bubble was as it looked as though they popped it and painted over it. There was overspray all over the glass and weather strip. I couldn’t get the leak to stop so I pulled the window out of the shell, there was a 6” long half circle cut in the window opening. It should have been flat along the proper edge for the window. Someone or something (a machine) made an error. Then someone bolted the window in without a second thought I guess. Will never buy another Leer.

Do you have any comments on the 100XR cab high shell versus the 180 shell ? The 100XR probably looks better and the much larger glass on the 180 rear door could be a problem and looks sort of out of proportion with the trucks.

How do you customize the windows? I can’t do it on any website or do you have to into a shop?

New sub and awesome video here. I'm spec'ing out my overlanding/do everything '16 Silverado and agree. Windoors for the win (for multiple reasons)! I have a transferflow 50 gallon aux tank in the bed to feed my 6.2 v8 and i needed to reach the filler neck on and needed windoors to do that. I thought about the Softopper but ultimately seemed like throwing good money after bad. Also, the windoors are just way more convenient than you'd think they are. Cool video and keep up the good work.

This was more horrifying and left me feeling far more anxious than any horror movie/novel/entertainment ever could. Just thinking about what would happen if one of those locks failed. Thanks for risking your phalanges in the name of science!
