Disabled firefighter about to become homeless needs help
I came down with fibromyalgia 9 years ago and rapidly lost a promising 25 year career in the motorcycle industry that was just getting its stride and hitting the big time. I found a new purpose and way of feeling proud to be a member of the human race by joining volunteer fire and EMS. I moved back to NY, something I swore I'd never do, to live again with my childhood sweetheart, despite high unemployment, taxes and housing costs.
Since then, I was lied to and manipulated by two EMS agencies, nearly lost my wife, lost most of the family
she came with, and lived a life of squalor due to the fact that she could not find a job in this job market that would pay more than her unemployment insurance and still provide decent insurance for her children.
We struggled along for several years, me selling everything I loved that was of any monetary value at all as time passed until there was nothing left to sell.
Finally, a driver with no license and a suspended driving privilege struck my car at 70 mph in a 40 mph zone,
totaling it instantly. Geico had refused to pay my claim, so I spent twice the money we had scrabbled together to replace the wrecked car that we had saved to use to move somewhere with a good school district for Rachel's children and where Rachel would be able to find a decent job, and the lies from my past EMS agencies would not follow me.
My wife had to go live with friends as a veritable child in the homes of "friends" to have a place to live, but they would not allow me to live there. I moved into a dingy rooming house full of crime and with no cooking facilities, and proceeded to destroy my ill body tearing apart my wrecked car to try and sell off the good parts, which has been singularly unsuccessful so far.
My wife's "friends" said they cannot afford her and have put her and her 12 year old son, on the street. We ended up with a pair of non-running cars, and I've gotten one running so far, but cannot afford to fully fix it, or to title and register it. The other still does not even run. My wife has ended up in a homeless shelter; I am not eligible for that because my disability is too much at $715 a month, some $250 a month short of my basic bills, forget about my wife and stepson's. Her son has been taken in by her abusive sister for the time being.
I am 4 weeks behind on my own rent and am about to be evicted myself. Despite a very open and shut case, Geico refuses to settle on a $5000 claim, and small claims court is not until November.
I have "friends" who owe me hundreds of dollars and refuse to pay. I have no idea what to do. I've been to every charity, national, state and local I can find or think of, and the referrals are all either dead ends or refer me to Social Services, who say they cannot help me because my $715 a month in SSDI income is too high for them to help me at all, even with a homeless shelter.
I am at a total loss for ideas any more. Like I said, though, I won't beg. I'm not asking for a handout. I'm asking you to search your hearts and decide for yourself if someone whose first priority is always helping others, and has firefighter's turnout gear and an EMS "jump bag" in his car and never passes an emergency without helping has the redeeming qualities as a human being to be helped himself. I fought a lifetime of PTSD as a dual incest survivor and overcame the hurt, terror, and anger that came from a childhood of that starting before 18 months of age, and taught myself to become a good father and human being basically on my own.
Our dream is to have an affordable home of our own where my wife can get a good job and I can continue to be a firefighter and volunteer in EMS, in a decent school district somewhere in NY state. If you think that I am worth helping, and have anything to spare in this horrible economy, and the spirit moves you, you would have
my eternal gratitude for whatever help you can provide. Some living space for my family if you are local, a pro bono attorney if you are local, even $5 would be a huge help. Just $400 pays me up close enough on the rent that I could stay at the rooming house for now; four times that might find a place for my whole family.
Let your own soul and conscience and circumstances be your guide. I will happily pay it back, pay it forward, work more community service for free, whatever you think is fair exchange for any help. If you want to, great. If not, I love you all anyway. My email address is espresso_doppio@ymail.com, and until the overdue bill gets it shut off, my phone number is (845) 389-3714. I just need some help until my wife and I can afford and find a home, move her son in with us, and find her a decent job and get us a reliable car.
Yours always, in love and compassion,
-Adam

Stripped of all worthwhile parts, the shell of the 325iX was crushed to go to the recyclers. Sorry I missed the roof getting crushed and the jaws crushing the shock and strut towers together, that was cool to watch.

Had a very successful drill this morning. We moved 72,500 gallons of water over a 2 mile distance in about 2 hours. Cottekill 2312 on attack and 2311 supplying the scene. High Falls 3011 filling tankers. The workhorses moving the water... High Falls 3012, Stone Ridge 5810, Kripplebush 3420 and Accord 1512. Oh and we can't forget the gang at the Crossroads Deli for making lunch. Great job by eve...

Mudding a 325iX in a cornfield
Переглядів 1,1 тис.13 років тому
Take one homologation rally car. Add one heavily rained-on muddy cornfield. And let the fun begin. Maybe mext time I'll try it without street tires, but it sure threw up some serious mud getting around in power slides. Tons of fun, but what a mess it made (check out www.flickr.com/photos/79358868@N00/sets/72157626211232403/ for more details)!

    What’s the reason for doing this, wouldn’t it just be easier and more effective to use the trucks that are filling the pools (if in a real scenario) to fight the fire rather than double handling the water

    • @PauwerFurry
      @PauwerFurry 3 роки тому

      This type of truck is called a Tanker (at least where I live, other places call them Tenders). Tankers don’t always have pumps on them, which you need to fight fire. This technique is used in areas where there is little to no hydrant coverage, or in a scenario where the water supply, such as a lake or river, is too far from the incident to pump water directly. We do this so that when the tankers are empty, they can go right back to the water supply and fill up again. Multiple tankers rotate between the dump site and the fill site. As long as the tankers never stop rotating, the engines will always have water to pump without any interruptions. If the engines took water straight from the tanker, having to couple and uncouple the two apparatuses, and the span of time where the pump wouldn’t be pumping water would waste precious seconds. Not to mention, in the span of time where the pump isn’t pumping any water, the firefighters on the nozzle wouldn’t have water. If they don’t have water, they have nothing to defend themselves with. It’s a very intricate process, but it puts water on the fire and gets the job done.

    why do they fill a pool?

    • @ArmEConDoesMinecraft
      @ArmEConDoesMinecraft 7 років тому

      Sep Degeus its not really a pool. Its called a dump tank. Tankers (units that carry lots of water, and their main purpose is carrying water) bring water, dump them into the dump tanks, and other fire engines (ones for pumping water to hoses and stuff) can use suction hoses to suck the water out of the tanks. Rural areas use this tactic to establish a good water supply when there are no hydrants nearby and you have multiple tankers coming from and going to the fill site to the dump area. Hope this helps.

      Armyconrad ow okay, thx but why they dont Just film from tanker to tanker?

    • @ArmEConDoesMinecraft
      @ArmEConDoesMinecraft 7 років тому

      Sep Degeus if you take directly from the tanker, the tanker will run empty. It will then have to go to the fill site, which may be minutes away. In that time, the pumpers can run out of water. If you have these portable water tanks, the tankers can dump the water into there, and the pumpers can use suction hoses to draft water from these tanks, while the tanker travels to the fill site to refill. So these dump tanks are basically adding "a second tanker" to the response. By this I mean the units have water on site in a large tank like a tanker vehicle would have, but instead of taking directly from the tanker vehicle and preventing it from going to refill, they take it from the portable tanks and the tanker can go refill and the tanker can come back and wait and slowly refill the portable tanks as needed. It may not make the most sense but it allows us to get more water to the scene and in a quicker manner.

    I don,t understand the use of a pool! In Europe we just leave one tanker as buffer that other tankers refill al the time! This way you don,t spill water and in the mean time we build up a big hose waterline with pump from a openwater source a mile away to fire adress. Check out some Dutch firefightermovies.

      +clarence trotter The fire engine on scene drafts water out of these pools and pumps it to the hoses fighting the fire...Tankers haul water from a water source (lake/pond/hydrant) to where they are fighting the fire.

    I've been involved with this type of drill many times myself. Here's a suggestion: Unless completely empty, we always drop the water in the tank we're NOT drafting from. This helps eliminate "white water" in the draft tank and loosing prime from drawing air into the pump.

    Good drill. When there aren't any hydrants around you have to do something to get lots of water to the fire. Waste of water.... not really. The training is necessary or you might as well not have an FD because the only thing you'll save is the slabs. Love the dump gates or whatever you call them now. They were just coming into use when I was a fire fighter many years ago, and they were on the back of the tankers. How times have changed, and for the better.

    This is definately a great drill for any department to do, especially with a rural water supply. Just one small suggestion that will help a lot if I may. When the stream of water coming from your side discharges changes from "white water" to slow running clear like at 1:22 and 3:40, get the truck out of there. The extra 40 gallons that you get on a slow pour isn't going to matter when you have a nozzle flowing over 250 g.p.m. Great drill though. Alot of Depts overlook this.

      koolaidkidz67 water shuttle operations are used in areas where they don't have hydrants at all. They can also be used as a secondary water supply for a department that has hydrants in the area so they don't drain the water supply.

    imagine a fire that called for 5 portable ponds and 30 tankers. we had to supply 2 towers going full blast and a few monitors (dont know how many) for 12 hours straight. we had 2 4 inch hoses running between the water supply engine and the attack engine. we were barely keeping the ponds filled for 12 hours straight.
