    Quick question. I have the same reel however, my side plate will not release to get spool out. It’s the exact reel here and I’m pulling the gold pin for release but side plate will not come off. I haven’t pried it anything because I don’t want to break it.Any suggestions?

      When you pull the gold pin twist the side plat up as shown in the video @ 2:57. They can get a little sticky if it's been a while. Good Luck.

    While I agree with minutiessabotage' premise, I disagree slightly with the end result, but not sure if I am capable of properly describing it. Let's say you set your drag on each reel so that your lure falls slowly enough that it stops when it hits the water. If you set each reel so this occurs at the same speed on both types of reels, then overcoming that extra friction you speak of has been neutralized (equalized?). Now the line is coming off each reel at the same speed during the cast. The difference being one is synchronized, one isn't. I sure hope that makes sense.

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 4 дні тому

      So, you got me thinking and I had to watch the video again so I can try to understand. You are talking more about backlash (I think) which I would agree and there may not be a difference worth talking about. a while back another viewer brought up the fact that and I quote "Hooked to a heavy fish that takes line, the syncro levelwind recieves little pressure but the non syncro recieves a severe load when the line is at an angle. This could cause levelwind failure sooner or later". This was my reply "Never really thought about it but you make a valid point. I just stumbled across the DIAWA TWS (T - Wing System) which combats this problem but does not completely solve the problem. It just reduces the friction creating less of an angle. This would lead me to believe that the manufactures know this is a problem. Very good concept". Thanks for watching.

    • @mark-eq4ng
      @mark-eq4ng 3 дні тому

      @@abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 So, as a correction, I did say "...set your drag on each reel ....", when I should have used the word "brake (or spool tension?)" instead of drag. So yes, it does control backlash, but in doing so it controls the casting speed, so regardless of tension both reels would cast the same distance. The other thing is that it is only during the cast that the non-syn reel gets the fishing line off-set. As soon as you engage it and start cranking, that eyelet whatcha-ma-callit catches up and re-syncs within a few cranks. Are those few cranks enough to shorten the life of it? I don't fish enough to answer that with any authority. I guess it could if you mostly set the hook on really big fish. Sorry to say - that ain't me.

    Love servicing my faithful C-3's and C-4. Always enjoy and learn from videos, including yours. However? Do all these Ambassadors have the little black plastic alignment washer on the shaft under the tensioner knob and if not when do they not? Is there a groove on the shaft for that washer to snap into. Are some reels designed differently? Also I didn't see the cog dawg (copper/metal) that is on a post and clips into the big tooth gear below the main gear. Did some models not have that?

    Black Edition has an aluminium cage, which is by far the biggest difference compared to other Rockets which all have chromed brass. Brass is more rigid, but heavier. Also the brake plate, handle, drag star, lineguide are aluminium, and a plastic nut retainer. Most of these parts are also brass on the others. Not 100% sure but it looks like the brake plate on the regular CS Rocket is also aluminium, while it is brass on the Chrome Rocket. I have the 5501 CS Pro Rocket which also has chromed brass cage + brake plate, but I think it was never available in the US market, sadly. The dual spool tension knobs, to anyone who's wondering, is for centering the spool, which is good for long casts. On Ambassadeurs with only the one knob on the handle side, if for some reason the spool is not centered, you can add or remove the thin copper shims inside the knob. / Chris from Sweden

    Oh the other Truly genius designs by the Swedish, are the 2 Speeds, and when adjusted properly, they function like the Automatic Transmission of a vehicle, Very sadly, I lost my owner's manual/instructions, and proper adjustment of the "Wheel" (on top of the "star" ), is crucial for perfect automatic-shifting of the gears!! I'm a professional outdoor writer (fishing, archery hunting, muzzleloading, handgun defense, handloading and Target shooting), and a previous president of ABU Garcia, Mr. Grant gave me all reels to test, and report to him. The two 2-speeds are, ambassadeur 5500-C3, 2 Speed, Ultracast & 6500-C3 2 Speed. I would happily pay for a Copy of the instructions manual, plus I'll formally thank whoever it is, that would help me in an article!! Also "Syncro-Drag" of Garcia, is another very interesting design, but the instructions for using that one, are very Simple.

    As usual you've done a superb job in this video!!! But I have a question Please, "Is there any way to put 6 Block-Spools in one the older Swedish Abu Garcia models"?!! Thank you very much!! By the way, I've been using the Garcia Baitcasting (made in Sweden), since mid 60s, and haven't one go bad yet!! And since the mid 70s, I've used them on "Hard-fighting" large Pacific Salmon and Steelhead, and 7000C3, filled with Power Pro braid, for White Sturgeon up to 10 ft. long, and we have a bunch of those, within casting distance of our living room, Sliding-door !! I've caught dozens of large King Salmon, in front of our home, as large as 42Lbs, on my little 2500C, and Coho Salmon & Steelhead on my 1500C!! But I must admit that, the 1500C, is too narrow for men's thumbs. I have about 200, Swedish ABU Garcia reels, in my collection, plus other Brands (Very Old, U.S. made, Zebco, Shakespeare, Wright and McGill aka Eagle Claw, Zebco Cardinal Spinning reels (made by Abu Garcia of Sweden). Of all Baitcasting Reels in my collection or any I've ever seen in my life, "The Most impressive Baitcasting of all time, is an ABU Garcia, that was Strictly made for Japan's market in very limited numbers, in the early 2000s?, and when most Garcia could be bought under $200.00 USD, I very happily paid a guy on ebay, $950.00 for a new one!! It's a true Masterpiece, you see the Swedish were trying to make Dang sure, that no fancy Shimano, would have a Chance in heck to compete with it😃

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 Рік тому

      I can add this information but cannot add comments in the video on the performance. All of the reels will cast very similar. The black edition, with two more bearings is hardly noticeable if any at all in my opinion. The major difference is the weight. The black edition is much lighter. The standard is middle of the road, white wise, and the crime is heavier. so it all comes down to what you’d like to feel in your hand. I personally like a heavier Reel so I can go with the Chrome and the Chrome Reel will also be a little more rigid if you’re fighting big fish on a regular basis hope this helps thanks for your comment.

    Just watched your video on tear down clean oil and repair any thing that needs it. I have several reels that have sat up 15 years or more due to my health. I’m a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran who loved to fish. Now those days are over as I am now wheelchair bound and would like to get them all cleaned, oiled and repaired as needed so I can sell them. Do you do this as a job/hobby to earn some extra cash? Please let me know, I am in Central Louisiana.

      I did work on reels as a hobby for several years but no longer do it. I would suggest finding a local service center to do the work. Most tackle shops should be able to recommend someone.

      I forgot to mention there’s a guy on UA-cam. His channel is called second chance tackle. You may be able to send everything to him for service. Check him out. He knows what he’s doing.

    Great tutorial! I own a lot of Ambassadeurs most sit in my display but some I still fish and fish them hard! Glad that you pointed out that you use Cals Drag Grease for anything that needs grease. Been using Cals Grease since the late 90's and still use it to this day. I haven't done a reel service in awhile your video helped refresh my memory. Abu for life...thanks for posting!
