Gliders at the Long Mynd
Recorded on the 31st of May 2024
Sheet Music:
Score Exchange: www.scoreexchange.com/scores/gliders-at-the-long-mynd-626913.html
MuseScore:
Gliders at the Long Mynd is a composition that has mainly been inspired by piano works by Maurice Ravel and Franz Liszt (‘Pavane pour une infante défunte’ and ‘Chasse-neige’ respectively). This is through the piano techniques used as well as melodies and harmonies. The piece could be considered to be in either a sonata or ternary form, although the middle section is focused on developing the melodic material from the first section. Throughout the piece, the melodic lines are intended to depict a glider’s path, calmly at first and then becoming more frantic.
Whilst growing up, I was particularly interested in flying model aircraft (inspired by my father) and the Long Mynd was the place in which we launched our models, to absolutely no success. This piece came about when sorting out aircraft kits and fixing the planes to hopefully fly again.

Darn good choppin'!
Thanks!
Nicely done. A piece of joy for a grey day.
Thank you.
Wow! Great playing:)
Thank you very much!
Needs syrup.
Outstanding! Thank you! My favorite piano piece!
@@pilotusa Thank you for your comment!
Notice he plays this from memory!
GENIO
Amazing ❤ ! Thanks for sharing 👏👍🎼
Thank you!
Very good technique
Thanks!
Absolutely fantastic 😊
This sounds great. Not a popular rag to play. Jo Ann Castle played it on one of her albums.
Lovely playing. Now, can you play it backwards Robert Owen?😊
Thanks! I will have to try that one day...
you can be a good composer or pianist is this your song or what? good variations
Sounds great!
Thank you!
The tempo is too fast
@@johanhedder5633 Absolutely, I've learnt my lesson and play it a lot slower now.
what microphone is that?? the tone is amazing. And ofc good playing aswell :D
Thank you! The microphone is a Logitech Blue Yeti. It's an alright microphone, however, I would recommend a Zoom H1n microphone as these are more portable and better sounding! Hope this helps!
@@arobertowen Thanks. Yeah I usually use Aston starlights, with 2 room mics, but it’s a pain to setup, so having a small setup is gonna help a lot.
Verr niiice.
Thank you!
Slow down and smell the Pine Apple.
Definitely! I have since slowed down from this recording!
Sounds like a player piano, but SJ is always wonderful.
Wonderful. Thanks Scott ❤❤❤
Heeeeeeeey Robert, a beautiful composition with fascinating background notes, I can see the planes gliding in the air with your gentle streams of notes and the hopeful sense of fixing them to rise in the air again 🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🙂🙂🙂🤗🤗
use the damn pedal...
This arrangement! Is this how it is in the book!? It feels like you've arranged it yourself but it's wonderful! So Gospel!
Yes, this is how it is in the book. The arrangement is by Barrie Carson Turner - check the link in the description for more information!
I love this Rag!!!!
Great!
Yah mon I just put out a EP on my channel some months ago was thinking we could maybe collab on something. Lmk what you think.
Damn man you slayed this. Amazing job.

So lovely!!!! Beautiful arrangement. Would you like to do a collaboration with me? I am a soprano singer from Portugal, now living in England, former X Factor contestant and Holland's Got Talent semi-finalist, who arranges most of her songs. I am always on the lookout for new arrangements.
Heeeeeeeey Robert, wow, this is awesome and other-worldly beautiful!!! What a fascinating assignment to do!!! 🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🙂🙂🙂🤗🤗
Thank you very much!
Why does this sound so mechanical? Is Robert Owen a classical pianist or a ragtime pianist? Seriously, if you like this song, go listen to Tom Brier play it. If you think I'm just blowing smoke, Tom Brier received the lifetime achievement award from the Scott Joplin Ragtime association in 2023. The guy's amazing and he doesn't sound robotic at all.
Mesmerizing ✨
Heeeeeeeey Robert, the waterfall is fresh, sparkling and beautiful and did I hear you play the highest note on the keyboard there too?? Those trickles of notes wonderfully executed 🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🙂🙂🙂🤗🤗
Thank you! Not quite the highest note (highest G#!)
beautiful!!
Thank you!
Nice job! Needs a little cleaning up here and there but overall really nice. You totally nailed a couple parts I never was able to get right!!
Thanks! I definitely need to revisit this piece and get a better recording. I hope your practise of this piece goes well!
Your playing made me truly feel something. I think that’s the highest compliment you can give a musician
I think you're spot on, thanks!
Great music!
So much emotion into this piece, and body movement. It feels like this guy is Liszt himself.
Dang nice playing man
Thank you!
great job!!
Thank you!
The effect works really well
Cheers!
i love your base and voicing ❤ you can always improve your technique with more practise, but this already is amazing and really musical:) i hope to hear more of your playing
Thanks! I definitely should start practising this piece again!
Very nice! We must catch up soon.
Thanks, yes we must!
Suddenly everything went black n white and I am walking about at doublespeed.... My waistband is migrating up towards my nips and I am talking very fast - send help !!!!
Heeeeeeeey Robert, fascinating composing notes, and the Debussyesque sweetness is beautiful!!! 🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🎹🎵🙂🙂🙂🤗🤗
Thank you!
Beautiful ❤ such a dynamic piece 😁 I'd love to see how you produced these. You got such a full piano sound here
Cheers! Essentially there's a single MIDI piano performance and certain notes/phrases have been extracted into 8 different track lanes routed into 8 virtual speakers.
Bravo!
Thank you!
Wow, those are some beautiful chord voicings! the way you play kind of reminds me of dream by john cage
Cheers! Just listening to Cage's Dream now - it's interesting to consider the diversity of his compositions especially with this one and Water Walk...
Beautiful, Robert! I feel Ravel and Debussy vibes here, I like the impressionistic ambience ✨
Thank you very much!
This is really great bro 😁 well done! i'm excited to hear the binaural version for this composition ❤
Cheers! I hope the binaural version lives up to your expectations...
