How Many War Crimes Does Each Fire Emblem Antagonist Commit?
I always found it interesting that the song we hear during the credits of Shadows of Valentia is titled "Heritors of Arcadia". This could imply that Mila and Duma are distantly related to the dragons living in Arcadia in Elibe, though it could just as easily use the more literal definition of Arcadia, being one of utopia as I understand it. Similarly, the Nabateans being called that makes me think there might be a connection between them and the Nabata desert. All of this sounds as though Elibe might be early in the timeline. It could be sometime after the Tellius games, where Dragon Laguz have evolved to be more powerful (as natural evolution is clearly a factor in Tellius lore), necessitating the use of Dragonstones. At that point, Elibe would come before the Archanea games. Alas, much of this is disproven by the different dragon mechanics in these games, however an argument could be made that whenever a group of dragons visit a new continent, the evolve and adapt, changing the dragons slightly.
Natasha should not count, since A) she's a priestess which counts as medic and (or) non-combatant B) She joins you out of her own free will So by both accounts she isn't fighting against her country (because she doesn't fight) and she isn't forced to (since she joined of her own volition). Knoll is strange. He is a prisoner of Grado, scheduled for exection, when you rescue him he and fights of his own volition as a means to repent for his actions/fix his mistake. However it's extra muddy because he wanted to be executed for his actions and he wants to die, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Cormag and Amelia are dubious, so I would chalk it as a warcrime just to be on the safe side
who cares they being used from A psychopath Archbishop
The XenoGears figures done by bring arts is more than enough for me. I would grab Bart, Fei and Elly figures when it comes to video game merchandise. Theses figures are much better than what square enix is doing with those watches.
It's funny that in Path of Radiance, you use the child characters to recruit Devdan, who joins because he's horrified that children are fighting.
Had to download the game to see that it didn’t have the geneva conventions in it, i couldn’t tell if you were joking lmao
Next time can you go over articulation? Very important thing to know when talking about action figures. And considering your vid is the only in hand review of this piece, that I can find at least, that makes it even more important.
Seeing you bust out the smaller font for Garondonf immediately tipped me off to what his entry was gonna be like
Trick question because in thracia we're fighting A patriotic liberation action so the Geneva conventions do not apply. Who knew that leaf was the most peaceful Lord in all the games
All the neckbeards are sharpening their katanas in preparation to defend their manakete search history
Rhea was justified in everything she did and she was dealing with literal genociders. I feel like her war crimes matter the least because she had no choice.
I Guess Arvis did nothing wrong
@@somakuruso hey, this was just about the Lords. Arvis got his own section on the villains' video
Is changing the classic level up noise chime a war crime? Cause alear is guilty on tons of occurrences of that 😤😤
What would be the geneva convention in this series?
are they prepainted?
@@cykouxis516 They aren't pre painted, but the plastic is coloured, meaning painting isn't necessary
@@willbill6942 thanks for reply , did it take long to put together ? is it hard?
@@cykouxis516it was a while ago, but I don't remember it being too bad. The parts are very large, which makes assembly easy, tho cutting them from the sprews can be a bit tricky with some parts. If you're newer to the hobby, it shouldn't be too hard.
@@willbill6942 I never built these ,I saw that it is on a deal so thats why I finally ordered it .
Wait are you even eligible to commit war crimes when escaping from Manster? I don't know what the laws say. You're not soldiers you're prisoners. At that point you represent no country and fly no flag. What about the church of Seiros in part 1? Cleaning up bandits sounds like police work. Protecting the holy tomb? Private security. There's no war at that point.
I think she's more interesting when I give her the leg ring and she actually joins the fight constantly on chapter 4, she can pair with Lex without having him skip the action, her thoron is probably the best A rank magic, and she's even more interesting on her personality, how many girls claim to be their crushes' bodyguard?
Games be playin in medieval times, of course they can enlist kids.
The constant black background with nothing on it really does this video a disservice in making it look very unappealing
Technically, Lorenz isn't fighting against his own country: The Alliance is split between the pro-Empire houses and the anti-Empire houses. Lorenz is compelled to fight agaisnt the Empire, not against the Alliance, as Claude, the Alliance's Leader, is anti-empire, thus, internationally speaking, fighting against the Empire is fighting for his country.
OMG I can’t believe I just found this! Let’s go I’m locking in with a snack & hoping there’s more parts!
5:26 Gale never joins Roy's army.
I feel like Takahashi has a similar issue like with me where he remakes an old concept he was most attached to and keeps rebuilding it from the ground up. I can relate.
If Takahashi give Xenoblade 5 a sub title of “Xenogears”, I may go crazy in a good way 😂
Many thanks for the translation! It felt so great to return to that world once again!
You forgot edelgard experimenting with humans and using the resultig creatures in her armies.
@@mateusgreenwood1096 this was focused on her as a protagonist. The video on villains goes over her as an antagonist
@willbill6942 ok
The "starting" level of 10 says a lot (never knew about that! Wonder if it's a bug/accidental oversight.) One minor but overlooked point, though, about Stier vs Seibzehn is that, while still low, Rico has a naturally higher hit rate than Maria that carries over to their gears. So Stier does hit more reliably than Seib which means it at least has one advantage. It isn't a lot, but it's something.
@@keinlanz good point about the hit rate. It does provide something unique, tho I think it's still overcome by just how advanced 17's starting Equipment is. You can get away with not upgrading her at all until part way through disc 2. Then by the time Rico could actually catch up, Xenogears comes around with even better accuracy and the same power stat XD. The poor guy can't catch a break. The 10 level thing is definitely sneaky tho. I'd say it might've been an oversight, but the default level for most others is 1, even late joining members, so no clue how that happened, lol.
I will say, is it really the war crime of “forcing” soldiers to fight against their home country if they willingly joined you? Examples being Fates characters like Felicia and Kaze who make it clear their loyalty is to the MC and not any particular nation.
Do you know anything about current watch prices or are they just out of your price range?
@@almost9716 I've never looked into watch prices since I don't see a need to wear a watch personally. My point more than the price was that this isn't a product most fans of Xenogears want or can afford.
@ three $50-$2000 are reasonable prices for good watch. I don’t know their quality or who makes them, but those are reasonable prices for a Watch.
11:56 Silence staffs are probably the closest FE analog to real world ECMs.
10:15 if they were actively trying to kill you, they were enemy combattants. I'm pretty sure the "execute PoW" clause doesn't apply to PoWs whom are actively trying to kill you.
8:30 Path of Radiance Chapter 2 is against bandits (unlawful combattants) whom, even if they were lawful combattants, had already engaged in several war crimes by then and as such, aren't protected under Geneva Conventions. Rout chapters against unlawful combattants wouldn't qualify as war crimes anyways even if they were the result of "no quarters" orders and not the enemy soldiers being too fanatical for their own good.
8:10 I mean, are rout maps truly "no quarters" orders, or are enemy combattants too stupid and/or fanatical to surrender and/or run away when the battle isn't going their way?
6:38 aren't valid military assets (such as weapons, ammunition, and military strongholds) a valid item to seize from enemy combattants, while personal effects (such as gold, other trinkets, and non-weapon treasures) qualify as a war crime?
5:32 I'm pretty sure Toroneo, Haar, Jill and Zihark joined up willingly. Zihark was never really on the side he was nominally fighting for, Jill and Haar were technically not part of Daein's army, being effectively foreign mercenaries, but even then Jill joined forces with Ike against the common of Kilvan pirates, stuck with the group for a while being involved in foreign politics power plays, and started to question her loyalties to the Fantasy Counterpart of Nazi Germany after interacting with a few "indesireable", considering how shit the foreign mercs were treated I doubt Haar was that loyal to Daein, and I'll admit to not remember Toroneo's recruitment, but didn't he join Ike out of some friendship and/or loyalty for Greil (killed by the Black Knight, an agent of Daein directly reporting to Ashnard btw)? They're all willing defectors. Plus, one of the base convos has Ike explicitly tell Jill "hey, you can sit this one out if you want, no hard feelings!" in so many words, so that's proof against coercion. 5:36 No. Just no. Tharja is a creepy stalker who's 1) nowhere near loyal to Phlegia and 2) way too obsessed, creepy stalker style, with the enemy tactician, so she doesn't count as a coerced recruit. She effectively invited herself to that party cause she's a dangerous creepy stalker. If anything, she's the one committing a war crime for her weird creepy sexual harassment of the enemy commander, and if anything, a case could be argued against Chrom that he has committed a crime by turning a blind eye to sexual misconduct under his command.
Jill and Haar were Daein soldiers. Jill clearly signed up for the soldier's glory, but was basically conscripted to fight alongside Ike against bandits outside of one instance where she didn't even know it was her countrymen she was fighting. Haar originally came from Begnion, but had no loyalty to it. And when Jill became a Draco Knight, she was placed in Haar's battalion by Shiharam in order to help ensure her safety. When Ike was lorded by Elincia, however, Jill came around to fighting against Daein, willingly, wanting to better understand Laguz.
@@LittleAl016 Lorewise, Shiharam's regiment (including Haar and Jill, even if Jill herself "went native" as it were) were mercenaries originating from Begnion and while they were a honorable bunch, they were still foreign mercs and Petrine made it *VERY* clear they weren't actually part of Daein and threatened them with being deported back to their home country to face whatever (most likel trumped up) charges the (notoriously corrupt) Senate would string them up on if they didn't cooperate with her war crimes of opening a dam and flooding countless civilians just to get at Ike and allies.
Just gonna be honest, I stopped listening after 2 seconds because you sound WEAK. And that is exactly why we're going through what we're going through in the west, because we have a population of WEAK people.
How is Lachesis fighting against her own country when they literally attacked her after a coup in Augustria and her brother was in imprisoned.
Also cormag was lied to by valter that eirika killed glen and eirika tells him the truth no Jaffar Nino and Vaida against the black fang
Even if Disc 2 got the full treatment, certain characters just should've been temporary, as their story arcs begin and end within a single segment of the game. Rico, Billy, Maria, and Emeralda are pretty much like this; they all should've been temporary party members or developed further with a concluding sidequest line to develop and finalize their character arcs.
Counting people who look like children isn't really fair since they ARE legal adults. That's kind of like throwing a dude in jail because his 23 year old girlfriend looks like she's 15.
@@whyareyoulikethis2819 they are objectively children though. They look like children, they act like children, they talk like children. The only difference is the number that is their age. It'd be like considering a 15 year old cat a child, despite it being a senior.
@@willbill6942 Some of them yes, like Fae or Nils because certainly dragons would have a different year point at which they become adults, but Nowi and Flayn aren't children. Nah confirms that her mother is just childish despite being an adult in her dialogues. Given Nah got to Nowi's physical appearance age in the same span of time it took Lucina to grow up that would absolutely make Nowi an adult dragon. She's just delicate. Flayn on the other hand might have been a war crime in the original war we see at the start of 3H with Seiros but even if we completely ignore the whole being a ancient saint thing, she's been at Garreg Mach for a couple of years already. Even if we assume her age froze when she went to sleep, that still puts her over the cutoff point for a child soldier. She also does not act like a child. She's just baby-faced.
Remakeee is here yahOoOo
Outside of Fates, everyone who fights against their nation does so WILLINGLY. Not a warcime, just treason. Edit: Ok, nevermind, almost NONE of the things you mentioned are ACTUAL warcrimes...
This is sad. I don't understand who's fault is that gaming turned into an overconsumption hobby. For people to just throw money at for almost everything. For stuff you mostly don't need just to satisfy a nostalgia for a lost era...
Just bought this one today. I wish they would re-release the Fei and Elly figures.. they are quite expensive today :/
@@barbe00brune I know, it's hard to find them these days, and they're always $150-200+. Considering they've been out of print for 4 years at least, Square really needs to get them reprinted.
this degeneration disease is such a badly made thing...out of nowhere...suddenly dragons become....brain damage or something like...and SOMEHOW the dragon turning into a human somehow defeats the brain cancer???? huh? like how does that even make sense? if anything i call this lazy writting, if anything the holy nagas pretty much saying "become human or die" makes me belive THEY made the dragon degenerating brain cance because.................reasons.........yea...............badly made if anything else
@@drmedicechsrick8702 "becoming human" doesn't cure degeneration. The point of becoming a Manakete is not to become human, but rather, to seal away one's draconic essence within a dragon stone. Degeneration doesn't really come from nowhere for dragons, it's a known thing that affects the species. It's just that many dragons are prideful and do not fear it. Naga's ultimatum, I would assume, arises from the fact that she doesn't want to deal with degenerated dragons going crazy in the future and destroying mankind's/her kingdoms. Also, how/why would Naga invent brain cancer and inflict it upon her entire species? If anything, I'd call that lazy writing.
9:22 you go girl
One funny thing about 3 Houses child soldiers, is that, due to the fact the game has a very defined timeline, and each character has a canonical birthday listed in game, whilst some characters may start the game at 14 years old, they all turn 15 by the time they first see combat. Except Flayn, because Sothis knows how to calculate her age in dog years.
