Brilliant shave John never tried Mitchell’s wool fat as of yet have a great rest of the week and take care of yourself no SOTD unfortunately due to work commitments.and my condolences go out to Kim Grays family very sad news ❤️

I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better, John.

It's been a very hard week, 6-7 weeks actually, for me. But, with my depression worsening, having to change medication, the news about Kim, and all the stress at school in the lead up to Christmas, it's been especially difficult.

I had no idea that Mitchell's had actually gone belly up.

Shaves since Tuesday have been with both of Kim's soaps; The Warrior and Unstoppable, the 44C she gave me, Yaqi Aqua 24mm tuxedo, and boots teatree witch hazle.

I think Mitchell's only changed the formula last year. I got a puck right at the last moment.

I just spoke to Kim last week, and although i am very sad, I am happy that I spoke to her when I did, and her strength, persistence, and love will be carried on by all who knew her.

Here I am, saddened and sheepish, with my tail between my lags for being late again.

I made the mistake of thinking I was getting the original tallow formula from Amazon but received the new formula instead. Decided to keep it and give it a try. No issues lathering but I have been able to pick up a couple of tallow pucks that I'm yet to try.

Nice shave John! Very nice brush! 🤩👌 And you ended up with a great deal on it as well! I have the Yaqi knock-off of the Vector and it's one of my best razors, I bet your's is even better. BTW: I'm on my 12th shave on 1 Kai Pink Captain Titan Mild blade and it still feels good. You should find something to keep your blade in till the next AC shave, it'd be a shame to throw away top tier blades after 1 use. My last SOTD: Stirling Destination Unknown soap and splash (one of this year's Blackfriday scents), the Stirling 24mm synthetic brush, Muhle r89 Twist with a Rex Platinum blade, and Nivea Sensitive Cooling Balm. I watched this video last night Very sad to hear of Kim Greys, passing,So near to Christmas as well.I did,nt know Mitchells had gone bust either,L own the pot and a couple of pucks, so I had to use it today, Like you said ,It gives a really smooth shave<Fresh scent.I can see these pots going the same way as old spice shaving mugs sometime in the future. e bay will be full of them. Always a good watch although I don,t often comment Cheers.

Tabac also changed their formula, and removed the tallow. am guessing it has something to do with EU rules, but just guessing. Mitchells maybe did the same so they could continue to sell into Europe.

1st off. My condolences to Kims family. A very sad day. And i liked the shave. Its sad after all these years mitchells has closed. My own sotd was one of my go to work day shaves. The rockwell 6c with a rockwell blade, and proraso green soap and matching after shave. Have a great week John 👍

Johnny, excellent shave my friend. Any thoughts between the Merkur 34C, Edwin DE89, and the Muhle R89? I have the 34C and love it but really want to try the EJ and the Muhle.

Upon further investigation, I think they were forced to reformulate by regulators.

My condolences to Kim Grays family🙏 My understanding is MWF shave soap was produced since mid 1930s based on a previous 1893 formula (they even said so on MWF website at the time) and lanolin is an important skin food ingredient, the original Tallow version has not been available for a few years but some there's been some box mislabeling around since the change over to Vege based soap. I've never had much trouble lathering MWF soap and lather for me is high quality. Take care John.👌🤠👌

I’ve never tried that soap but goodness, it lathers up nicely.

I've seen reviews claiming there is no difference between the old vs new versions. I've also seen reviews claiming the original version is not easy to lather. And users like you who show no difficulty in generating a decent lather. However, with all the excellent soaps on the market (tallow and non-tallow), I've never been tempted to try Mitchell's Wool Fat. Nevertheless, once again you did okay!

When you change a formula that has worked for over 100 years you are playing with fire. They got burned. People hate it when companies cut corners and reformulate.

I'm surprised that some artisan hasn't tried to dupe Williams mug soap. I see on one site it's going for 85 bucks. Don't know Kim gray gonna have to look her up

MWF gone belly up? That is most unfortunate. I do remember an Etsy soap maker in the UK from a couple of years ago who make small batches of a tallow based shave soap with lanolin. If I can relocate that vendor, I will post it. I might have seen that soap in a Kevy Shaves video. Memory fails me.

Great shave John. I have Mitchell’s Wool Fat but not the original formula. It does lather well and I do like the scent. I agree with you on the Agua Brava. Not one of my favorites. Have a great week.

Great shave John. Sometimes John, yuh just gotta take your time. It won't hurt anyone if you do sort of a long form video from time to time. You are funny and a good story teller. I get a laugh at least once from every video you post. I think sometimes when we are filming a video we get stuck on not making it too long and sometimes that thought will have a negative effect on the quality of our shave. Try it sometime for grins and giggles. I would but I'm not that interesting lol.

Nice shave John even though you had some difficulties with the brush. This is why I don't like badgers, very inconsistent results for me...Oh, and the prices 😆 For Blackfriday I got the Rex blades and soap samples of the Rex soaps, so my last SOTD was: Rex 1966 soap sample (this is my least favorite of the 4), Omega Hi-Brush synthetic barber pole brush, the Yaqi Romulus Open Comb with a Kai Pink Captain Titan Mild blade, Proraso Red splash, and Nivea Sensitive Cooling Balm. I didn't get to the shave last night because I was up late baking. I made three different kinds of cookies: two for presents for my team at school and Christmas 🎄 cookies for my students to decorate.
