I Built A Watch In The Style of Artisans De Genève (Part 1: Movement Decoration & Hand Preparation)
I decided to take a leap and try to build a watch that was a bit more complex than some of the watches that have come before. I wanted to introduce some new parts and techniques to familiarize myself with them and use them going forward on future builds. I found inspiration in a watch called the “Rough Matte” by its creators at Artisans de Genève Artisans de Genève is a watch personalization service based in Switzerland. In my opinion they are the pinnacle of bespoke watch making and I have admired them for some time.
In the first video of this series I focus on decorating the movement as well as preparing the hands and markers for paint. I introduce a few new parts to the channel including a decorated automatic winding bridge as well as a rose gold rotor. Both of these items have a finish known as cotes de Genève. A striping pattern that has a vast history in watchmaking. I also try to modify the balance assembly and that ends up getting me in a lot of trouble. Also in the video I show the process of removing the lume and paint from hands as well as setting up the markers for paint. The painting process is not shown in an attempt to keep both cameras safe but be sure to check out the next video to see the results.
Hope you enjoy.

Building a Teeny-Tiny Datejust For A Very Special Somebody

The watch, while aesthetically pleasing, concealed several underlying problems that emerged during the build. L...

      i recommend replacing your tweezers, as the tip separation when not compressed requires significant force just to get the tips to where other tweezers generally rest. This increase in required force decreases your accuracy with the tweezers.

      You are completely correct I misspoke in the video. I apologize for that. It's funny you say that as I was actually looking on Bergeon tweezers today. Before I would just use plastic tweezers. • @GoldenStateWatchShop
      @GoldenStateWatchShop Місяць тому

      Hey thank you for checking out the video. I understand that there is some controversy within the community with using a Seiko branded dial in a situation like this. Though I encourage the use of completely custom dials as well as sterile dials it ultimately comes down to what the individual commissioning the watch would like. In this case, a black Grand Tapisserie dial with a rose gold Seiko logo was chosen by Mr. Barrett as it most closely aligned with his vision of the watch. Hey man thank you for checking out the video. I’ve found the plating to be quite good. You’re going to see tarnish over time in heavy wear points like the inside of the glide lock and the inside of the bracelet links. Obviously it is ill advised to polish the plating as that is artificially increasing the wear on the finish. I started doing this, built about 3 nice watches but I've just bought a Pagini root beer and it's made me think.....just buy ready built and change the dial. I couldn't buy the parts for the price of this pagani. Even swapping the dial its still cheaper than buying bits separately.

    • @GoldenStateWatchShop
      @GoldenStateWatchShop Місяць тому

      Thanks for watching the video! Swapping a dial on an inexpensive watch is a great way to customize and personalize it to your liking. Pagani Designs actually played a large part in why I started building watches in the first place. I originally bought a "Pepsi" GMT for myself and a "Rootbeer" GMT for my cousin. However, over time, my appreciation for the Pepsi faded, mainly because of things like the aluminum bezel and the Pear DG 8833 movement (this is prior to them switching to NH34's). With some searching and some time, I was able to find higher quality parts and ended up building the watch from the ground up. This is actually the watch featured in the first video posted to this channel. Again thank you very much for checking out the video and supporting the channel.

    Love it! I have 8.75 inch wrists. 40mm on me looks small, but I sure as hell don't want an Invicta hockey puck to mitigate that. Might have to build a GMT for the hell of it.

      Hey thank you for checking out the build. Though there are movements that come with a black date disk changing the disk from black to white gave me a chance to showcase the process on the channel. This disk also had the added benefit of being lumed in he same color as the hands and hour markers. Thank you for your support.

    Why do you not include the links to where you purchased the parts? It would be helpful to be able to actually source the parts too. Thanks

    • @GoldenStateWatchShop
      @GoldenStateWatchShop 3 місяці тому

      Hey thank you for checking out the video. There are a multitude of reasons as to why I don't post the links however the main one being often times the item is removed or changed from the vendors landing for one reason or another causing the link to throw what is essentially a 404 code. If there is a particular component you are after please let me know and I'm happy to share. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thank you for your support.

      Thank you for checking out the video and for the support. Aesthetically it’s a great option for a ladies piece, my biggest concern is the accuracy of the NH05 movement. If you do build one please let me know how the regulation goes and I’d be interested in seeing the final result. Thank you again.
