Приєднався 1 чер 2006
Hello, I'm Jim, an Englishman living in Georgia (საქართველო) , the country not the state. Since 20 September 2020, this channel is primarily for longform videos related to books: reviews, hauls, TBRs, readathons etc...
My main longform content will be talking about books & reading & stuff and engaging with the Booktube community.
I have loved reading from an early age, this channel relates to my love of reading and bookish stuff.
Usually I put Booktube videos out on Sundays and Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 8pm Tbilisi time, 5pm UK time, noon Eastern, 9am Pacific. I post one minute reviews of the books I read.
With shorts I am experimenting with different random subjects like urban fishing, the Tbilisi metro, random books from the shelf, 360 degree views of Tbilisi. Shorts might be posted any time.
Follow me on Goodreads, Twitter, Instagram etc... (links below)
I always answer questions and comments.

This video just popped up on my feed, Jim, and I really enjoyed it. I've always thought the heart of poetry, let alone the meter and rhyme elements, would be very difficult to translate well. Seems that's proven true in your reading. Since I was quite young, I have loved nature poetry. I actually don't read any other kind now. ☺️ My favorite poets are Emily Dickinson and Edna St. Vincent Millay, along with Mary Oliver. I've been exploring and appreciating many more poets in the last couple of years though, including many indigenous writers.
And it references The Purple Land!
Good going, Jim!
Thanks..sk..sk...sk...Scully ☠
Great review of the book that got me back into reading when I was 20. Thanks Jim.
It was your love of Hemingway, that led me to try another Hemingway after the tedious Old Man and the Sea....
I've yet to read Hemingway, although this is one I have been contemplating to start with.
Brian at Bookish is the expert on Hemingway, I have heard he is best with short stories. I enjoyed this although he does liberally use the N-word to talk about an African-American boxer, which was a little jarring to my modern sensibilities.
Very nice! I reviewed this book as well.
It's a classic, so I'm sure you did a great job!
It is the first Hemingway I enjoyed I tried The Old Man and the sea, which was short but felt very long.
Nice!
@@davidnovakreadspoetry Thanks
This was super entertaining to watch, Jim! Love how frank and sure you are with your answers. I agreed on quite a few of them, too. 😂
@@WildHeartsandWildflowers Thanks for watching, it was a fun tag to do.
Love the narrated poems!
@@ScullyPop I put one out every Thursday.
Lovely poem!
Thanks, Melinda. Glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely reading, Jim!
@@NicolesBookishNook Thanks, buttercup :)
Great video.🌸
Thanks
Happy to hear you enjoyed it. It was a 4.5 for me. The cover on my copy was a rather stunning gorgeous bright pink! 🌸
It was a fantastic read for me. I was intrigued by the stories and characters of all three protagonists and the short chapters kept the action moving. Often when a historical fiction has separate timelines I will be far more interested in one than the other(s) but that wasn't the case here. I think this is definitely one of the best books I have read this year.
@@jimsbooksreadingandstuff Yes, writing separate timelines can be a real balancing act for a writer. I agree, Emilia Hart did a really good job with this book.
Daisy is problematic! But I love hardcover books. I'm just starting to read Othello but I know the plot. This was fun!
Each to their own. I am more into reading than books, a paperback for me is just more comfortable to read and carry around, but hardbacks look prettier. Enjoy Othello...if you can enjoy a tragedy...it is my favorite Shakespeare play.
This was a great tag, I loved your answers! I particularly loved Othello for the nope decision. (And I reached the end, so NOPE. 😂)
Thanks for sticking around to the end, even if you didn't like the video 🤣
I haven't seen this tag before, but it was fun to watch! I'm going to add this to my list of tags to do!
It is an old tag, that was doing the rounds 7 years ago. I liked the prompts so I revived it.
Felt similar with Black Sun - this reminded me that I've not carried on with the series.
I've read the second book Fevered Star, which was not as good as Black Sun but haven't read the third yet and not sure if I will.
This is going to be a triple tag Tuesday!
Good luck with that!
@@jimsbooksreadingandstuff Thanks! It was rather exhausting!
Love the format today!
Glad you like it sk...sk.... sk... Scully.
I won't say he was a liberal or anything, but the man was much more progressive than everyone of his time. Tho born to a illiterate nomadic family to a barbaric, violent society with constant war, he was so much open minded and desire to understand. But in my knowledge it is a shame that his ideas only last three generations (some might say two and ended with his grandchildren).
He was ahead of his time in some ways, he chose his commanders on the basis of merit not on their family ties.
What intrigues me about this book is that it is a thriller and most house swap books are romcoms/feel goods. Like you, the idea of houseswapping sounds like a nightmare to me!
This is definitely no rom-com. The book comes out on 4 December.
As a Georgian I really appreciate you! It was beautiful. I think you would also love modern poet Zurab Rtveliashvili (if you don’t already know) who sadly passed away several years ago. His poetry is also mystical, very raw and most of the times he has strong accents on phonetics and aggressive sounds of the words. There are also videos of him reading his poems on youtube.
Madloba, for the recommendation. I have tried reading Georgian literature in English translation but because many of the great writers in Georgian were poets (Tsereteli, Tabidze, Vazha-Pshavela, Ilia Chavchavadze and of course Rustaveli), translation fails to capture their essence. I need to work on learning Georgian. I am currently struggling with a children's book in Georgian "დედა. მამა. რვა ბავშვი და საბარგო მანქანა"
Good luck in learning! It can be tough at the beginning but I bet you will do it! Rustaveli can be difficult to understand for many Georgians also, language is so different now. Also Vazha-Pshavela’s language can be a bit harder to understand, as he was from the mountains and his style was sometimes criticized. There is a famous poem from Tsereteli, dedicated to Vazha, which starts like this: ენას გიწუნებ ფშაველო (I do not like your language/style). But anyway, good luck!! Happy to see people interested in Georgian.
@@TSBLK-z6e didi madloba. I think I should try some more of Galaktion Tabidze's poems.
@ My personal favourite is “The moon over Mtatsminda”
@@TSBLK-z6e It is in the book I have of his poems... ჯერ არასდროს არ შობილა ასე წყნარი! Skies have never seen the moon tranqui l, as is this!....
Love your one minute reviews 😊. This one sounds pretty good
It's fine, I've been reading a lot of psychological thrillers lately.
Lovely ❤
Thanks, Camus said Autumn (Fall) was like a second spring, where every leaf turned into a flower.
Ditto, lovely 🤗
I really admire your one minute reviews. Heck it takes me 5 minutes to say hello. Take care -James
Thanks, James. There should be plenty more to come.
Great One Minute Review!
Thanks...sk..sk...sk...Scully
I love mutkiple POVs in stories. And I really enjoy these packed short reviews! Great job Jim!
Thanks Kevin, I intend to do such reviews of almost every book I read.
Gorgeous cover! I might read this now but I’ve heard there are lots of POVs and I can only handle two POVs. Is it just two or are there more? 🤔
There are three POVs we have Altha in 1619, who is on trial as a witch, Violet during ww2 an over protected teen and Kate in our times who is escaping from an abusive marriage. The three are from the same family and have a heightened sense of the natural world. Each chapter is short and told from a different POV, so there is no confusion between the three.
@ ahhh 🤔 I’ll give it a go but as a library book and see if I like to. Thank you, Jim!
Oh dear… 😂
@@NicolesBookishNook This happens often around the winter months, it looks crazy.
I've been wanting to read this book and you convinced me that I need to do so soon. Also, props to you for doing such a great job in one minute. I just started my booktube channel and it's been challenging to learn how to talk to a camera smoothly 😅
@@beyondtherequiredreading Welcome to Booktube. For these one minute reviews, I write out a script, otherwise I'd be too tongue tied. Weyward is a fantastic read, a gripping story, and some beautiful prose and nature description.
So should I read it?? I’ve been meaning to for very long but haven’t decided yet
@@laiaabotii2402 It is a book which divides opinion. Some really love it, others hate it. It is not for everyone. Most of the characters are unpleasant, the setting on the moors is bleak. This is the only 19th century novel I have re-read because I really like it. Wuthering Heights represents human nature at its darkest. It represents the fatal and selfish side of love. I've honestly never come across a more accurate depiction of how selfish love can get. Cathy and Heathcliff's love is fatal not only to them, but also to everyone around them. If that sounds intriguing to you go ahead and read it.
I’m going to have to check this out 😊
It is really good. Usually in historical fiction with different timelines I like one and am not interested in the other (s) but here the three women on the three different timelines are all fascinating characters.
Wow, sounds like a good book that you obviously enjoyed! Great review Jim!
It's a fantastic read, highly recommended.
Same, i try to respond to all comments. I also comment on my friends channels. Have a good weekend Jim!
@@kevintowle9665 Thanks Kevin. I have noticed your many comments on this channel.

@@readandre-read I would highly recommend this book.
BEST all YEAR?!?! Wow!
It is very good. Although you weren't too impressed with my best book read last year,, Once There Were Wolves, so it might not work for you. It is historical fiction with strong resilient female characters, who are weyward, more in tune with nature than their fellows.
@@jimsbooksreadingandstuff Maybe it'll stand up better without a book club of scientists to tear it down 😆
@@MargaretPinard The scientists will probably not be keen on the magic elements.

Great review! My daughter has this book, and I've been wanting to read it. Now I want to get to it very soon! 😊
It is a really good read. It could well be the best book I have read this year.
@jimsbooksreadingandstuff Wow! That's saying a lot! Btw, just curious, do you read non-fiction, too?
I read this last spring and it was a great vacation read!
I think it could be the best book I have read this year...
I want to read this one- the cover is gorgeous!
It is a fabulous read. It was the Goodreads Choice winner for Historical Fiction last year.
Cheers, Jim!
Hey Sk..sk..sk...Scully.... this is a great read.
I really enjoyed that. I’d never heard of her but shall see if I can find some more 😊. Thanks Jim
Joolz is based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I saw her maybe half a dozen times performing her poetry on stage back in the 1980s. The collection was published in 1990.
lol. Loved this Jim. Very true, very amusing 😊
I haven't read any of the books on the Booker Longlist this year. But I have read some previous winners.
Awesome poem today!
I am glad you enjoyed it, SK..sk..Sk...Scully
This was so cool! Don't think Ive ever heard of her, looking her up immediately. Thx for sharing her prose.
Her heyday was back in the 1980s.
Thanks for the quick review. I was looking for an audiobook to listen to and was considering this but I had no idea what this book was about and if I’d be interested. I’ll definitely be listening to it soon
Enjoy your listening, it’s a classic and I really love it but be warned it is a bleak tale.
Hi there, I have come by way of Big Hard Books and Classics. So, kia ora from New Zealand and a fellow English booktuber. Subbed, and I look forward to seeing your content. Regards, Mark.
Kia ora Mark, welcome to the channel, Allen at Big Hard Books and Classics is a great Booktuber. I have plenty of content, hope you find something to interest you amongst it all.
Excellent, concise review - impressive! I read all of Agatha Christie's Poirot books when I was in my early twenties, and they established a lifelong love for mysteries. I'm now planning to read through all her Miss Marple stories over the next couple of years! Thanks for sharing! 😊
I have yet to read all of the Hercule Poirot books, but Agatha Christie is my goto author for a classic whodunnit. I have tried her contemporaries like Dorothy L Sayers and Ngaio Marsh but prefer Agatha. I have yet to work out the mystery before the reveal. Thanks for commenting, I am sure you will enjoy the Miss Marple stories, too.
Let’s get Jim to 2,000 subs! 🙌
Sounds good to me.
