What could be better than walking up to a beautiful sight of fresh fruits and veggies on your own land!? Here are my adventures of growing food, medicinal plants, canning & using my Harvest right freeze dryer to preserve food. A mother of 2 boys & 2 sibling dalmatians. I try to keep my life as simple as possible while I learning each day to become more self sufficient.

Garden Tour june 2024
Everything was looking pretty and I could hear them all say.. Video shoot please, we are looking great! So I indulged. We went through a heat wave, and it was up to 45 deg with the humid-ex. It was quite warm.
Due to the upcoming move, I am just enjoying what I have and not really investing in a lot of time. The first year our 4 fruit cocktail tree has so much fruit on it!
Thanks for being here.

I find mullein everywhere! She grows where she wants as she wants. We see them all along the highway roads here. Very pretty to pass when they are in yellow bloom. #herbalist #medicinalplants #forager #foraging #mullein #herbal #plantmedicine #fyp
How did I get here?

thank you so much
Amazing
thank you
What is the texture when you open them? Are they still firmish, or more on the mushy side like potatoes canned in water?
I do make them into hashbrowns. You could add it to soups too if you would like.
I grew up eating Black Currant, it’s so hard to find now. I found the juice, not the berries yet.
Have you checked your local nursery?
@@shesalwaysbarefoot not here, will have to order some from online.
What is the shelf life of dry canned potatoes? Can another with water! Good 1 to 3 yrs.
@@Orville-sw1cg ok
Are you using caulking or glazing?
@@AckBoater caulking
@@shesalwaysbarefoot I thought glazing was used on sash?
That sounds like something I need now and to stock up on. Thanks for the info. Have you dried any, if so, how did it turn out?
Turned out great! :)
I LOVE feverfew it really bums me out that it’s not that widely known and it’s use/benefits are AMAZING
@@julitaylor7390 totally agreed! I saw some wild feverfew on the side of the road at my uncles!
How does one use this plant?
@@fidelisetverus tea or a tincture. Eat the leaves. It’s very bitter
@@shesalwaysbarefoot Thank you!
love it! where can I get one?
I got it on marketplace! Then just changed it up! Look for things with thinner drawers. ❤️
Dry canning potatoes is dangerous, you are risking the health of yourself and family.
ok
Can you explain thanks?
@@Grace-love79 to kill pathogens the contents of the canning jar must reach 250 f . That is not possible for potatoes without liquid in the jar. The USDA has tested this and dry canning failed . You are risking the health of yourself and your family by not following scientifically tested methods.
@@Grace-love79 for safe canning of foods that are not acidic the temperature inside the canning jar must exceed 250f . Dry canning potatoes cannot reach temperatures high enough to kill potential pathogens. Air is a lousy conductor of heat.
So glad to find you on UA-cam.
Thank you! That was so kind.
I relate. I get so excited seeing a plant I don't know out by my cottage house in woods. I stop and say,"What are you"..talking to the plant and people would think I am crazy. A former RN, BSN I love wild edibles n healing my own body.
I say if you do something and you worry that people might think youre crazy, you might be on to something. lol. Keep at it!
The mullein near me loves the railroad tracks. Absolutely beautiful when they blossom!
I agree!
Mullein!!! My father was severely allergic to mullein; my mother fed it to him and is now serving a life sentence
That is unfortunate for him.
Just got out of the hospital. I have a similar allergy as he did, but I guess I didn't eat enough ☹️
@@rioppp7855 interesting!
hi this lorik im happy for you but i will miss you
hi this is lorik
Should have been barefoot during vid
I was. 😂
Gorgeous
To counteract the bitterness, make a sandwich with yeast spread like vegemite. It helps a little with reducing the bitterness.
Thanks for the tip! I have heard of vegemite before, but never consumed it. I appreciate your comment! ❤
@shesalwaysbarefoot it's a mortal sin that I like it. I'm a New Zealander who eats a aussie brand. I don't care. It I'd a sanitarium product.
Always do you! Regardless of others ❤
Love this! Last year i had so many flowers I felt so bad I didnt make a water station lol
Don’t dwell on the past. We all learn new things and go from there. :)
to ferment A SEED CRACKED. BEER FERMENT MUST NEEDS TO B CREATED. THE SEEDS ARE THE STARCH REQUIRED. CARB LOADED
She doesn't spell it out, but she is leaving a fat inch of head space above the potatoes. 1 1/8" is standard for wet pack. Does anyone know why so much space here?
because with heat, it shrinks. it was packed raw before being heated in canning process.
I have never canned but I’ve heard leaving the peel on is not safe. Can I leave the skin on all potatoes or just some ❓❓
@@kathyparker5899 I scrubbed my potatoes very well. I wouldn’t can it if they are dirty. :)
Really when drive home you always go max speed racing everywhere Take in the moment's

I've got the same canner !!!
whoot!!! Have you been filling up your shelf alot this year?
Need to pretreat bare wood with with boiled linseed oils first? Does Dap33 not require wood treatment first? Oil based or water based?
Pretreat wood with linseed oil.
Did you just use a scraper and maybe a heat gun, or did you use any solvents, or did you use another method? Looking for tips, so I don't break my vintage windows...
yes! a heat gun works well too! it depends on how far gone your chaulking is as well. some came off super easy, others i did have a heat gun. just go slow, and have patience and then reward yourself ! i think out of all my windows i broke only 2 panes, i was really happy about that.
Why?
Why not

I thought the same thing, she looks badass lol

Thanks my friend! we are getting so much rain this year! It's raining at this moment!
@@shesalwaysbarefoot yes, same here. Getting a lot of rain this year last year this time of the year didn’t rain for five weeks or so. Oh well.

What about a backing bead on the sash. Did you do that?
not sure what that is... i have my pins in holding the glass in place. Its been up now for years, and i have zero issues with my work :)
It’s a good idea but not the dogs bro
I have 2 dalmatians and they don’t go into it. They have their water dish. It’s meant for bees, butterflies or whatever pollinator that needs a drink on a hot day. Thanks for your comment.
I repaired a broken window pane in my Mother's bedroom & I was surprised at what I did! DIY matters on certain on certain house projects! I will try before calling a professional!
we always have that fear we cant do it. whats the worst that can happen? it doesnt work? orrrrr we learn a new skill :)
I tried for the first time, when I ran the puddy knife down. The knife was pulling the puddy out ir either puddy was not smooth it was roughly looking
It takes some practice. Go slow. :)
Supposed to knead the entire contents first. The top will be too dry despite being sealed. Found out the hard way before reading the instructions on the can. Some linseed oil or even mineral oil on a clean blade help to prevent sticking to the blade.
I think this is great. I love milk thistle and it's healing properties. I think it is one of the best herbs to target the liver and gallbladder in general. Many great detox routines have been created with this herb. Great video. Thank you ❤🙏
Thank you! I find milk thistle to be so beautiful! I grow it for the liver. I grind it and put in salads or smoothies.
Didn’t know it was that easy. Thank you 🙏🏼 😊
Happy to help!
I got the DAP 33 Window Glazing 2 weeks ago. Wanted to see how long it takes to get hard. used a small sample on a piece of wood. STAYED COMPLETELY SOFT AND NEVER GOT HARD at about 70 degrees!!!
Oh really!? it was my first time using it. Maybe too much humidity in the air?
Read can. Can take weeks.
Thanks for showing to get the seeds from the flower of the plant. Have a question though, after you get the seeds what do you do with them? I believe the dosage per day lets say for some who is 140lbs would be roughly 750mg but how does that equate with the seeds? Is there a number of seeds that equals that amount? Thanks in advance. God Bless:)
I dont really figure out a dosage. I grind my seeds and put them on my salads in a seed mix (i just posted a video on that) or into smoothies. Everything in moderation. I would also just weigh the 750 mg. then grind them, weight it after. Thank you for being here. :)
Thanks very good video. rob
thanks rob!
I think birds are eating all my squash blossoms! Im going to try those big scary eye balloons.
Have you tried a netting over them ? But I like the idea of big scary eye ballons haha.
Thanks so much. I was dreading doing my ancient windows and you made it all seem doable (and actually fun).
you got this!! if i can do it, you can do it! it was my first time.
Ide bagus😄
