    I've downloaded it. It's just easy listening to it sitting in traffic to and from work. Love the history, bud. Wish you'd talk your buddy Charles Beaty into an audible book. I'd definitely buy it. That dude, regardless of whether he was poaching or not, has got more knowledge about deer hunting, reading signs, and being in the thick of it, it would be cool just to hear his knowledge.

    How dare you called him a SOB. You are the SOB!!! You don’t even know where he was from!! It was San Diego, Texas in Duval County. My dad worked for the Parr’s and most of what you are saying is untrue. You are probably from from Cuba or just crawled from under a rock because you are starving!!You are the crook!!

    Good factual story about a very corrupt family. A few things to clear up though Im From Benavides Tx, George died under his favorite windmill at Los Horcones ranch outside of Benavides. His daughter Georgia was my boss for a little while and I assure you he didnt go to Mexico. The county was never called San Diego county its always been Duval since the 1880's, and he got Lyndon Johnson the democratic nomination to the senate not the white house. He was a hell of a poacher though, my uncle has a few of his wall mounts from his collection at his ranch.

    You’re exactly right on Cj Alexander’s buck. Keep your mouth shut, photo document the buck so you have proof of the day it was killed. Then wait until the statute of limitations are up. People just trying to get 5 min of fame is what hunting has turned into. Commercialization has hurt hunting as much as the sorry ass government.

    I grew up spending my summers in Benavides working with my uncle. I thought he was pulling my leg when he told me about George Parr shooting deer from a helicopter. We went onto the Orcones Ranch(Parr Ranch) every now n then. We picked up hay bales and hunted it if we knew nobody was working that day (Yup those were different days). Was shot out back then i feel but we saw an occasional nice buck. My dad worked for Parr way back in the day, he was born in Benavides. My hunting partner once had an appendicitis when he was a kid. His father took him to George's house and george gave him a note and said take this to the hospital with your child. But....remember he owed him with his vote. Stolen money from the county he used to take care of the poor residents. I hunt down the road from the ranch but can see the ranch house from my blind. Lots of memories and stories from those years long ago !!!

    Thank you, I communicated this story to Dudley Lynch back in ...2003 think it was. He was extremely interested in it and mentioned that he might write a book about it. My cousin who had spent countless hour and money researching family history, as well as in writing his own book, was offended by this expressed interest. We never ever communicated about any of this afterwards. But he is the one who found Uncle Albert, took his sister to see him, and arranged burial service when he passed in 2004. Nor did I communicate with Mr. Lynch out of consideration for my cousin. He passed away about 2 years ago, no book. His wife shared all his efforts with him, and is still sharp as a tack, as well as loving to talk. If you ever wanted to talk with her, I would contact her and set it up. Me, I am widowed since Feb. 2001, 82 yrs old, and all the riveting stories I heard at my mother's knee, forever imprinted in my memory , I can only gloss over as my memory has dimmed. Should make you feel like a youngster!! You can find Dudley Lynch book on ebay and other vendors, but they hold it too dear for my pocketbook. I would think that your library could order a copy for you to peruse. Thank you for your response and interest. Let me know if there is anything I can do,

    Well, you stunned me with this one! Husband's aunt worked for John Connally in the Sid Richardson law firm, followed Connally to Washington. Never had a chance to talk with her after that. Hoover would certainly be in his element today with the trans movement. Bass family. Long ago a friend's son worked security for them. I just felt they were another Texan success story, a clean one. Allegiance to them...Wow. Rumors of wealthy elite in Texas along with LBJ plotting Kennedy assasination. Illusions. Delusions. What a tangled web....

  • @shirleynelms
    @shirleynelms 6 місяців тому

    I was so surprised to see the title of you r talk. Dudley Lynch wrote a book about Parr of the same title. Another excellent book : A Texan Looks at LBJ . Personal connection. Never knew grandparents o my Mother's side. G'mother died a month after the last child born in 1929. Grandfather Burch moved to Freer where he was pastor of the First Baptist Church and Constable. Oil boom and the population swelled to 29,000. Life Magazine featured some pictures. He struck oil on a parcel of land, he owned and at some point there was a dispute with Standard Oil. George Parr represented his case, and not surprisingly lost it. Grandfather also operated a chili and pool parlor. Wild and wooly times. To break up fights and unruly behavior he was known to knock them on the head and handcuff them to hitching posts to sober up. I grew up listening to the stories my mother passed on from her Daddy about those days. He told her there probably were very few wells in the area that didn't have the bodies of murdered people and investigators. My mother said he was shot through the window as he lay asleep in his bed and George Parr was responsible. Official record: Texas Rangers show up in the house, waking his son, Albert, with demands of why did you shoot your Daddy? Shot him with his own 45. They took him to Ranger headquarters where he "made a confession", then taken back to Freer for appearance before a judge (Parr?) and told he could plead guilty and go to prison for life or have a jury trial and face the electric chair. Albert was a young man - believe in his 20's, born with what was called "waterhead" baby. A bit simple minded, not given to anger or malice. When he arrived in Huntsville prison, he received a series of electric shock treatments. Medical experimentation or what? There was so much trauma and even shame that many in the family would never discuss him at all. Others assumed he had died in prison. In time, there were distant cousins who took it on themselves to look into these events but warned off, even receiving threatening phone calls. Years later another cousin went to Freer to research and was told that all the legal records of that timeframe had been destroyed in a courthouse fire. He tried for several years to find out what had happened to Uncle Albert, finally finding him in 2003. Albert had absolutely no memory of family or times past. He did died in 2004. There was a rumor that Mr. Burch had a run in with one of Parr's men and was murdered shortly afterward. One thing for sure, Mr. Burch could handle himself very well, as well as the Word of God. An old timer told my Aunt that Mr. Burch, without doubt, was the best preacher she had ever heard in all her 90 plus years. In 2002-03, I was searching, hoping to absolve Albert. Mr Burch's body was taken to Corpus Christi, for autopsy. I hoped to find the bullet there, have it tested against my grandfather's gun, but those records were long gone as well. His murder was in 1939. While I was delving around, I had an online communication with a woman in Texas whose mother/grandmother? operated what was called a Tourist Camp, a in Freer. She was shot through her window with a 45 and killed as she, too, lay asleep in her own bed. George Parr took over as El Patron after Archer died. He was the go to for any of the poor people in need of help. Ballot Even the dead returned his favors with Ballot Box 13 . When I first heard of George Parr's death in the midst of legal troubles, I wondered about deal making and testimony and how much of a liability threat to LBJ. Surely Ballot Box 13 was not the only collaborative effort between Parr and LBJ. And, yes. LBJ was a murderous bastard as well.

    Meat hunting isn’t the same as shooting giant, world class bucks. If you were legitimately meat hunting then you would have taken whatever option presented itself including does. Don’t attempt to frame this into anything other than what it was - poaching giant bucks off private land because you didn’t want to pay to hunt. There’s a tremendous number of us that pay to hunt in Texas and we can’t afford to hunt these giant ranches but not all of us have such a sense of entitlement to poach off others land.
