#hamradio #radiocommunication #2meter With 2 meter SSB and CW most people use horizontal Yagi antennas. Some even use more power to do moon 🌕 bounce on uppersideband. In my area I do occasionally hear stations in the early mornings. And sometimes through out the day during band openings. My suggestion would be get a beam with a rotator to turn your antenna towards the area you wish to listen or...

oh hey sring a ground wire to that fence 😉
@@AdamDeal-KF0PRI oh lol. 😂 I’ve tried that. I did talk on 75 meter 500 miles away sitting in my friend’s driveway. The antenna was his thin wire fence that surrounded his property. He’s like Cricket what you doing? lol.
i made a 6 meter delta loop antenna and my friend was supprised it worked! lol
@@AdamDeal-KF0PRI awesome. 😎
can you hear csx/ns with this?
@@VirginianRailway yes. Trains and employees form these companies use VHF frequencies in and around the 161 MHz spectrum. You can research by looking up these rail companies on radio reference
@@mikecricket113 thank you...i know the local frequencies for my area
I've been looking at both between the 710 and this model. I know of another hm that's against this one because of screen failures and tuner malfunctions. Mike let me know your opinion.
@@bravo2xray I bought mine in 2019. Updated the firmware when I brought it home. Never updated it again. So maybe that had something to do with what you mentioned. Knock wood haven’t had any issues.
Nice signal.I have the same radio one as a base and one in my jeep. Thanks for sharing it's been awhile since I used mine.
Love the video. Short sweet and to the point. Thanks for the info.
Those anytone radios are extremely dependable and good sounding for what they cost
@@johnbosler2211 sure are. Not a 50 watt radio of course. But are rugged enough and reliable
Did you need to enable the Up/Down buttons on the side? Have the Retevis version of this radio and can't get those to work
@@noboromirno671 no I did not but on the Antone there is a lock switch on the microphone so check to see if yours is locked or even has that option
@mikecricket113 Appreciate that! Turns out it is indeed that switch that's faulty. Thanks!
Awesome! KO4HPC 73 :)
put a small piece of wood or cardboard beside your pass thru & on the other side of the window channel. If you measure correctly, you will be able to close the window enough & not crush the pass thru

@@tobyfriddle9919 😂 😂
I just bought that antenna to run on the Stryker 955 hpc. Seems like I cut 3” off just to get the swr to 1.5 and 2 radio is awful quiet these days
@@Stanley-o4f 🙁 try Grey Line. Morning and evenings usually lots of DX best times when the ionosphere is charged the most. I had a 5 minute QSO on 10 meter with a guy in San Diego, California today around 5 PM Eastern standard. Hardly any QSB. That’s interesting 🤔 about the trimming. I did not have to trim mine and it has worked fine on 10,11,12 meters. I did adjust the whip with the two set screws. But that was it.
Also be careful with that piece of wood, lots of contact area there and even capacitive coupling. I remember when I was a younger man making a vertical whip for my vehicle, I tried to stiffen it (it wasn't tapered) using an acrylic plastic tube. The SWR went from < 1.05:1 to over 1.5+ at the center of its frequency range. I was really surprised at the time.
Looks like you can shorten it some more to drag the range higher
@@neogeo8267 NanoVNA showed it was pretty good across the band.
@mikecricket113 for sure, but it looked like the slope continued forward towards lower frequencies. I suspect the center was off screen to the left. Then again I spend way too much time optimizing antennas for what likely amounts to gains that aren't meaningful 😅
Hi there, I have the pro 2014 model. Could this be programmed to listen to railroad.
@@thehouseofhorsepowerautobo4506 yes it should. Railroads. Use VHF FM. Around the 160-161 megahertz band. I would check the radio reference website for your area to find the local frequencies in your area.

I talk into a repeater about 12 miles away with my 5 watt handheld and talk simplex with other hams 10 to 15 miles away. A lot depends on what’s between you and the other person or repeater. My elevation is 885ft above sea level and most places around me are about 700 to 800 ft.
@@sparkdg yes that’s what I was saying. You’re lucky to be higher up on. Conditions is everything when it comes to line of sight. Thank you. 73.

I’m in Louisiana whats your call , my son goes by Dapper Dan and I go by Cornbread 😎👋 we also do all modes of radio we hang on 20 , 11 , 10 meters….. he likes his GMRS because he can use his call 😂👋
Nice antennas , you should be proud . 👍
That’s not my baby crying, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it 😂👋😎 ,,,,
@@cornbread-KO5RN yeah I wasn’t sure if he was heard on the video. Lol. 😂.
Thanks 😊. It works for me currently. Till I get too old to mess around with them. And when that time comes. I’ll stick to wires.
You should have gotten a Richard instead for only $10-$20 more! Sideband is for skip only cause nobody drives around on ssb mode and not reliable. Get 50W right from the Get-Go plus Echo! Got Weather on my phone! I've been told that i hide in the basement using a Base Station!😂
@@WEREWOLFUSMC I get what you’re saying. About the Richard. But the Richard doesn’t have SSB. On the contrary I do use SSB in the mobile for skip yes and for base to mobile situations when I further away from the person I’m talking to. While Am is 6-12 kilohertz wide. SSB is 3 kilohertz wide and will travel further as you know already. Also I understand that all manufacturers of “export radios” 10&12 meters cb like radios listed as ham radios are really just using the loophole of selling ham like radios to the 11 meter market for profits it’s good for them. I will be getting one of these type radios we are talking about in the future. And yes probably will mod it. For 11. But it will definitely work on 10,11,12 and possibly 15 meters. There are a few models out there that can do all. The main thing is to do and buy what suits the individual. If barefoot isn’t for you then that’s fine. In the end it’s all about what makes “you” happy. 73 and enjoy 😊
@mikecricket113 i loved talking on SSB when i was younger(reminded me of Star Wars) and made great distance contacts. Been a fan of HAM as well. Been a Truck Driver and had many radios too. I love the easily converted imports so i don't need an amp. Not needed unless you wanna annoy your locals. That's not me. Lastely, a single antenna can only run in the band you most use. CB is mine. It's gonna come in handy when SHTF!👍
I love your comments you said it, brother. I wish the rest of them were like you. Yes to the Star Wars I think that’s what they used for that track.
@@mikecricket113 kinda weird you commented now, cause, i started watching Star Wars a few minutes ago to test my surround sound!!🤣🤣🤣

@@mitchh6702 I’m not sure if you run power or not. ( no judgement). But if you do I’d look into the Washington or Lincoln 2 plus. Easy mods for more pwr out of the box. Kinda like Walt said recently. 73. But the George is a great feature radio. But with fm it’s good for local coms. I guess it also depends where you live and what the terrain is around you for me and timber. We are in a valley with lots of rolling hills but hey, if you live in a wide open space, I’m sure you’ll get more “Fars” than us. 😂
more repeaters than hams that use them...
@@McPilot_W3DDS And why is that ? I’m curious. 73
@ when I listen to the conversations on the few that have some use , it seems as though they are talking for the sake of talking. Not really saying much.
Surprisingly before I got my little B-tech 25x2 I used a Baofeng uv-5r connected to a mobile mag mount "Tram 1185" on a 4 foot home made tripod that got me in to quite a few repeaters in Middle, T.N. KO4HPC 73 to Mike and Timber.
@@agoraphobicadam1171 oh yeah, hook it up to a RN4L antenna she’ll do the job. I’m just talking about the rubber ducks and walking into a building full concrete and steel and you’re far away away from the repeater on 2 m. It’s not gonna really work. I’m glad you guys did well with that. Hi 👋 to you too 73
Politics on 7.200 for sure.
UA-cam knows I'm dreaming of my HAM radio license, but the exam materials are huge over here in Europe, but I can manage it. I hope to be able to talk to you in a year or two and any other HAM radio ppl.

Alot of transatlantic ssb phone and JS8 on 11 lately and it should stay good atleast another year or two. 2-CT-280
On VHF and up polarization is HUGE! Not like HF where the two can exist. On 6m I went from horizontal from vertical and it was night and day. 2m is even more pronounced.
Trying to unlock. But don’t have a channel 43 when I go in to test mode as others have shown. Just 39-42. I’m stuck. Looking in to chirp.
We use 2m SSB every Saturday morning on a local Voice net. Most of us have vertically polarized antennas… there are a couple guys with horizontally polarized yagis so they can reach out further. 2m SSB is great! We also use 2m SSB locally for a CW net. Thanks for the video!! Mike KK7MMN
Thank you OM for letting us know this! Happy to hear there are some vertical stations too. I hear folks sometimes during tropho openings. And once or twice a few folks on AM. Thanks again Mike. 73 and keep up the great work.
