What I learned from my first ceramic conference
*Thank you for putting up with the subpar audio! I am still figuring out the best way to record my voice in my studio… on a budget*
I first heard about NCECA from a ceramicist on Instagram (Limyanski studios). I learned so much from this ceramic conference and it opened my eyes to many more infinite possibilities of pottery.

    I'd like to know your thoughts on shipping pottery, including pricing and also do you think it's profitable enough to sell online since you have to also charge for shipping?

    Paused this video to reset my app timers on my phone. Thank you for the reminder on that. And thank you for sharing about "start early" and to not compare to others. Finally dipping into trying to make pieces for sale and I've never had the confidence to do a sale - perhaps in the spring I will give it a go! :)

    Don’t forget the tax benefits of making your pottery a business. You can count all your clay and other materials purchased as a loss on your business. So you come out ahead even if you spent more than you made.

    Seriously. I’m a relatively new potter and looking to start selling my pieces. This vid is the best and most practically insightful video on the subject that I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a LOT. The concept of practicing making pottery is common. But the concept of practicing SELLING totally opened my mind to a new way of looking at the process of selling. Brilliant!! Thank you so much.

    I love your advice and to be honest I was squirming when I saw you wash your splash pan and basin in the kitchen sink. Do you have a clay capture underneath the sink? A clay trap?

    • @jingjingceramics
      @jingjingceramics Рік тому

      A great question Liza! I actually already wiped everything down twice before going to my kitchen sink. I am slightly obsessed with having a clean wheelhead when I throw so I like to wash off the small dust layer off in the sink, and dump out the water outside :) Nothing goes down the drain, it's just the biggest place for running hot water.

    I happened to chance on this video as it came up on my recommended and I am so glad I clicked in! I am a year into pottery and the inertia to create my own social media account and start selling has been real - I just feel like my work is never polished enough and I am still trying to find a style as you said. You brought up some really good points and it's a timely reminder to get on creating my own pottery account. Thank you for that! :)

    I've noticed that I love seeing other artists and businesses as an inspiration and for fun while I'm doing something else, and then I feel very inspired, but when I catch myself comparing them with myself and my art while thinking about my own ideas I feel devastated, as if could never do what someone else is doing, but that's just wrong... if I were the one showing my work, someone else would be jealous of me probably...So it's a vicious cycle 😅 The most important thing is exactly to focus on your art as you said. Great video💗
