Nowadays you NEED only 24-70/2.8Z 95% of time if you have modern Nikon camera like Z8/9. You may crop a picture 200%-300%, maybe add some contrast and sharpness in PS and it will be still good for any social platforms. But all we WANT dozens of lenses and gear )))
Need and want hey, a 28-70 f2 would be better
I enjoyed this video. However I found that the example photos were not shown long enough to view the photos and the exposure information. I could either view the photo. And then it would change before I could view the text. I hope you dont mind me saying....not all of them...
@@tomleearchitect yeah that’s fine, the video would be too long otherwise and we’d put people off. Viewers have the option to pause on the ones they wish. 😊
In answer to the unasked question of the entertainment value of this review - Oi'll give it five. Questions, questions: How much heat does it throw off? What's it like with the diffuser cover on - how diffuse is diffuse?
The fans are really good and it never really gets hot to touch. It has a soft cover and barn doors to direct :-)
Thats why the FTZ has its own tripod mount
I’m still using the Nikon D5200 atm😂 I’m saving up for the zed 8 for its wildlife tracking
Nice shots. I would love to test a Nikon Df with some old lenses
@@toph250 Yes it would be interesting. Or even the d700 vs d850
Compare the new Tammy 50-400 to the Nikon 100-400! 🙂
@@petey4018 If a shop loans it us it will be fascinating to see! Though I’d rather have a 600mm than wider
Because you don't know how to hold a camera making lots of BS. No matter how big or small, with grip or without or with big or small lense, camera is held on left hand and your right hand is only for dials and adjustments and eventualy pressing shutter button.
@@bahadorvaladi it could be true for someone else, having a different experience and opinion. But I think people got confused, I meant I like to carry the camera in one hand. Not using it with one hand. That would be silly.
@RussandLoz sorry Russand, I didn't want to be rude but this grip thing never made sense to me. I hold camera by left hand as in the manual system apature and focus rings are adjusted by left hand under camera and my right hand is free, only for dails and shutter realese. Thanks for video anyway.
Dumping my ZF tomorrow. It is like dating a hot girl with bad breath.
@@intrinsicimagery Is it the handling? Switching to z6iii?
Really enjoyed this! Funny, relaxing, inspiring. And this: "It is nice to meet people to talk to...but not too much". I agree :) Also like to see the D700 out and about. That camera made me switch to Nikon, and I absolutely loved it.
@@CamillaHolm thanks Camilla, in the hides it’s funny as some people like compete silence and others chat loudly.
great video - you need a power pack !
I and my Nikon D850 crashed to the ground, after stepping in a pothole in the roadway….sprained my wrist and cracked the lens flange and scuff up the body. Fixed the body for $580 CAD…but kept the scuffs as war wounds!
Hi Russ another great video thanks. I have raynauds and have found sealskinz heated gloves to be brilliant. I wear them cycling in the winter and also for photography - they are thin enough to be able to operate most controls on z8/z9. You can get additional batteries too. Give them a try. Otherwise the charcoal hand warmers are pretty good tucked inside a glove. Don’t let your hand get cold - harder to warm them up once the vasoconstriction has kicked in
For your hands do a search for "convertible glove mitten" Combine a pair of those with very thin nylon/lyra knit gloves inside and you should fare better. An inexpensive pair of USB chargeable hand warmers can be kept in your pockets to give warmth when you need it. On a low setting they should provide heat all day. As for batteries, take a couple for each device and swap them between some spot close to your skin and the device OFTEN so they don't get too cold.
Have a coffee on me. 👍🏻
Wow, thanks so much Joe, I will! Do you have any social media I can follow if you take any wildlife?
@@RussandLoz I retired recently. I do still plan on doing some travel and landscape photography with maybe a little bird photography when the opportunity presents itself. Right now I’m in between where social media is concerned. Looking for something more community oriented without so much ads, trolls, etc. maybe Bluesky but I’m still looking around.
@ flikr is a nice place in that respect
Russ: Here, -4C is considered a warm day. On cold days, I wear mitts big enough so that I can wear gloves inside them. I like shooting on days -30C and colder to get the steam coming off the buildings. An American friend of mine recommended the Ocoopa hand warmer, model OC-H01(PD). They have enough power so that you can use them to charge your camera also. Carry the hand warmer either inside your oversized glove/ mitt or in you coat pocket. I don't need them but a friend of mine does. they also work as a lens warmer to keep the fog off your lens. I made jackets for my cameras out of an old pair of wool pants. Works great. Carrying anything in your hands is bad for circulation, it slows down your blood flow to your fingers. I carry 2 spare batteries in a battery case that fits on my belt, it comes with me all the time, no matter what the temperature as I run my batteries down to they show red in the viewfinder before replacing them. Put your camera and lens inside a freezer bag before you take it inside. This will prevent moisture from condensing on it while it warms up. A great video again.
Great advice David, thanks, I think it was the wrist part of my gloves wear too tight, as my hands were ok after, not sure. Also it's not that cold here very often, it's good to hear from fellow photographers who deal with it regular.
Thank you so much for this beautiful video. I appreciate this so much more than when UA-cam creators tell me about the ‘5’ things that I am doing wrong or the ‘7’ ways that I could improve. This video just inspires.❤
@@MomentsFound lol That’s true! I’m also a bit bored of those kind of videos. I enjoy making these.
D700+35 f/2d is an amazing combo!
Yes, just made a few videos with fog and frost!
@RussandLoz yes I also watched and enjoyed both video today 😀
Excellent video yet again and fantastic
Enjoyed your video and lovely shots!
@@AAhmed_Alii thanks Ahmed 😊
Sadly i don't think there is a quick fix for cold hands in gloves, no matter how warm the manufacturer claims them to be. I live in norhtern Norway, and the only sollution is mitts in my experience. (i spend a lot of time outdoors...) Love the shots, you're making me fall in love with my D700 all over again 😍
@@GoDaagen Thanks, I’m sure it’s a lot colder where you are then. It has a nice look, but really any camera will do well in those scenes?
@@RussandLoz Any camera will absolutely do, thats the point i think. For my needs i have come to realize that the D700 is more than enough. There are definite conveniences with my Z6 III, but nothing i can't do with the D700. This way i will save a lot of money as well.
@ apart from video. I’m a hybrid shooter and love doing slow motion.
Hi Russ, another enjoyable video and some nice images, thanks for sharing. Re cold fingers, I wonder if you've got a touch of Reynaud's syndrome starting... or hopefully, just need some better fitting / warmer gloves. There are some specifc types of photographers gloves with little finger caps that might be of help, obviously not cheap, but anything that keeps you pushing the shutter button is often a good idea. .. and as for warming up, a fish finger buttie is hard to beat!
@@steveboys5369 Thanks Steve, I have tried a few different pair of gloves on but they just don’t seem to fit very well or flexible enough. I’ll have to look into photography specialist ones.
Thanks, what about printing 12mp photos?
I seldomly print anything really, but yes a good question really. I'm sure 12mp is enough?
I have 80cmx60cm prints, or there abouts, from my D700, they look fantastic. Of course viewing distance is important here, but i don't feel i need more resolution.
@@GoDaagen absolutely, i print as well from the d700 and its great , which makes me think about all this mp craziness. .
Re cold fingers/poor circulation. I suffer too and have found one part solution, if it is not as simple as too tight gloves. While walking between shots when you won't be using your camera make fists inside your gloves effectively making your gloves into mitts. Your fingers will soon thaw out although you do need a camera bag or strap instead of hand carrying. PS - The cold kills batteries. Keep spare batteries and as many devices as possible in internal pockets to benefit from body heat.
@@davidcrighton3431 thanks for the advice David, have you ever tried heated gloves or heat packs?
@@RussandLoz I've not tried heated gloves, they could be interesting. I've not tried packs either as they seem to be too cumbersome and from what I've seen are generally to be used in the palm, or back of hand, while it is my fingers that suffer. I'd welcome tried and tested solutions though. For reference, I can suffer from cold fingers while holding a cool steering wheel driving during summer.
Lovely shots! Thanks for the vid!
58 f1.4 the best lens for me
@@jojokung007 character? I did have that lens’s for a bit. Wish I had it for my d700
I have the Nikon Z 70-200mm 2.8. I have 2 issues with the camera lens. It’s very heavy and I don’t like the zoom ring at the end of the lens. I’m not going to sell it because it works great and it’s very sharp. ❤❤❤
@@tomgodzik8951 yes I’d agree with that, not sure why they put it at the end?
Thanks I enjoyed your review and look forward to more interesting reviews.
I like the size and weight of these Yongnuo lenses. Can you review the 35 and 50mm and let us know if the 85mm is just a one off in the range or if the others perform as well...
@@tomleearchitect we are currently reviewing the 35 F2 so stay tuned
@@RussandLoz I will be interested to see what you guys think. DXOMark rates the YN 35 f2 Z above the Nikon Z 35 f1.8 S, especially for sharpness. But I trust you guys more, especially for real world shooting.
@ well in our test the Nikon was sharper so I have nothing else to go on really. Unless our Nikon lens is a bad copy
There are no lens profiles currently for Yongnuo lenses sadly for DXO Photolab 8. My preferred editor.
I was shooting a waterfall with my x100t and the tripod slipped and the camera went for a dive, when I pulled it out it water was pouring out of it, I pulled the battery and sd card out and went into OMG mode drying off as much as I could, afterwards I sent it to Fujifilm for repair and they said there was nothing wrong with it... apart from a little bit moisture in the battery compartment PHEW... near miss
So sorry! What a bad feeling!
I would never have bought another! Sure well smashed but a real Leica, could be repaired.. Also what about insurance? I don't use wrist straps! Use both lugs! In the pitfalls of daily use, I use battered old cameras that are easily replaced.. Good Luck!
Loz-sorry for your loss and congrats on the upgrade. It sucks losing a “Limited Edition” especially a numbered one. Here I was warning you about the Osmo getting knocked out of your hands in the crowded streets of NY and this happened. And yeah, the floors in FAO Schwartz is unforgiving (and uncomfortable). Here’s to many years with the Q3.
Yeah the Osmo would have been cheaper 😬!
Years ago, I had a D3000 with the 55-200mm kit lens and coming home after its first “outing” at a football match, my wife dropped it getting out of the car. Fortunately, it fell on grass! My wife just froze and stared at me after her blunder (we’re still married 😂)
Hi Guys, I scrolled past your Vlog as the title made me wince. I did however scroll back and watch it. Ouch 😫 I feel your pain as the thought of that with my Q3 😢 I like you have never taken out insurance. 3 hours after watching your Vlog, I have insurance. Thank you 🙏 Enjoy your Q3
Glad to be of help! 😇
Dropped mine one time and fixed it for 1700€ 🤣
Curious: did you show off your YT influence creds to get the discount from Leica? Or did you introduce yourself as a "standard" customer?
@@brusselssprout1 we are too small on UA-cam to make any difference with manufacturers. So no mention of that no
Fantastic end of story - a discounted new leica Q3 upgrade .. Wow! Unfortunate front end of your story but we’ve all made those errors. But, terrific that Leica worked it out with discount offer. Don’t know how you had the will power to wait to take the first Photo shot. Looking forward to your impressions on the new Q3. This better trade off - than a certain someone’s heavy f2.8 400mm to haul around…. Kidding..
@@jonclark8271 lol. One day I’ll get the Z version which is much lighter but much more expensive! 😬
Not sure if PPA is in the UK, but it covers up to $10k (whooo that rhymed)
What a great decision! I’ve owned both and far prefer the Q3 with the exception of a couple small issues
What are the significant improvements? 🙂
I was always frustrated by the built-in lens correction on the Q2. Correction on JPEGs was excellent, but RAW files had an odd distortion. With the Q3 both JPG & RAW images have image distortion correction which match each other perfectly. Focus feels a bit faster. The lens quality hold up at 60Mp. Video is improved. However the battery drains faster when Connectivity is active. Viewfinder blackout is still too long. But set to 2-fps there’s no blackout???
Lovely display of logic whilst incorporating GAS! Lovely viewing.
Dropped a motorcycle in a car park in Sweden because I spotted a bird poop on the tank. Reached over to flick it and knocked it off the side stand. Broke my heart.
Feel the same about my Fujifilm X100F. Never going to replace with newer model unless fails. Fujifilm no longer fixes old cameras.
Sad and Happy for ya Loz. Only thing I have that falls into the "your a dumbass" category is the time I found a small dust particle inside my Stellervue astrophotography telescope and used a compressed gas can duster to completely screw it up. Luckily I sent it back and they took it apart and cleaned it all up. Enjoy your new toy.
I got excited about a moose and set my Nikon n90s on a tripod with a 500mm lens, but didn't tighten the Arca Swiss plate so when I let go of it it fell to the pavement. Everything seemed to be okay until that winter in the frigid cold of Wyoming when the camera started rewinding the film in mid-roll. I sent it to Nikon and they said the magnesium frame was broken and they gave me a discount on a refurbished F100. I theorize that in the freezing cold the metal contracted and put more resistance to the film advancing. It was all auto film advance and rewinding in those days.
I insure with Eversure here in the UK. Like you say, I won’t know until I claim, how good they are. Even if you just insure the Leica as an amateur, if you genuinely aren’t using it professionally.
Wouldn’t have broke if it was a Nikon!
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not, but I see lots of damage and broken Nikons in my local repair shop. 😂
Sorry mate, but seems you came out on top! Surprised that it was so damaged with a 1 meter (ish) fall. Careful with homeowners insurance rider. I had mine declined when I had a D80 kit stolen out of my car, they claimed I was selling my photos on line (Flickr), considered me a pro even though I didn't get most of my income from it.
thanks - will take note of that
Ouch how terrible! Smashing a Leica is a sign of luxury nobody wants.
I remember that video of the unboxing of the Q2 and I bought the Q3 later and Love it. Sorry about the Q2. You will get it back awhile later but I am wondering if they are going to use the Daniel Craigs Parts. Sorry. Cheers!
