4:19 how you adjust your curve with gumball and keep it "glued" to the circle? Mine just moves through it
I'm not sure, but it sounds like you may need to turn on edit points. If the edit points don't turn on automatically when you select the curve, then you may need to turn them on manually. To do that, select the curve, click on the curve tab, and then click on "Show object control points". If you have the default toolbars, it should be the 9th icon from the left. Then select the top control point. Then you can move just the top control point. Let me know if that helps.
@@webduncetv i selected the top point and it helps hahah, thank you!
Can you design me a ring like that with my logo in 3d file ? Dm me
Hi. So far as I know, there isn't a way to DM here at UA-cam, but you can message me at Facebook or X (Twitter). Will that work for you? Facebook: facebook.com/webduncetv X (Twitter): x.com/webduncetv
If a simple version with less on the tool bars would be something I'd keep on my phone, then transfer file to main edit program or use as a guide.. ?? Rhino sell specifically targeted modules, people, don't want/can't afford the whole package initially... *drawcise, exercise for drawings..??
It is kind of expensive. Some less expensive programs I eventually want to look into are Plasticity and Moi3D. I haven't had the chance or money to look into them yet, but you might want to (both have free trials). Also there's Blender, which is free, but very complicated and it uses a different type of modeling. I think there are some simplified 3d apps for phones, but I've never used any.
@@webduncetv build one..? For modelling and crafts with the added feature of using colour or part of a photo in the gallery. Form a hair brush to cogs for watches can be preliminary designed... fixed price and updates every 6 months, some free with some paid.. (£2, then £1 after)
@@webduncetv call it baby rhino..?
It's a good idea. Unfortunately, even though I can code a little bit, building a 3D app is outside my coding abilities...and my math abilities. By the way, it turns out that McNeel (the company that makes Rhino) does make a mobile version called iRhino3D, but it is only for iPhones and iPads, not for android. It's more of a 3D viewer, maybe as an easy way to present models to clients, and you can make notes on a view. It also does room scanning and augmented reality. They have a webpage all about it here: www.rhino3d.com/ios/
@@webduncetv I have some designs that I've made with with paper and bits, wanted to have then in a cad format then wax printed and the casted. I have a small vision of a jewellery line. I thank you for your answer, very generous..

Hi! I got the free version installed on Rhino 6 and it works great!! I recently installed Rhino 8.3 and again I tried to install the free version before getting the paid one, but when I run the script this is the message i got: Rhino.Runtime.Code.Languages.LanguageNotReadyException: Language "IronPython 2 @ 2.7.12 (mcneel.ironpython.python)" is not ready at Rhino.Runtime.Code.Code.CompileTryFinally(BuildContext context) at Rhino.Runtime.Code.Code.ExecTry(RunContext context, IPlatformDocument& doc, Object& docState) at Rhino.Runtime.Code.Code.Run(RunContext context) Is there any solution? Many thanks!
Hi. Sorry for the delayed response (I didn't get a notification for your comment for some reason). Sounds like a Rhino problem. My first thought is to update your Rhino. I'm using Rhino 8.10. On the menu across the top, click on Help > Check for Updates. You will get a dialog box. Even if it says your Rhino is up-to-date, click on the words "Check Now" and it should open your internet browser and take you web page that will either say that your installation is the newest available or that a new version is available with a download link. Click on the word "download" to download the latest update. And open the downloaded file to update Rhino. (I'm pretty sure you will have an update available.) One thing though, my stylized gem materials don't work correctly in the recent versions of Rhino8 (the Rhino devs say the material issue is a problem on their end, but I'm working on it, too). Let me know if this fixes it for you.
El mejor tutorial por lejos de todos! Mil gracias
Gracias. Es muy amable.
I don't even have that arrow. Jesus Christ, how I despise this shit UI of blender, worst one out of all the software I used
You may have accidentally flipped the menu to the bottom. If so, the little arrow will be in the bottom right corner of the 3D viewport and will be pointing up. If lots of stuff is missing, you may have accidentally activated Maximize Area (ctrl-spacebar) or Full Screen (ctrl-alt-spacebar). If that's the case, you can just press those keys again. Also, I think these settings are file-level. So if you create a new file, it shouldn't have this issue. So you could save your file, open a new one, and then import the objects from the first one (importing non-blender stuff is "importing", importing another blender file is called "appending"...so file > append). hope that helps.

You didn’t Finish it, there’s supposed to be a slit cover
Hi. I didn't know what you meant by slit cover at first. I looked it up just now. From what I can tell, slit covers are for zoetropes that use 2d animations. To be fair, mine isn't a good 3D zoetrope either, though. The physical 3D ones are usually timed to a flashing light to make the animation happen (the flashing light does what the slits do in the 2D ones, I think). The real ones are way cooler than my sad approximation here. Search for 3D Zoetropes on youtube to find lots of cool ones but here is one example. ua-cam.com/video/d_-j9uuaDOQ/v-deo.htmlsi=BkaQKemKx2A6U0Ry

While merging the array ,it’s getting deformed, can’t figure out what can be the issue.
My first thought is that your merge distance is too high. There is a little arrow next to the word merge. Click it to see the merge distance. It should be a very small number. My default value is 0.01. For this project, you could use an even smaller number, like 0.001 since we are basically removing duplicate verts. If it still gives you problems, try leaving merge unchecked, and I think the whole issue of merging will take care of itself when I have you merge by distance after applying the array and simple deform modifiers (in other words, I think I could have completely skipped the whole thing about activating merge in the array modifier...but I didn't realize it when I made the video). Let me know if that helps.
Please let me know... Which cad software is best for beginners for starting learning cad design... Please ans me
I don't feel qualified to answer that. I do not have any university training, and my only experience is with Rhino and Blender and my only work experience is in the jewelry industry. And I only ever worked at a single small business and learned on the job. I can't say which is best for a beginner, but here is an article that gives an overview of the different types of 3D software and the industries that use them. formlabs.com/blog/cad-software/
Superb! I guess I learned something from this. Where were you when I needed to understand lattices and deformations?! :)
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it!
excelent ! thanks so much ! God bless you !
Thank you. You, too.
Mine doesnt have the small arrows. :S I am running 4.2.
You may have triggered Maximize Area (ctrl-spacebar) or full-screen (ctrl-alt-spacebar). But if you triggered those, more than just the top bar will be missing (for example, the side panels will be gone, too). If that's what happened, you can press ctrl-spacebar or ctrl-alt-spacebar to toggle back to regular view. If you still have your side panels, then I have had this happen, too where the top bar disappeared and there were no arrows. It felt like some kind of glitch, and it seemed to be part of the file. IIRC, I saved that file, copied the objects I was working on with ctrl-c, created a new file and then pasted imported the objects (ctrl-v) into the new file...or maybe I used File>Append to bring the objects into the file. If that doesn't work, I don't know the answer. You can try one of the Blender communities that Blender's website links to. I have often used Blender Stack Exchange and Blender Artists. www.blender.org/community/ If you figure it out, feel free to let us know what helped.
been trying for an hour to move the line with the curve - they don't move together as you show in the video unless you join them, and the projected line is not adjusting in sync as you show. What am i missing?
Hi. I'm sorry you're having problems. I know it's frustrating on a long tutorial like this. I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like you need to turn history on. Type history into the command line and press Enter. You should see some options in the command line. And make sure that Record = Yes and Update = Yes. If they say No, just click on the options to toggle them to say Yes. And then press Enter. Let me know if that helps.
Nice speed run of a classic tutorial from the 00s. 😊
Thanks! It's fairly simple design-wise, but a nice result. It's a fun style of ring to design.
I am not getting a scale handle when I ctrl+shift on the bottom of the bezel? I think I might have a setting turned off?
The widget that has the arrows, scale handles, and rotation handles is call a gumball (only in Rhino, in most 3d software it is called a gimbal). Anyway, it sounds like the gumball might be off. Type gumball in the command line and there should be an option to turn it on. Let me know if that fixes it for you.
Hi there! I love your videos so much, I am trying to learn to make jewelry because my boyfriend is a stone setter. I was wondering if I am making this ring for an emerald cut stone, I can follow up the steps up until we are revoling the bezel around 360 degrees. The emerald cut is obviously not a circle, so I would I project the bezel around the stone?
Very cool! If you want something similar to this method, you would right-click on the revolve tool...that will activate the *rail revolve tool*. You would use the gem's outline as the rail. I think you might get better results if you slightly fillet the corners of the gem's outline first.
@@webduncetv Wow that worked fantastic! Your tutorials are seriously so helpful I feel like I have learned so much in such a short period of time. I would love to see a tutorial maybe for a stone set in a signet ring? I have this hexagonal sapphire I would love to set in a signet ring with a bezel but that seems a bit out of my skill set right now.

I think that is how you get into (and out of) full-screen mode. And, yes, sometimes you accidentally press that and you go into full-screen mode, and you have to press it again to get out of it. It can be very confusing if you didn't do it on purpose.
Never have i asked a question on UA-cam and got a whole tutorial as a reply, thank you. This is great!
Glad I could help. :)
I wish we could see what keys you are pressing, there are alot of shortcuts I don't know yet. Trying to figure out how you moved the line down.
Hi. Are you talking about when I move the little line at the bottom of the sizing circle (at timestamp 1:56)? If so, I click on the line to select it, the gimbal widget appears (Rhino calls the gimbal "the gumball"...to be funny, I think). I then click on the upward pointing arrow, which makes a text box appear. If I type a positive number, it will move up. Since I want it to move down, I entered a negative number (-1.2). Press enter to finish the action. If the gumball doesn't appear when you click on the line, type Gumball in the command line and press enter. Then click on "On" (also in the command line). I hope that helps, if you mean another line, if you could give me a timestamp I'll look at it.
Hi, I just bought your plugin and I can't get the bezel tool to work with a brilliant cut rectangular gem, does it only work with round stones or am I doing it wrong?
Hi. It only works on round gems for now. However, if you use the gem loader to bring in a gem, include the outline and you can make an under-bezel from that outline manually. In case you need it, I will try to get a video about how to do that up later today.

Thanks for the demos, it really helps. Are your videos based on Rhino 7 only ? I`m still on Rhino 5
I'm glad you're enjoying my channel. I have Rhino 8 now. So going forward, most of my Rhino videos will be made with Rhino 8. The only reason I upgraded to 8 is because I offer this jewelry kit, and I need to be able to support it in the current version of Rhino. As far as modeling goes, I think you can still generally follow along. I don't know about creating materials, though. My only experience with Rhino5 was via a jewelry CAD plugin called Matrix, and it came with pre-made materials. So I've never made materials directly in Rhino5.
You are amazing for explaining everything in details. I would love to see more such videos where I can learn more about blender

good, solid tutorials, although i do speedrun them to save time ;) just a note about printing; most slicers (Cura being the most popular) have something called vase mode (spiralise - with a zee if you're that side of the big water), that will print things as thin is a single extrusion - in my case 0.4mm - which is great for lampshades (LED only) - anything thicker than that will print just fine, but 3mm is a good standard for strength and to save time (3-4 hours is about average for an 80x80x150mm vase)
I'm glad you're enjoying the tutorials. Thanks for the info about printing!
another way to reset your scale you can type Ctrl+A and the 3rd option down is Scale - if you use keyboard commands often (which you absolutely should in Blender), it becomes a habit to regularly rescale your models
Ctrl-A, scale is what I normally do. Did I do something different in this video? (I can't remember, it's been awhile since I uploaded this).

How to install
The software is called Rhino. You can get it from www.rhino3d.com. It isn't free, but it does have a free 90-day trial.
Thanks. Another great tutorial. So that's how you do complex fillets in Rhino? Extract curves - make pipe - split - delete - blend open surfaces? Final result looks cool, especially with Emap with gold Matcap. But is it ok that all those isocurves of million joined surfaces looks like... trash? :) I'm used to SubD modeling, where topology matters. You see edges of your low poly - if they look bad and crooked, usually means your model is trash. Here I see hundreds of those isocurves on surfaces, which are not connected to each other, and to be honest not giving me any idea of possible problems... What's the use of them?
That is my general workflow when fillets don't work. However, often complex fillet situations will work with the fillet tool. As to your question about topology, I remember when I first got thrown into my jewelry design job, my only prior 3D experience was goofing around with Blender (and I had done exactly *zero* hard surface projects in my goofing around). So I get where you're coming from trying to switch from sub-d to this CAD stuff. With Rhino, you (almost) never have to worry about topology, and, in the rare cases you do, it's very different concerns than you have in sub-d programs. You do have to worry about "seams" and split edges (which are almost like hidden seams) and you can see me struggling with seams around 5:46. Surfaces that self-intersect are another common problem, which was why I had to remove the corners out of that pipe. I would say as a general rule, you do want to *try* to avoid overly dense isocurves, especially at the beginning of a project. But here, it really couldn't be avoided and it was a final piece and it worked, so it's all good. As to the use of the isocurves, I've never thought too much about it. We have a tool called flow along surface (general idea is you make a simple flat surface as a proxy for a complex surface and "flow" objects from the flat surface to the complex surface. You generally get distortion, but you might get even weirder than expected distortion if the complex surface has wildly uneven spacing between the isocurves, a problem that might require attention. Being able to quickly see the density or sparsity of the surface might be helpful. As well, they help you see the shape of the surface (there might be more important reasons for them, I never thought too much about it before). Just out of curiosity, and only if you don't mind me asking, what has you looking into non-sub-d 3D software?
@@webduncetv Thanks for you answers, you are really giving a lot of useful information. As for my interest in CAD/NURBS modeling... In short, I'm a freelancing modeler and my main tools are 3ds max and zbrush. I can model pretty much anything, organic or hardsurface, but recently I had few tasks that caused me troubles. One of them was jewelry, bunch of diamond rings for casting, with precise dimensions and requirement for clean, watertight meshes. In the end I made it with 3ds max, but If you know, SubD suck big time when it comes to booleans, like if you need to weld 20 repeating elements on a complex ring shank... It becomes a pain with Subd. So I thought maybe NURBS soft could help me with such tasks. Another reason was editability... A customer brought a furniture modeling task with CAD data input. When you import CAD model into SubD soft, it requires a lot of time to retopo everything, to be able to modify anything. So I thought maybe using Rhino I would be able to edit CAD models more easy, but from what I see now... Looks like CAD models are not really editable at all :( I thought NURBS allow keeping complex assemblies "procedural", so you can keep adjusting and modifying elements without worrying how they weld together in the end. Also I was modeling car bodies, and always wanted to try professional NURBS tools on that. With SUBD you need to be very smart and careful planning combos of smooth-flowing and hardsurface elements. But looks like NURBS are even more tedious.
very clear ! thank you !
do'h thank you
oh my... I'm trying to learn Rhino after years of Subd modeling (3ds max, Maya), and I always thought CAD programs have super advanced chamfers and fillets. But as I can see here it is quite opposite... 10 minutes on one simple fillet! First create helper lines, then make blend curves, then project on surface to visually control it, then wire cut, extract and delete, and make blend surfaces controlling the settings. Not gonna lie, I'm happy with the result, but the process is kinda crazy tricky. With subd it would be a matter of selecting edge loop and applying fillet and turbosmooth, even if I need to adjust some support loops it would take like 1-2 min. Anyways, great series and thanks for sharing your knowledge!
In a lot of cases, the filleting works nicely, even in complex situations, but then there's definitely times where you gotta get more manual with it, like in this case. Also, it would probably take 2 - 3 minutes if I wasn't explaining things. It's surprising how much time explaining adds to the process. And I don't know how the bigger name CAD program (like Fusion or AutoCAD) would handle this situation. Maybe it would be no big deal for them? But I don't know. I've never used Maya or 3ds Max so I can't make a fair comparison. My sub-d experience is mostly with Blender and beveling in Blender is simple for simple geo, but it can be a real pain if there is any serious complexity in the topology. There is a paid plug-in for Blender that most hard-surface modelers swear by called MeshMachine (about $45, I think) that appears to solve most of Blender's bevel problems for hard-surface modeling. I've never used MeshMachine myself, though. Rhino has it's own sub-d, btw. It used to be provided by an autodesk plug-in called T-Splines. I really liked T-splines and how it integrated with Rhino's own tools. But autodesk suddenly revoked the license some years ago and McNeel had to scramble to make their own in-house sub-d solution. I really haven't used it since they lost t-splines. The few times I did, I got frustrated and switched to Blender where I'm very comfortable with sub-d. I really need to look at it again in Rhino 8, but I just haven't had time.
Was going insane. Thank you!
I'm glad it helped!
Thanks! Great stuff. Very short, fast, and effective. Wish you a good health and productivity!
Thank you so much
Great tutorial by the way, you may be one of the only blender tutorial people that doesn't speedrun their tutorial ... Also, I've been using blender for a good 5 years now, at least, and I think there's stuff I learned in this tutorial. with optix denoising I've not really needed to go above 1024 samples. And of course the downside using optix Is that you need a cuda enabled GPU? [So anything with rtx in its name or an Ada Lovelace professional card
Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. And I've been using blender for like 12 or 13 years and I didn't know about optix. I think I did hear about it years ago and just never looked too deeply into it and then quickly forgot about it. Fortunately I have an NVIDIA gpu so it works on my system and, MAN, it's fast and seems ways less stressful on my gpu. My gpu usually sounds like a jet engine whenever I render in cycles for then entire render, but with optix it's quiet until the last second and revs up just for a moment while finalizing the render. I'll be able to use Cycles for much more now. Thanks!
@@webduncetv optix is the denoiser That is used in Real-Time Ray tracing on Nvidia gpus... I on that subject I don't know Blender doesn't have DLSS support... Open image denoiser works on both Nvidia and AMD gpus; and I've heard that it's supposed to be better but I've not had any better results with it... And I would also like to note that I probably only have to go to the 1024 samples because I render at 2K and any really less than that is not enough data for the denoisers...
