The Stages of Awakening - Malika & Davidya Buckland (March '23)
To start, she asks me how I experience source. To explain, I talk about the unfolding here and how the relationship with source has evolved. She then asks me to explain the stages and I review them briefly. Then we did a transmission, what I’d call amplifying presence. Her dog Angel chimed in there. And then we chatted a bit more.

Do you think awareness can develop in prior lifetimes elsewhere? I honestly don't think I've been human before, but I came in with a degree of 'refined perception' and an interest in this type of thing.
Yes. Both awareness and refinement are cumulative from prior lives, even if other types of life. (Ayurveda talks about this) The refinement may suggest a more refined type of life. Some come here due to the rapid evolutionary potential, but it's not always easy. There can be some karma and maturing that happens before it kicks in though. If you'd like to know more of your soul's history, a good Akashic records reader may be helpful.
are ''physical pain'' the same or does it only work for emotional healing?
Our discussion was mainly about processing unresolved emotions/ energy. Physical pain is the body signaling that something is wrong. This may be due to a physical issue, or it could be a side-effect of suppressed trauma. Somatic (body) modalities are effective to treat the second. I'm studying that now. Often, our trauma is well hidden to protect us from it. But with the right approach, we can follow the threads to allow it to release.
What causes my glimpses to feel so solipsistic? Seeing all the people i love as imaginary dream characters that never could have loved me back really broke my heart… its like mourning something that never was
Part of the process is transformation of our mechanism of experience. For most people, the tamas guna (inertia) is dominant and it all seems real. But as Rajas (transformation) becomes dominant, the world can take on that dream-like, illusory quality. This is helpful for letting go of binding attachments but it can lose it's charm and can sometimes feel meaningless. However, as the process continues, that transformation leads to a shift into sattva (clarity). Then the world comes to be seen as Lila, the divine play. A higher octave of the heart can also open, leading to much deeper values of love and compassion. In other words, it's a phase. Don't take it personally. The world and our relationships have a purpose and are an intimate part of the unfolding. We're in this together. In later conversations, Andrew explore this.
Really enjoyed this ❤🙏 Thanks Andrew ! Thanks David ! 🙂

I like how David can relate to very different levels of undertanding!
Sri David what book do you recommend for Patanjali yoga sutra? Why don’t you write a book under creative commons
I'd recommend "Maharishi Patanjali Yoga Sutra", translated by Thomas Egenes. I have written a translation and commentary on the Yoga Sutra. Just reviewing Shankara's commentary for any other key points, and the usual editing, page layout, etc for publishing. It will be out at some point. Creative Commons is great for sharing but it takes broader distribution to get a book seen.
It's somewhat ironic that some spiritual circles insist on no stages. Consciousness shows itself to evolve with respect to the only thing it perceives, itself with moments being unaware of itself. The teaching of enlightenment ultimately shows to not have anything to do with gaining greater awareness given we cannot be in thought and awake at the same time.
Not sure what you mean here. The very nature of waking up is for consciousness to recognize itself (hence Self Realization). This is a permanent shift. Certainly, clarity will vary over time but consciousness becomes the container of all experiences. Thoughts, perceptions, emotions, etc come and go while awake consciousness remains awake. Never overshadowed. Certainly there can be foreground/background shifting but there is a permanent continuity of awareness, 24/7. If thought it overshadowing, thats not quite it yet.
@ around 6:00 min give or take a second you grabbed me in a sense. It's strange as hell that something soooo fundamental can just attach literally to enough aspects to generate an automatic ego by some measure or another.
It's the nature of the intellect to distinguish self from other. Mind then takes that I-sense and builds stories up about who we are, what we like and don't like, what we should or shouldn't do, and so forth. The key is in recognizing our deeper nature and that these stories are not who we are. When we see through them and recognize the universal Self, it can feel like an awakening. We discuss some of the variations here and in later conversations when we go into each stage in more detail.
Driving for an hour down a remote freeway and can't recall that hour to save myself. This is analogous perhaps to the realized difference in God conscience from the witness.
Hi Avant I see your point but acting from habit in autopilot isn't quite the same as witnessing. Witnessing is uninvolved but very conscious. God Consciousness adds refined perception and an awake heart and thus we see the hand of the Divine in the world around us (hence the name). We go into more detail in later conversations.
@@davidya Thank you. I have been listening to those conversations and am going to get your book. I just got one written by Dan Brown called the Great Way. As well as listening to Jiddu Krishnamurti and many others in the Vedic arena, Buddhism, non duality and others. I haven't had any chance to speak to anybody in my world yet about these things. I can't seem to explain it well. Something shifted about a year ago after a very very difficult experience and since that time I seem to be drawn back time and time again to the simple thought of I Am that seems to only be possible in the current moment. As well as a huge sense of relief from what was troubling me. There is a Buddhist center in the desert where I live in southern Arizona by the Mexico border I thought of going too but have been apprehensive. It seems anything one grabs onto has the potential to be one more thing to overcome like I'm a Buddhist or I'm a monk or really I'm anything. Anyway thank you again it really helps having honest selfless conversations about these things from folks like you guys. I go by Nick.
@@citizenenak Yes, it can take time to find people on a common path. Some find them in online forums, although those can be more conceptual debate. When difficult karma resolves, there can be an opening to a larger perspective. I had the experience myself recently. The Internet has made vast swaths of knowledge available to us and it's fun to explore. But at some point, it's good to focus on a chosen path as our primary study. Otherwise, you can fall into conceptual quagmires of apparently conflicting ideas and it's all mind. Spiritual progress is more effective with a regular effortless practice that takes us beyond the mind. Then we're culturing the direct experience of our deeper nature. And yes, labels are concepts that have no other value than communicating an idea. We can get caught by labels. But don't get caught in the avoidance of labels either. That has a similar effect. Just remind yourself a label isn't the reality and go deeper. What's behind it? You're welcome. That's their point. 🙂
Great talk
Amazing. So Helpful. Thank You

Yes, love does us. No effort just there. . .
Experiencing this moving around of devotion more and more: seems related to what one's attention is on.
. . ."love the one your with," lol
Right. Love is flowing attention. At first from and to, then within itself, then within Herself.
@@davidya This seems to correlate with "Brahma devours everything." Noticing this the past few months. Last weekend at a retreat, It appears that UC completed. We shall see. . .

@@loreyhobbs1112 Right - that would be before "within itself" where the flow is also a recognition of being or becoming.

Wait what? How do I talk to the bugs? I’ve got Lubbers tearing up my garden . Do I have to be enlightened to do that?
It's not so much that you talk to the bugs but to the laws of nature managing them. This needs sufficient refined perception so you're aware of and can communicate with them, and a respectful attitude so you can get results. Refinement can arise before or after awakening and depends some on prior life development. It develops through exposure to finer levels, purification, and soma, a refined chemical the body produces when transcending. In other words, it develops over time with suitable spiritual practices. So it's not a near term fix to your hoppers but rather a side-effect and benefit of spiritual development. At some point, a profession will develop of people with the skill to help, much as energy healers and people who talk to animals are developing now. Our potential is far greater than has been common.
@@davidya thank you for answering my question. I have one more . I see very clearly without a doubt that I am not an individual. I see oneness . When I first realized this I got a little depressed although I didn’t admit it to myself and I lost interest in everything. I have adjusted and seem to be gaining more interests again . But what next? There can’t be anything next can there ? If I’m not the do-er what else can be done ? I’m certainly not enlightened.
@@swhite8381 "Where I'm at" questions can't be answered through short comments. But broadly, it's not unusual to have clear experiences before we become. So there can be personal recognitions of our deeper nature prior to the actual shifts in being. This "seeing" can be deep enough to see through some of the personal construct and thus collapse a lot of old motivations. That can leave the person feeling discombobulated. This eases some with integration of the changes. There's a great deal more to unfold as the video discusses. For example, having the deeper flows of life come alive within us and recognizing what is actually doing, something the first answer touched on. It's also useful to have a sensible understanding of enlightenment. It's not an instant illumination into perfection but rather a process, much like all human development. It's common for people waking up to immediately notice how normal and ordinary it is - because it's natural. And yet, it creates a platform for a great deal more to unfold on.
@@davidya thank you for your response
Beautiful conversation. I will listen to it again. Hilarious moment around 34:00 when I said out loud to the computer "Andrew, what are you DOING?" and one minute later David said "If you come to it with the mind, you'll ask why is he talking funny?" Hahaha. Laughing with both of you, from different perspectives! Thanks again and please keep these conversations coming. I love them.
beautiful story about Shankara! Thankyou for this reflection
I love you guys so much! I’m so glad you guys get together and make these. David, I hope I get a chance to ask you questions the next time you go live, but in the meantime, I’ll just drop it here. If you don’t have time for it, or you don’t see it, that’s okay too. I had a private session with Dorothy, based on your recommendation, and she said I have some tears in my astral body, and some exploitative entities have gotten in. I think she said maybe I brought them into this incarnation with me, or she might have been referencing something else. In any case, there is something wrapped around my “cord of light” that I can feel, and it’s been extremely tight for at least 4 years. Do you know how it got there, or if I can do anything about it? Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom publicly ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Andrea You can contact either of us through the links in the Description above. Actually, such things are pretty common. The shadows of unresolved experiences can create gaps in the light bodies. The darker energy attracts entities who like that flavour, then they try to encourage more, compounding it. Cords don't get tighter but our contractions and resistance can. Often they've been there awhile, then we become conscious of them. But all this is just another way of saying there's some resistance that's become self-reinforcing. Anger, for example. Some people can see or feel the mechanics of it. That can make clearing it easier but isn't required. Learning the basics of energy healing aka emotional clearing is really helpful. For example, search Healing Algorithm on my site. For the harder nuts, we may find a healer like Dorothy is valuable for helping clear what's been discovered. Seeing is the first step but once conscious, it's a lot easier to release once we know how.
@@davidya okay, thank you very much 🙏🏻❤️
This is a reposting of this video as the original had a glitch in playback.
"qualitative consistency", that's an interesting terminology... (20:00)
Right, Navaneet. The way I frame it, there is a consistent underlying process with a lot of surface variation. For example, it's the same Self waking up in all cases. Yet there are 5 typical ways the first shift is recognized. And innumerable experiences that may come along for the ride. As a result, it becomes important to distinguish the awakening itself, the experiences that came with it, and the purification it triggered. If we confuse them, we can miss what awoke and fall back in the mind or chase what is temporary.
Thank you both, beautiful 🙏
So beautiful and precious. Thank you David and Andrew ❤️🙏🏼💛
Wonderful discussion. Thank you 😊❤🙏❤😊 "I vow to save all sentient beings" Yes! Expand infinitely. So sweet.
Lol: no breaks are given
Well, that's not entirely true but in the current time, things are doing a lot of purifying so it often feels pretty constant. It will ease at some point. :-)
@@davidya True. Definitely noticing the collective waves. Here is does appear to go deeper and older as it cycles around, and when there is resolution followed by a new lightness and more more subtle knowingness, which I can't seem to describe. This spring had been and continues to be exceptional.
@@loreyhobbs1112 Yes, it is going older and deeper which does indicate progress in the collective. Some of the emotional tone has become pre-verbal, for example like a vague but strong angst. To describe takes the mind. The new or the very subtle or the unclear are harder to give words to. Lovely. If the collective flowers the way the personal did, we'll see some remarkable times... :-)
@@davidya Yes indeed! What a time to be here on planet earth!
enjoyed the conversation. thanks.
Is this of hindu text or bhudhism? Atman or Anatma.
ParaBrahman comes from the Vedic tradition, prior to Hindu or Buddhism. ParaBrahman is prior to Brahman which is prior to Atman. This conversation was the last in a series on the 7 stages of enlightenment. The first is here: ua-cam.com/video/6EoORADV-LI/v-deo.html

Thanks Andrew and Davidya for voicing the deeper currents we are all witnessing and living through. Much sifting and shifting in our collectivist midst. Crucial to take this impersonally, and when it feels personal as occasionally it will, observe that surfacing and allow it to arise and to complete and evaporate into the one ocean of radiance which is This we share and This we are. Lest we forget the indigenous people and their understanding of ultimate reality. You could rightly say these perspectives have inhabited these lands (the americas) for thousands of years.
What do you think of Alice Bailey's version of the Yoga Sutras? Are you familiar with it ?
I read some of her work back in the 70's so I don't recall specifically. Taking a quick look online, I'm reminded she was strongly influenced by the common understanding of the day (concentration, control) and quiet liberally interpreted through the theosophical lens. She further adds issues like translating samadhi as contemplation. Contemplation is not the means of union.
Absolutely superb 🙏💝🌞

What I would like is a device which shows precisely how much repressed energy there is in your system and a button that you can press to release it. Press once to begin the release process, press again to stop it if it gets too painful.
That would be lovely but it actually wouldn't help much. As long as the habits of repression are in place, releasing buildups would only be temporary. They'd just build up again. It's much more effective to learn to release and then learn how we repress and release those tendencies. This is an experiential process. No quick fixes.
@@davidya Fair point! Perhaps we could add a second button which releases the habits of repression ;)
@@TH-nx9vf There is no need for that. That "stuff" is actually the fuel for the evolution of the soul. It is nothing to "get rid off". It is like undigested soul food....sure, some of these energies quickly flow through awareness but others like split of parts of the psyche really need to be welcomed back, digesting the overwhelm that comes with them bit by bit while holding them and giving them space. By that deeper and deeper layers of realization of the souls journey towards source occur and human and soul maturation unfold. :-)

Another area where one sees a “rationalizing away” of responsibility is in the contemporary stoic philosophizing. It’s a huge problem across the board in America culture right now.
Agreed, Matt. Whenever the mind is placed at the center and concepts rule, life goes out of balance. Mind is a very useful tool but makes a poor master.
