    You're using a butane torch not a mapp gas torch. Butane torches are pretty useless for this job, get a mapp gas torch as they get MUCH hotter.

      Yeah the Butane torch is useless, i will probably end up getting an oxy-acetylene set up as a used torch with canisters are cheaper in SA than a new Mapp gas kit

      I tried to fix it myself bur ended up ruining the rim in a hydraulic press, you can try to heat up the rim where its bent and beat it back in to shape or you van look for a place that repairs rims. The replacement i got was a no name brand and fairly affordable so there is always that option as a last resort.

      I can’t recall what the stock jetting was. I have also significantly modified my bike since this video with a ported cylinder, high compression head and a performance pipe. The reeds installed in this video are also incorrect, you need the Boyesen 654 (wr200) reeds. The current jetting is as follow: Pilot: 48 Main: 152 Air screw: 1.5 turns out Needle: second clip from the top Boost jet: closed I also ride at 4,393 ft, your elevation will also determine what you need to run.

It’s almost like a 300, but doing very well in the woods, because it is so nimble. I read your comment about the pipe, and the stock pipe was always my concern about silly sound and poor performance. I got a Kamax 250 and it took me 2 Months to sort out, where to find Spare Parts and how to tune some stuff. Tomorrow will be my first Test Ride, and afterwards will beging the Stage 2 “Upgrade”. One more thing is in my Mind. What did you do about the Powervalve Settings, since many Riders complain this issue causing a lack of low bottom end? Your Experience is very appreciated❤

    I am looking at getting a KT250. I like good value for money, and not looking at this bike because it is half the price as the main brands, but if it is a good value for the price. any bike can have issues as you ride it. Overall, what do you think of this bike and do you think it is worth buying vs the main brands if you had to buy a new bike again? I have seen some videos and know that it will actually climb pretty well, and i understand that it may not make the peak power as the main brands. But no one really talks about the suspension or other parts that may fail outside of normal issues from crashing or hitting rocks.

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      Hey thanks for commenting. I think the KT250 is a great option for the price point. Most of the issues i have encountered were caused by damage on the trail, not doing pre ride checks, incorrect aftermarket parts. The only issue my KT has is the power valve seems to get stuck in the closed position. It seems like the servo motor over rotates it for some reason. It does not seem to be a common issue though. If you are planning to ride rocks i would advise getting a shift shat brace, as they tend to bend, causing shifting issues. Link for shift shaft brace: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005281871212.html?gatewayAdapt=isr2glo Link for engine covers: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006618591892.html?spm=a2g0n.productlist.0.0.143b6c09igvMQu&browser_id=1a5200b2617f426f9226803d6c77a3fa&aff_platform=msite&m_page_id=vqrvhljtpwcawaee18fa1267b9cbb38fcb11df687c&gclid=&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21ZAR%21364.95%21215.32%21%21%21145.00%2185.55%21%402101e06117163956091083585e31a2%2112000037840264084%21sea%21ZA%210%21AB&isseo=y&algo_pvid=dcc3f1fb-a01a-424a-90f5-0d30e281a7db&_universallink=1&m_page_id=vqrvhljtpwcawaee18fa1267b9cbb38fcb11df687c The suspension is pretty good, its mostly based on showa suspension. There is a issue with the forks where a seal on the inner chamber fails then the forks sag a bit, but any decent suspension shop should be able to fix it when it eventually gives out. With different reeds and a gpx/ktm 200 pipe the bike runs well, i am able to keep up with any 250/300/350 on the trails. In technical terrain you just have to load the flywheel a bit more and work the clutch. The e-start is also super reliable, i have only had to kick the bike a couple of times when i left the ignition on and drained the battery. Lastly the motor is based on the yamaha wr200/dt230 platform so if you dont want to use chinese parts you can maintain the bike with yamaha parts. After heatseizing my bike i rebuilt the top end with wiseco/yamaha parts.

    Would you have any idea why I have no adjustment on my carb? I have a 91 kdx 250 it fires up no problem and runs pretty good but it won't idle and when I try to use the adjustment screws to get it to idle down or up it does nothing it just continues to die at idle. Could that seal you replaced possibly give me this problem?

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      Are you adjusting the top idle screw or the bottom air screw? I assume you are struggling even with the choke off? If the bike starts easily but does not want to idle i could point to having a rich fuel mix. What pilot jet do you have in? The jet block gasket can definitely add to the issue as it lets unmetered fuel through. With how old the bikes are i would go ahead and replace it anyway, its cheap and easy enough to do. Then i would try to run it again. If you still struggle start leaning out the pilot jet until you have a stable idle with the bottom air screw about 1.5 to 2 turns out (turn it all the way in first)

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      As i mentioned with the air screw the sweet spot should be between 1.5 and 2 turns out. If you need to screw it out more than 2 to 2.5 turns to get the bike to idle well your pilot jet is too rich. If the bike constantly idles high when warm and you have to turn the air screw in to 1.5 to 1 turns it means your pilot jet is too lean. In this process you also have to adjust the top idle screw a bit. I hope this makes sense.

    • @shainwhite405
      @shainwhite405 3 місяці тому

      @MudAndDustMoto unfortunately I'm newer to working on the bikes but I'm learning a lot as I go I just haven't learned anything about carbs yet I get what you're saying I just don't know what you mean when you say righer or leaner I assume that's the size of the jet I just don't know where to start or how to know what size jet to start with but you've definitely given me enough to go off of ill take some time and watch a couple videos about jetting a carb thank you I appreciate your time

    How many hours or kilometres does it take to break in the rf250

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      There is no specified break in procedure. Break ins are highly debated On my bikes i do 2-3 static heat cycles with throttle blips then 2 easy riding hours (or how ever long the first ride is), oil change, and then i rip it.

  • @krazed0451
    @krazed0451 3 місяці тому

    IIRC, my WR200 had a bracket on the reeds that prevented them opening too far. Good to see your bike up and running again :-)

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      Thanks, i was also relieved that it was a simple fix. The stock reeds have different rev plates. But with the boyesen reeds they recommend using the supplied rev plates. Im confident that the issue was due to the 6130 reeds being a bit too large.

      @@MudAndDustMoto If you can get hold of a WR manual it covers indexing the valve and leaving a small amount of slack, I never had issues with cables after years of ownership. Hopefully yours was just a manufacturing fault and the replacement cable lasts.

      @MudAndDustMoto 3 місяці тому

      @@Letsdoittv67 as with any bikes there are pre ride checks and regular maintenance that needs to be performed. If you adhere to those your bike should be reliable. As i explained in the video this issue was caused by using the incorrect reeds. Overall the KT250 seems to be just as reliable as my friends Japanese and European bikes. Dirt bikes do require a lot of maintenance regardless of what brand so people should not be under the illusion that parts components will last forever.

    How good is the rf 250 for hard enduro I’m scared to buy one and it doesn’t last long

    • @MudAndDustMoto
      @MudAndDustMoto 4 місяці тому

      The RF250 we had was very reliable. we only had one mechanical issue caused by some impact damage, We did not notice the selector shaft had bent and that eventually damaged the shift forks in the gearbox. Other than that the RF ran great, are you a beginner rider or returning to riding? My personal opinion is that a twostroke will always be better suited for hard enduro vs a fourstroke, but if you are starting off and looking for something affordable you cant go wrong with the RF250
