Flyhawk 1/700 Royal Navy seaplane diorama and accessories part 1

Hi all, quick look at progress to date. Here's the nice little seaplane diorama from Flyhawk and a look at the photo etch versus plastic options. Also, included a USN 20 ton crane from Alliance Modelworks - this looks really good in my opinion. And a selection of tiny ships from the venerable 1/700 tugger set by Aoshima or Tamiya of whoever. I would also really appreciate it if you could subscr...

Hi all, here's an in box review of this little ready made diorama from Flyhawk. Looks great. Premium parts. Choice of photo etch or plastic parts. What I was wondering does anyone know if this diorama is based on a real seaplane base? If so, where is it? Anyone supplying correct answers can award themselves a tasty biscuit. Five star models and Tamiya 1/700 scale tugger set
Переглядів 4032 місяці тому
Hi all, very quick video unboxing to show the contents of the Five Star Models upgrade set for the Tamiya 1/700 scale tugger set. I've had this little maritime diorama kit (the Tamiya bit) for about 20 years and not done much to it. Made two little ships and set it aside. Maybe now time to resurrect it when I finish the Eduard 1/48th scale Sopwith Camel that I'm currently working on. Hope you f...

Hi all, here's my latest effort. I'm posting it now as I'm likely to be busy over the next few weeks with not much chance to do any work or upload anything. I'm still in my "building Eduard 1/48" biplane phase. I am enjoying it. Also, in the past I've had a lot of issues with the sound on my videos. This time thanks to Davinci resolve they've introduced new audio tools "voice isolation" and "Di...

Fokker D.VIII in 1/48 by Eduard, profipack

Hi all, here's my finished effort at building this little aeroplane. Immensely frustrating, very difficult build, fiddly and really enjoyable. Also, it does say on the Eduard website that this kit is discontinued, wonder why? lol. I did think of binning this build at various points but I kept on at it and I'm happy with the result; warts and all. Hope you like it. Don't forget to like or not, c...
Update: Eduard 1/48 World war 1 planes and an ICM 1/48 pilot - fun
Переглядів 2764 місяці тому
Hi all, quick update as to what I'm doing. Been building some Eduard 1/48 scale WW1 aircraft that I either bought ages ago (Albatross bought in 2018) or that's a really old kit (Fokker DVIII) that I bought for a fiver (£5) at the London Toy and Model show at Haverstock school last year (2023). The decals and some of the plastic in these kits seems to have become a little brittle or easy to brea...
US Cavalry Sergeant - Romeo models, 54mm mounted figure
Переглядів 2374 місяці тому
Hi all, quick diversion from the small scale (1/72 Roman, 28mm Victrix Medieval knight) type figures I've been looking at recently. I saw this figure a while ago and thought it looked great and so I've got myself a copy. I do like Romeo models figures and this one is no exception. Small quibbles are - no instructions and moulding quality could be improved. But apart from that I'm really looking...
Victrix knights, the Green knight and Linear-a Romans
Переглядів 1 тис.4 місяці тому
Hi all, bit of a painting update after the summer hiatus. Some Victrix 28mm Medieval knights. Then some Linear-a 1/72 scale Romans. In my opinion, all of these figures are top quality. Difficult to do them justice with paint and brush Had some help from various decals and transfers plus some hand painted shields, horses and a knight (the Green knight). Hope you like it and see you next time.
Victrix medieval knights - some painting and adding transfers/decals

Hi all, starting to paint up these lovely little 28mm Victrix figures. Also, applying the little big men transfers and some decals. Used some Games workshop citadel contrast paints on the horses. Didn't look so good in reality but seemed to look quite good on the camera. Strange. Hope you like it.
Victrix 28mm Medieval knights - first look and some assembly
Переглядів 2 тис.6 місяців тому
Hi all, here's a first look at these Victrix 28mm medieval knights. I saw an unboxing video of these and thought "must have those". They're great little figures. Full of life and character. Wonderfully animated. Hardly any flash or mould lines. The chain mail is particularly well done. Only real downside is they're a bit complex to put together. With correspondingly lengthy assembly times. But ...

Great modeling work! Nice scale for dioramas.
Super job! ❤
scary small
Junk
It was a good idea and maybe it could be made to work but not at the moment.
Such an impressive scale! Excellent work!
Thanks Phil. These little pieces are a real challenge to the eyes. But I'm still recommending this little kit. I like to see others give it a go. In particular different paint schemes for the seaplanes.
Awesome kit - looks like part of RAF Calshot.
@@allaboutkalergi5012 interesting.
wow those peices are so small great video keep the great work up
I quite like the kits of Five Star. The only downside is that their instructions are lacking, which can be a bit of a bother with their more difficult kits.
You're absolutely right! The instructions are really just pictures of the finished etch as applied with a few labels identifying the different pieces. Imagine if a model kit just showed the finished product with some of the parts labelled! It'd be almost impossible to finish it. Still, it does give a great result if you persevere with it.
@@creation1962 I've also bought quite a few of their own model kits. Most of them are Japanese auxiliary ships like minelayers, sweepers, submarine chasers, tugs, survey ships, and salvage ships. The lacking instructions are a bit annoying at times, but still manageable. However, I also bought their kit of the escort carrier Shimane Maru and there it becomes a bit of a problem. They only really show you how to bend the AA guns, which isn't adequate at all.
Very nice!
I love these little ships from the 1/700 Aoshima/Tamiya.. or whatever Tugger set. Tiny little projects that can be kept tiny or expanded exponentially.
@@creation1962 Yeah, when I get some money, I really want to try out a 1:700 ship, I'm thinking a ww2 german destroyer.
Don't forget that the bayonet is in its sheath and should not be mounted on his musket.
Good point (no pun intended).
Connect a power cable per each individual PCI connector. and keep the plate RIGHT DO NOT TIGHTEN THE SCREW THAT HOLDS THE PLATE SO MUCH
Thanks for the advice. This was a while ago and I've moved on to other setups since then but I'm sure that there are others who will get the same error who may benefit from your advice. Cheers.
This is nice, don't beat yourself up about the photo etch, it looks good to me.
Excellent review,I've never seen a diorama in a box, again great review
Thanks.
Looks great
Thanks.
Is there supposed to be any sound on this video. There's a feint muttering sound but no clear sound at all, other channels / vids are fine.
Hi Ed, just had a listen back and the sound seems fine to me. So not sure what's going on there. Hope you can still enjoy the video.
Interesting kit. I looked it up. It's made by Shizuoka Model Teaching Material Cooperative. Originally it came out in 1975, but that boxing is from 1992.
Splendid little ships!!
Thanks Phil. Very much appreciate the support.
Great build I'm looking forward to you rigging the model. It's something that's always put me off WW1 aircraft.
Impressive details!!
🖐👍👍
Well done!😊
Thanks JC. It was a very enjoyable build even though I also found it tricky.
That's a very clean build, and it looks very nice....I really like the wood grain on the prop....good paint job on the pilot! Liked & subbed
Thanks for your kind comments. I did go on and weather the kit a little after I made the video but I didn't want to hide those super complex and colourful decals.
Pilot + plane = 😍😍👏👏👍👍
Thanks Phil, much appreciated.
Nice update, the pilot is superb!
Looking good
this is a set I missed out on.... I need a sprue for my own trireme and bireme and more project. I was hesitant to go with them because of them being resin, but I guess they turned out pretty good. Actually yes... shockingly good... more detail than many larger scales. I do think the one mini is holding a looking glass of some kind. I think with Roman ingenuity could be more than likely... they had more than we give them credit for when it comes to hydraulics, optics, and moving things.
Can't say enough good things about these figures. Better than many figures in larger scales. Get some if you can. I'd like to see some other people painting them up just to see how good they can make them
and where do you get the transfers/decals?
I believe they are from Little big men studios thru Victrix site
Splendid details on your Romans!👍👍
@@philRminiatures thanks Phil. These figures are superb. Recommended to everyone.
Great update mate
@basicminiaturepainting thanks. Always good to get back to a bit of painting after a break. Good for the soul.
Please speak up!
OK Stephen. I do go into whisper mode when I'm working then I have to turn the sound way up so that you can hear me then all you can hear is my breathing in between the talking. Will try and take that on board.
G'day to you Sir! Talking about bringing back Memories, I built this way back in '77,I was with an Ancients War Gaming Club and at the time this was Perfect to use, several of the Guys built one so we had around 5 on the Board, Man that was a life time ago! Perth West Aust.
Thanks for that tale from down under Paul. Must have seemed like a great build back then and still very good nowadays. Thanks for your comment and all the best.
Excellent review and build
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. They're great little figures.
Just had to subscribe as it's the same kit I'm working on,you're doing some great work, looking forward to your future content
Great little figures. I'd recommend them to anyone. Be great to see how others get on given there's so many opportunities to really go to town on the painting and decaling.
Hey Thermaltake you JUST lost a sale of the same PSU on Amazon.
Nice beginning (superb brown/red shades) and promising decals!
@philRminiatures thanks Phil. Really appreciate the support. Looking forward to getting into some detailed painting of these great little figures.
I was looking to do a diorama of bannockburn .I think you’ve just sold me ,on these knights mate .Just need the Scot’s now lol . Great vid .
@@middleagedmtber2164 they are great little figures. There's enough scope on them with the barding and the colourful battle dress to just indulge your painting skills. Best of luck with the diorama.
How would you use the transfers? They need a white background. So you would have to paint the trappers white, put them on, then paint around them using the exact same background colour as on the transfer edge??
Hi Jason, for the shields no problem, paint one side white and use the little big men transfers as standard. For the horses yes, again paint them white and use the transfers. Then repaint the rest of the horse furniture to whatever way you want it. There's a guide on the Victrix website about how the transfers look when in place. Or, what you can do is copy the little big men transfers onto decal paper (scan them on a printer, mess around with the scanned image if you want, then print them on the decal paper either white or clear background). If you do the decal thing you can put the decals on any colour horse you want no need to paint around them as they cover whatever you put them on. As long as you're using them for your own use this should be fine.
Can you still by Historex, if so where?
Hi Michael, yes you can still get Historex. I'm not sure where you are but here in the UK I buy stuff from Historex agents who are based in Dover who have an online shop and they do deliver world wide; just search for their name. Also things come up on auction sites occasionally i.e. Ebay. Hope that helps.
they look really good!
Very nicely done! I've just picked up these figures with some others and I'm having a look around to see how they go together, they look superb in the camo.
Thanks Martin. Yeah they turned out good in the end. Best of luck with yours.
Morning sorry to bother you I'm enjoying your videos and I'm interested in the Napoleonic Wars figures how do you get your flags downloaded where do you get the program and dose it cost thanks
Thanks for your comment and questions Scott. I've used the flags from books- photographed and then edited in the free Paint program that comes with Windows. Or also use photoshop. Also sometimes just get flags off the Internet. Also went to the National army museum in London, they have lots of flags and other stuff. Also the Guards museum in London also has lots of flags/standards. I make the videos with DaVinci resolve. There's a free version and a pay for version. You can also use Resolve to edit photographs. Hope that helps.
@creation1962 what's the best book to get there I appreciate you getting back to me I have started modelling to help with mental health issues I have PTSD for the military
@user-qu9kh1md8b I don't think there's a single book. There's books on military history and there's books on modeling. Sometimes they overlap. The osprey series of books is generally very good. Have a search on Amazon and look for whatever has the highest rating from buyers. It's what I usually do. Maybe some other viewers have suggestions? Sorry to hear about the PTSD. That's a tough one. Hope you get through it OK.
Most impressive shield paint job, superb close ups!
Thanks Phil, I did enjoy painting them. They're beautiful figures. Things have come a long way since the days of the Airfix romans, though they too were great in their day.
Followed your build with great interest, may I say what a fantastic job you have done with this model.
Thank you John. Really appreciate your support and glad you liked this build. I've always wanted one of these, now I got one. 😊
Wonderful looking bireme, so many realistic details to enjoy, congrats! Can't wait for the crew now!😍😍
Thanks Phil. I've always wanted to build one of these but never got round to it before. Looking forward to painting the remaining crew.☺
Very nice job on this ship.I have several of them to do so nice to see what they look like.Zvezda also make one of these. Will look even better with the crew figures Well done indeed.🐻🐵☺️👍
Thanks Karen. Much appreciated. It's an old kit (1974?) but still looks great when assembled. I'm looking forward to painting those on deck crew (Linera-a and Strelets mostly) as well.
You can be proud, it looks beautiful👍🏻👋🏻
Thanks Yves, really appreciate your comment. ☺
Wow I git quite a few 1.72 roman soldiers but that last box made in Germany I have never seen so much detail seeing a few of ur vids got me wanting to paint all mine, would it be rude to ask where you got the bireme and soldiers love to buy these have a great easter weekend
Thanks Paul. I got the Bireme off ebay and the figures from hannants online shop. I've already said it but these figures are shockingly good. Totally recommended.
very impressive. the last box must be 3d prints.....?
I don't think they're 3d prints Doug unless by some new process. There's no sign of the characteristic rippling effect with printed pieces. But I'm no expert. I'd say they came out of a mould. However they're doing it they're doing it well.
the new linear a stuff is 3D printed yes
Reassuring video - many thanks for making and sharing it.
I'm glad it was of use to you. Appreciate your comment.
The sculpting and attention to detail seems to improve with each new Masterbox kit.
The Masterbox have some great kits. Animation, sculpting and poses are all great. I think they still have room for improvement in their production process - getting rid of flash and mould lines etc.
Outstanding details!!
Thanks Phil, much appreciated.
