Because the Russians don't tell you, it's 19-something and something and Lada gives us the Niva 4x4 range brochure story. So sit back and listen with Stuart as he reads through and occasionally swears at the UK brochure for this extremely robust and much loved car.

It's funny like listening stories, seen passionate car drivers, industry experts in 4WD n suppliers especially people from overseas. I say pimp your car or keep it classic sometimes its our memories that reminds us what we like about cars, trucks etc. I do ask n challenge YT n subscribers to cars n trucks outside their markets saying the what if, which Australian car, ute or wagon would like have/own. Australian cars were exported some miss opportunities to USA n Europe, i remember Wheels magazine driving across Europe n USA, even driving Holden Camira n Mitsubishi Sigma in outback, how cool would this be to do?

Our family car in 1981 was a savannah green 305 estate. It was a 1.5 GL if I remember correctly. It was very slow but very practical. Dad would use it for heavy and large deliveries from his shop. Perfect for delivering a full set of Le Creuset pots and pans. We upgraded to a silver 305 1.9 GTX estate in 1985 which had a registration ending in PAP (pots and pans). That was the car I learned to drive in. It was very easy to drive and quite quick. Fond memories. Thanks for the video.

@@t2stu I only said that as it would be nicer to show the cars but if you don´t have them , i didn´t demand it, only as a sugestion , as i colect cars since young age ,before having age to drive them although i did, as i grew up to my total height when i was 15 ,1.81 meters, it´s a family caractheristic as all my sisters and brothers also my cousins who are a lot , grew up when at this age, and i´m far from being the tallest , with 12 years old i already owned a 1961 yamaha moto of 125cc, as they were much heavier i once didn´t wait till a friend returned from school as i couldn´t hold it alone ,but waiting a entire hour ,i tried to get on top of it with help from the sidewalk limit in stone but i fell , only after 45 minuts he arrived and could help me get of, under the bike, next i trade a enduro dirt bike ,professional one which was more lighter also a 125 cc´s.and my first car was a VW beetle from 1965, after a litle red Fiat sport abarth with great look and low to the ground ,it was nice finished as it had abarth alloy wheels that was more common to see iron racing wheels but only a engine common to the fiat 500, 600 and later the 850(same engine ,diferent carburators) that had a sport version but a litle more high to the road, when taking my drivers permit my first car was a huge Mercedes 280'S from 1969 ,manual after a BMW coupé CS 2000 from 1968 (was my fathers car and he made me buy it from him)along the years as third source of income i started to sell cars , with a higher quality as they belonged to my my coworkers , this in early 70´s has i was taking a 5 year degree in electronics but informatic apeared and being in the third year i changed and was my best option as in 72 i was programing for a north american company that worked with Nasa , spending days doing calculations to execute functions in machine language or binary code, then programming in Cobol and later in Fortram or the reverse not sure now, computers were fast as today but entire buildings with reel recorders that today all fits in one hand, to make the same work, those cars i never sold them and by 1980 i had already several cars and not yet calling a colection to it, mainly brands like Lancia, Alfa-Romeu, Mercedes and BMWs later started to buy very cheap or ofered by friends and family their over spending gasoline engines cars as they couldn´t aford them like a daily car. In 1977 i started to sell in Europe ,north American cars that i was crazy for some models and ´tll 1984 was a good source of income allowing me to keep 12 cars imported from he U.S. mainly from 65 to 74 ,allthough i have others more older like a 40´s Buik from my great grand father(today a family cars as my cousins who can drive it also pay the maintenace and some needed restoring after several years), and a Cadillac coupe deville from 59 with big fins ,my favorite car when growing up and my only two automatic gearbox cars as a 67 pontiac grand-prix convertible,. Sorry for the long coment as i tend to forget about what was i writting, but it´s related with cars, as the lancia montecarlo cost me in early 80´s next to what today is 400€, and i was told that were bad cars ,well no problem ´till today and it turns in mountain roads like if it was glued to the roads, only never could get a wanted Lancia car that i loved ,the Stratos. Sorry again but a nice channel ,it´s subscribed

i own a late 70´s alfasud and in the 80´s bought a well improved alfasud with the quadrofoglio badge and in black with nice graphics in the interior in black cloth, my mechanic was not understanding where the disk brakes were , in the lifter he understood that unique kind of assemble, nica cars still have both ,from a certain point i stated to call it colection as i never sold the car i had when buying a new one, first because iof the money they would acept it in return to buy the newest model at the time, also hadf bought very cheap some alfa-romeus , lancia´s , bmw and Mercedes-Benz i liked when in my 20´s this in mint condition with all parts that it was sold at the dealer when ,new. Refering to the finishings of that year model, at one point i had 7 diferent in finishings and engine gasoline alimentation also with lees or more powern bmw´s 2002, some of the cars were ofered by family friends and others because when the gasoline increased he price the engines from the 70´s with dual carburators or more capacity engine after 1.3L some couldn´t aford driving old cars with 1.6 or 1.8 so well kept for years some were given to me as i always drove 70´s cars looking new ,they would think i´ll keep trhe cars in perfect condition and i did ,today some are valuable, at the time no one wanted them, some cars from Fiat i was told they were rust buckets but i have several fiats since the year 1970 ,well ui have a Fiat 500 and 600 from early 60´s, but mine are still perfect and some nicer models or versions of well sold models like the Fiat 128 , i kept a looking better sport version with abarth finishings even the paint looked nicer than the regular ones 1.1L engines, this had blue tinted windows trhe colour wa a white with a darker shadeand in the back instead of the regular back lights it had two round lights in each side and the sound of the 1.4L engines was almost like in a BMW 1502(with 1.6 engine) from 74 the same year of the Fiat i also own, it had also black with center cloth in red seats with head rest that none had with the same colour scheme of the seat and rare at the time had a rpm counter also abarth sportive three radius steering wheel, both alfasuds are working perfect as i try to drive all i have from time to time, or each three days i change the car i´m driving, it´s litle car but with a strong soul, the 80´s one is also a Ti , maybe all are as i haven´t seen other diferent than the one i have, mine ,the 70´s one was dark blue the 80´s one metalized black with green graphics inside and the quadrofoglio or four leaf clover in green outside, both are real nice to drive also have from the same year of the alfasud , a sprint veloce looking very good and perfect in look and engine

You can call this either. It's a sender unit because it reads oil pressure mechanically (like a fuel gauge) but the 2 pin units also has a sort of sensor device because it switches on and off. That said, the normal oil pressure device on a Beetle is called an oil pressure switch.

Oil pressure is very good on this rebuilt engine. The gauge would read all over the place from cold to hot but drop low yet the unit never triggered the pressure light. I wasn't convinced it was reading properly. The new unit appears to be far more reliable in a steady gauge.

I loved that car! I owned it for 10 years and it had 150,000 miles when I sold it... still running well. BTW, it had features that were ahead of it;s time, you could use the oil pressure gauge to check the oil level !

"as we go through this brocure - no mention of corrosion!" eh, you haven't seen many brochures have you - most don't mention corrosion, or mechanics bills, deadly accidents, fires, explosions etc. Wow, strange huh? Same goes for brochures of a lot if things. Computer brochures don't harp on that the plastics of the case are chosen to have a likelihood of putting out any internal fire by smothering it as the case plastic melts either. Strange innit - in particular since it actually IS something that was designed FOR in a number of computer cases.

1.3 ti: best car ever. If one was clever enough to acquire one that was painted 'Burnt Umber', one found that it was a good match for red oxide primer - meaning that one could easily hide rust patches for about £2.75 (from Halfords). Of course, matt-finish paint jobs weren't the rage they are nowadays, but one could feasibly claim to have been far ahead of one's time.

They didnt test Fiats in damp climates that time. Our damp Irish climate killed anf Fiat built before the 1980s

The 15/17 were sweet cars, but quite unsuited to the US market. French cars in that era tended to the designed for the domestic market, where they also enjoyed a huge dealer network. The US is not France. The 17 TS/Gordini (in European spec) was a very nice car; a sort of GTi before the GTi really existed. The motor was excellent. Sadly, the use of the Gordini name somehow didn't match. All previous Gordini Renaults had had a little magic to them; even the 12, which is often forgotten. The 17 Gordini was a nice car, but was really just a 17 TS with a different badge sellotaped onto the boot. I can imagine an emissions-strangled US model being slightly less jaunty and a good deal less fun.

My dad had a 17TS back in the 70s. It wasn't bad at all.
