    You did set your UA-cam expenses target correctly but you were budgeting a month ahead (Sept when it’s still Aug) that’s why it was asking you to budget $20 rather than refill the $5.88 needed to make it to $20. The refill up to targets work correctly in the current month not future months.

  • @pintofberries
    @pintofberries 6 днів тому

    So sorry to hear about Emmett's continuing health struggles. It's so hard when we can't explain to pets why they feel bad. For the monthly "refill up to" targets, they won't calculate correctly until the first of the month. YNAB doesn't know you won't spend anymore of that money in August, so it assumes you will spend it all until it becomes September and it sees that you haven't spent it.

  • @jennivanhart3016
    @jennivanhart3016 6 днів тому

    Clear out YNAB and pay the rest down over time. Medical institutions are happy as long as you're paying something - at least within 60 days of incurring the charge. The discomfort of the debt will drive you to be more aware of your variable spending habits and probably curb them for a bit - that happens to me and I sock it away to cover the yuck. You've got the habits Becky, you'll be just fine. Take care.

    • @TheGoodMidlifeCrisis

      That's my experience with medical places as well but this one wouldn't schedule the procedure until I paid in full (or paid half and gave them a cc to charge in 30 days) I've heard from some friends that they've run into the same thing recently. I'm not sure if it's just in the Austin area or if it's something facilities are doing now because of the law preventing medical bills from showing on credit reports?

    Since you have a full year to build back up the YNAB category that is the first category I would tap. I wouldn’t touch the emergency fund. In fact, I would look to replace the $55 that already came out of that category this month and do whatever you can to get it up to at least $1000 this year. I wouldn’t touch the tax category either, unless you feel fairly certain that you won’t make enough through UA-cam to have to declare that income. If there is any doubt, don’t touch the taxes or you risk debt anyway. With Celiac disease it is likely you will reach your deductible most years so please consider adding a medical deductible category and start funding it ahead of 2025. It’s probably safe to assume you have a full year from now before you would hit that deductible again. You can run the expenses through your HSA or FSA account, but regardless of what account is used, preparing ahead prevents that much more debt next year. For the shortfall this month, I would get most of it from YNAB and then skim a bit off the top wherever you can; donations, annual fees, holiday, giving, etc. If you’re skimming off $10-$25 from each of those you’ll cover the shortfall in no time with less pain than adding to your debt load. At least that’s my opinion. Hopefully you’ll get enough inspiration from the comments to find something that works well for you.

  • @ticondy

    Could you make a bit of extra money over the next month? Maybe dog sit or even do childcare for parents to have a night out to make a bit of extra money? Simple work but needed. A send your friend a well thought card, give them a big hug and send a card on the one year anniversay (put it on you calendar)....that means a lot when someone remembers .

    I don’t normally recommend credit cards as solutions to money problems because they usually create more problems. But in this situation I would look into getting a medical credit card like CareCredit. They are cards that are specifically used for medical, dental, vision and sometimes pet expenses that offer special financing. Not all offices take them though so you would want to verify that you can use it at your specific office before applying. Also I definitely recommend using the YNAB savings to pay for this procedure. You have plenty of time to save for it again and it is likely that your billing date is going to be pushed even later with how popular your channel is. You can do this Becky. I have been watching your channel almost from the beginning. You are a rockstar.

    • @TheGoodMidlifeCrisis
      @TheGoodMidlifeCrisis 7 днів тому

      Thank you so much!!! I had totally forgotten that Care Credit even exists but, after reading your comment, I did apply and was approved for one last weekend. I don't have the physical card yet so I'm not able to use it (I tried but the link to the digital card just kept giving me an error) It won't work for this procedure but I'm glad to have it for future cases like this ❤️

    Hey hey! It’s been a while. You want me to be an accountability partner right? Let’s get to it. 😏 When was the last time the test was done? If it was over a year, I would have held off from doing it until I saved some money. If it turns out that things haven’t healed yet, it wasn’t healed last month, the month before, or even a quarter before. It could have been delayed another couple of months since the blood test said things were going the right way. You need to work on limiting the 0% expenditures. It’s impulse spending that feels good because it’s zero percent. I get into that trap too and it ties up your available cash limiting your ability to pivot and duck when an emergency comes up. Or, at least set the rule that you have to have at least HALF the money for the purchase before buying on 0%. I’ve been focussing on my health journey and trying to build muscle and lose weight. I’m working more on body composition change now. I did get sick with Valley Fever and that has been a hinderance. 😔 Final update? I’m DEBT FREE!!!! 🎉 I paid off $67K of debt. 😮‍💨 🤗

      Hi!! Welcome back and CONGRATULATIONS!! 🎉🎉 This test was originally done to diagnose the disease and now is needed to ensure the treatment plan is working. If it isn't we'll need to do other things. I was fully planning to decline the MRI or Liver Biopsy if they ordered that again this year but I definitely want to make sure all this GF eating is actually working and I don't need to do anything else. Thankfully, as I'll report on Wednesday, it looks like it is working and I won't need another endoscopy in the near future 😊 I fully agree with the not charging even at 0%! I don't want to do it and, other than the hotel for my birthday trip, everything I've charged has been an unexpected and/or emergent situation. I specifically didn't charge this procedure to it because I don't want to keep using it if I don't have to. Thank you so much for being here and for your support! I'm so so so excited for you to have paid off that debt and can't wait to hear about your health journey 😊❤️

      Ohh, thank you! I didn't double count it but that was an awesome catch. They way Nathan and I split bills is that we put it into Spilitwise and it divides them up to show a total of what is owed to whom. I just moved the $200 that I was going to put toward rent and put it toward the CC instead. He didn't physically give me any money, I just didn't owe it to him for rent 😊

  • @mirabai305
    @mirabai305 13 днів тому

    I don't think you need to set aside money weekly for taxes. Assume 1/3 of what you make from UA-cam will be owed in taxes. So rather than a weekly target, set a monthly target for the week after your YT pay drops and designate a straight 1/3 of the total into your tax category. You can add an assumed amount for tax preparation or the cost of the tax software you might use. I am a full time educator at a medical school and have a very small private practice. I've been using this system for decades and it works perfectly. I always have more set aside than I need and it sits in a HYSA growing even more. It's a good system! An accountant from years ago suggested it and it has always served me well. I've never been caught short.

      Thank you!! I was setting aside the money mostly for tax prep costs. I'm hoping that I won't owe anything, or maybe not very much, but I have owed twice in the last 3 years, even without the extra UA-cam income.

    Hi Becky, I would pull from YNAB and honesty, from NEITHER your taxes or your emergency. I would cut dining out and any of the other non essential from your weekly budget until it's paid off. You have time to pay off a medical bill. They don't report to credit agencies any longer. Honestly please keep your emergency fund for true emergencies and start putting money back into it to have at least $1000. And you don't know what you don't know when it comes to taxes. I think you need to keep hands off of those and cut from the things you don't need to survive. Dining out, fun, etc. It's just a short season. Not forever. You can still have your full grocery budget. $400 should cover you. Keep the $20 as part of ecclesial but pause dining out, fun, any of the other variable expenses that you know you don't need right now. That's what I would do. 🙂 Great video. Have a fabulous time at the Ball and enjoy your weekend! Love ya, girl! PS. Also, you mentioned you were thinking about doing the same thing that Liz from Budget and Balance did and go over all of your CC spending. Could you do that for the Amex? It went from under $1K to over $4K in the course of 2 months. If it's not too personal, do you think you could talk about that? Might be good to get it all out?

      @TheGoodMidlifeCrisis 7 днів тому

      Unfortunately, with this procedure they didn't allow time to pay it off, they aren't billing they required a pre-payment. I was fully expecting the time to pay it off thing to happen, it's what I've always experienced. For the Amex, that was the card I was talking about going over as it's the only one with a balance...well, other than the microwave but that is the only thing on there so it wouldn't be a very interesting video 😅 It honestly didn't go up that quickly, it's just that I wasn't updating it in YNAB because I didn't want to look at it. Not super helpful and I realized that it was close to slipping into old, bad habits by not being accountable about what is really there, it won't go away if I don't acknowledge it.

    I don’t think you touched on it and you don’t have to but if you aren’t maxing out your HSA you should look into contributing to it to cover these expenses so that becomes tax free as well. Obviously consult with a professional or someone in the know of the benefits to make sure it all works properly for your actual plan. But with that being said, I would maybe pull some of it from Taxes if that is really just money being set aside without doing the calculations to see what taxes you would owe. If you’re really nerdy with numbers you can set it all up in a spreadsheet and start calculating how much you’ll owe versus how much you’re withheld already. It can be quite complex to do but it is possible with making a few assumptions about deductions and such.

      @TheGoodMidlifeCrisis 13 днів тому

      I hadn't even thought about increasing my HSA contribution right now to cover it!!! I was just thinking about upping it at annual enrollment but, yeah! This makes so much sense since I'm paying it anyway. Thank you ❤️😊 Also, I haven't sat down with taxes and a spreadsheet yet because I don't know what I'll make from YT so I'm kind of ballparking it. I should come up with a rough figure though.

    Omg, you're so right, how ARE you suppose to reheat food that's already been cooked without a microwave? I guess I would've gone the catering route and used gel flame cans under a waterbath to reheat my food.

      Lol, right?!? I didn't realize how much I was dependent on it until it was gone 😅 That's a great idea! Hopefully I won't need it any time soon but I will definitely keep it in mind for the next time I find myself microwave-less.

    Hi Becky. Great video. Have you considered adding more sinking funds that are saved for "just in case" purposes? Like, "home maintenance" which would be used for home improvements, home repairs or appliances, etc. That's a for instance. Another good one is clothing. Similar to your vehicle maintenance fund, would be used when you need it. That way your emergency fund can be used a little more finite. The chair for your mom, for instance. If you had a "mom" category or "furniture and electronics" you could have that fund for when/if you needed new furniture or a new laptop or phone, etc.. Even little things like phone chargers. The Mom one could be for anything really, taking her out to dinner on the fly, buying her something just because. Adding more to propane if you don't have enough one cycle. I'm thinking $5 or $10 a pay for each. That and as you don't need it, it can build. Or be used to roll with the punches if you don't have enough in any given category. Please try to get a month ahead with your emergency fund for starters and then 2 or 3. That might serve you a bit better. Just some thoughts that have helped me on my budgeting journey. Also one last thing. Since you attend events like your church retreat once a year and the ice ball, why not start saving $3 or $5 a pay or a month for them in your "true expenses". Then if for some reason you don't attend, you can use it for another purpose, like Christmas? Or gifts. Since that's your love language. What is your average spend per year for Ice Ball? The whole thing? Dress, hair/make up, donation, ticket, everything? $400? If you started saving $15 the pay following ice ball you'd have $400 saved by the next ice ball. Not sure how much you spend, but curtail. Just some additional thoughts. Hope you have any awesome weekend!

      Ohh, I had not thought of doing an Ice Ball sinking fund but that is a FANTASTIC idea!! Thank you so much! I will add that in right after this year's ball ❤️ I do have one for clothes and, fortunately, even with my purchases that I made I didn't go over on that one. A just in case one is a great idea as well, maybe I should start adding to my "Forgot to budget" more. Getting a month ahead is always my goal, I'm really hoping that once my car is paid off...and if I can keep him running...that will be in the next year. ❤️

    I absolutely LOVE the way you stand in what works for you with the "just don't eat" mentality. Attempting to power through my finances and just make myself "don't spend!" was a losing proposition. Accepting that I needed a different approach was one of the first big steps toward finding what WOULD work. I just love your openness and strength around this topic!

    i took Metformin and Rybelsus. Both paralyzed my stomach so bad. My stomach was distended and I was so miserable. You can imagine what I went through. I quit taking the metformin about a month ago. My doctor doesn't know yet I am trying to get my type 2 under control with diet. If folks want to lose weight eat meat and veggies. That's how you do it.I lost 44 lbs in 4 months. No carbs unless it was in the veggies and I ate whatever veggies I wanted. Potatoes, brocolli, carrots, grean beans etc. The weight fell off me.

      Oh, how awful, I'm so sorry! Fortunately for me I haven't ever experienced any side effects from medications but I know that's not the case for everyone. I have, of course, done low carb diets. I did my first one in 1997 and have done it many (many many) times since. Yes, they work but, for me, they are just not sustainable. Especially since my diagnosis of Celiac, all of my foods tend to have hidden extra sugars added by the manufactures to make them taste not awful since gluten is what makes things taste good and is added to things you wouldn't ever think it's in just for the taste. Congratulations on your weight loss, that is amazing! I hope it's helped with the management of your Diabetes and your doctor is able to help you with the removal of/changing of your medications ❤️
