That engine looks really old. But it's really simple to practice in cylinder testing on. Solid video Mike
watching firing lines will tell you rich or lean
Another waste of time. Seems like you want to hear yourself talk and think out loud. That's not how to do a TUTORIAL.
Wow. So let me get this. Mike took time out of his busy schedule to show guys how to use their scope. And here you come with a wild comment.
@@djmobileautoservices I am no closer to knowing how to use the Rotkee after watching all of his videos than I was before I watched them. Does that answer you? Moreover, I finally 'broke-down' and bought a Pico 4 channel scope, b/c it's totally user friendly and there are comprehensible instructions on setting it up and using it for the various automotive tests.
Thank you Mike for sharing your experience and knowledge. If I ever get the chance to formally meet you it will be an honor. Haakan speaks very highly of you as well.
How are you grounding your leads?
In this video, channel 6 has the ground lead at the battery negative. The other leads are just a single lead.
What’s the best way to ground the mt pro?
Since all of the grounding points are bussed together. I always ground to battery negative with whatever lead is most convenient.
Enjoy your weekend with all your family around you,@710diagnosticsandfishing 👍 SHARP-WITTED,@710diagnosticsandfishing Take care,@710diagnosticsandfishing From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧 ⏰️ 20:43pm Good Evening
Hi. I just got myMtpro 4.1, and I downloaded the file from Joe's electric. I'm not great with computers, so not sure what I'm doing wrong. When I hit the oscilloscope start button, it goes to STOP, and I get the message Emergency Record Termination, error code 110 (10060). I'm using a Dell laptop running XP. Thanks for your help.
Do you also get the "failed to initialize device" error when opening the software? Do the lights near the LAN port on the tool light up? If not, try a usb power supply or a different computer.
Yes, I do get that message as well. The green light near the lan port lights up.
Make sure everything is connected, then close the program and reopen it. You should see green and yellow lights near the lan port. Otherwise, if lights look good, there may be a problem in the network settings.
Hi Mike, i have used your diagnostic process since you shared it at the round table many moons ago. I have also passed it on to others and always created you for adding to my diagnostic process. Thanks again
Could you verify with a hammer?
Yes, a few strategic taps count as a diagnostic test in my book.

That particular customer is kinda picky.. good thing he only goes with the best.
What about the waveform told you it was an ignition coil and not a spark plug, for example?
There are probably people who can tell the difference between a secondary voltage leak at the plug, wire, and coil. All I can deduce quickly is that the issue lies outside of the combustion chamber. The tech I was working with did inspect the spark plug wire end for carbon tracking. I got distracted with another car and didn't get it on camera. With no obvious issues found, swapping the coils made the most sense. If I was doing the work myself, I'd have swapped the coil first. The engine was hot, and the coils are easy to get to.
@710diagnosticsandfishing ok that makes sense. I didn't know if you saw something specifically in the waveform that indicated a coil was faulty. Thanks
Perfect example why a scope is so good for nailing down the issue with no guessing. You knew within seconds if the problem was inside or outside the combustion chamber.
Excellent video
I love ignition diagnostic. I'm glad to see your guy not old to learn new stuff. Thanks for sharing
Definitely love some ignition diagnostics. Thanks for watching. Love your videos.
Thank you Mike for taking the time to make the videos. I bought my scope 5-6 yr ago, I had a bit of hard time getting the manual translated etc. etc. Back then I couldn't find any information/vds about the Mt Pro here in the US to learn how to use it, so I end up watching a lot of videos in Portuguese, this unit is very popular in Brazil, no long after, I was able to understand the lingo just enough to make watching the videos worth while. I hope you can understand how happy I am for finding your channel. It's been 3 yrs since I play with the scope, my new employer ( 3 yrs) does not believe in scopes, can't wait to watch all the videos, THANKS! again.
Did you say where you got the file for software. I received the mt pro by itself with no info in the box. I do have power to the unit and it is powered on. Ethernet and power hooked up. Thank you sir.
Joe has it as a downloadable on his website Joesautoelectric dot net.
Got it loaded, unzipped and setup. Thanks for the help and all the videos. We greatly appreciate all the time you put in!
Happy to help. This scope is awesome.
It really is a sweet scope! Can't wait to get it in the bay at work. It sold out quick...
Just bought the scope what leads do you recommend for the mt pro?
I really like the rokee leads. Joe has some on his website. Joesautoelectric dot net Rotkee dot com And I believe aeswave has some available or will soon.
Another tool I have to get 🙂
Man, I love this tool. It's one of my favorite tools for testing. Wish the connector for the leads would be of a better design. Its a bit loose but other than thatt. Great tool
Have you ever seen or heard of a scanner pulling up -100 on all fuel trims short and long ??
I would probably ignore that data. Most fuel trim max out around 40% -100 means -100%, which would indicate the engine is running off of an unmetered fuel source.
@ oh ok thanks . Was confused neighbor had CL had cat efficiency low code .
My first thought if i would see that is incorrect vehicle selection in the scantool or maybe the vehicle's ecu has been modified...🤔🤔🤔
@ yeah no none of that it’s a 2016 gmc Denali original owner no mods . He had cat efficiency low code and CL so I went into ecm and live data and that appears on the the fuel trims pids . Thoughts maybe being my topdon subscription expired but everything else works 🤷🏼♂️
Have you verified these numbers with OBD and with a different scantool?
You were able to perform the ignition analysis just using one cylinder? I thought that would kick an error back
The ignition analysis can be run in single cylinder mode
Quick and to the point. I'm really getting to like this scope
nice just ordered my mt pro exited to rest it
Jut bought mt pro at Joe's electric!
This really is an amazing tool for the money. BTW, was this an excerpt from another video you did?
Yes, this was edited down from the live stream presentation. I figured I'd cut out all the extra and just show the analysis tests in a shorter video.
@710diagnosticsandfishing have you tried the cylinder balance on a vehicle with a waste spark system? Wondering if it would work at all
Yes, it works, but I recommend using the auto tune for the trigger channel. Otherwise, it's tedious to dial in.
@@710diagnosticsandfishing im still not 100% on the trigger function yet, so would that mean ( on a WS ignition system), use a secondary voltage lead on cyl #1 for the trigger channel and set it to auto ( the "~" symbol)?
Yes, lead on 1. Then toggle the auto button on. It'll do the rest when you start the recording. If it's on, the autotune starts when you start the recorder. So the engine needs to be idling when you start the recorder.
The CSS is definitely one of the bests and often tests used here at the shop specially when dealing with driveability problems; with just the CKP and an ignition trigger or with one, two or four cams.
ASTUTE,@710diagnosticsandfishing 👍 😊
THANK YOU, MIKE, for these videos. Up to late last night, I was trying to watch one of Eugene's videos, but the language barrier is real.lol. I saw that he linked up with Amazon to sell some of the probes. Which is great for him and us. I have the diesel pressure probe (PS100) and would like to make a video next year on a few trucks. For the diesel guys.
Thanks, DJ. I've been curious about the diesel pressure probe. I mostly use a delta sensor and rc test to diagnose most diesel issues. What's Eugene's channel?
@710diagnosticsandfishing I also saw where he is working with someone to translate some of the stuff that he has. This with what you and other guys post, really helps out. I really like the Crank shaft sensor sync to show how many teeth the Crank shaft have. Can make a bunch of known goods so when I suspect a damage gear. I can spot it quickly. Yeah I get by in diesel using the same tools but I have taken the chance before using my other Transducers while cranking a diesel engine but would love to go In-Cylinder while running. Below is Eugene's channel ua-cam.com/video/-E3XMDRsoIM/v-deo.htmlsi=BLz4ueorjRS43YZI
Thank you
How does it do this?
It monitors the battery voltage while cranking to compare the effort it takes for the starter to turn the engine during each compression stroke.
@710diagnosticsandfishing simple and clever! That said, I wonder if this works when all cylinders are worn... Does it only measure relative to the highest compression cylinder?
It is only a relative measurement, so if all the cylinders are worn evenly, this wouldn't detect it.
Ditex makes some pretty cool stuff. Been thinking about getting their in cylinder pressure transducer
I love my i-tester.quick and to the point. Did you try the logger as yet?
Awesome, Not yet, I plan to hopefully next week.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Please use a larger mouse cursor or a backlit one. Mt4pro is great, it will surely become even better when the Ukrainians drive out the Russians and focus on developing mt4pro. I need an analysis of a diesel engine - in-cylinder pressure, valve opening angles, I am waiting for your expertise. Thank you
Just explained the same thing to a client. They don't want to pay
tool manufacturer didn't account for all configurations???
There is a universal lead set if needed. The manufacturer designed it based on DIN standards. The rare occasion you run across a circuit that is designed in a silly way, there are a few ways to deal with it.
you don’t weld them, you use crazy glue and baking soda
😆 🤣 😂

A Simpson 260 was quite sufficient for troubleshooting similar circuits back in the day. The notes on the wiring diagram have not changed over the years--if you can find a paper copy, that is.
Agreed, there are hundreds of ways to solve the problem. This tool just saves a bit of time in a production environment.
Great presentation man I appreciate your time invaluable info
I emailed rotkee about their stock... Their reply: We don't sell MT Pro or any other oscilloscopes anymore and we have no plans to sell them in the near future. Currently, we only produce accessories for automotive oscilloscopes.
Correct just accessories from rotkee. Joesautoelectric dot net is the place to get one in North America.
@710diagnosticsandfishing he was out of stock too
He only gets small shipments about once a month. These are manufactured in a small facility in Ukraine, I know they struggle to keep up with production. Just be patient and keep an eye on Joe's site.
Thanks for taking the time to do this presentation Mike. I'll look forward to the next session.
