I need this on a medic alert tattooed to my skin. If that ain' it, I don't wanna
I hear you David!
Joe Williams appears to be the son of Count Basie (see 4:15" ). And the drummer, Steve Williams, is the son of Joe (see 38:30" )
The lyrics of the outro (39”) reflect a time when patience was still a virtue (could not find a name of the song though) : "Time goes by so fast it seems to me. We’re never really free. Some things should not matter quite so much. And some will never be. One fine day you look to me. We’ll have moments two or three Keep me close to where you run to hide. I am never hard to find. Take your time. But save that time for me."
The talented, modest jazz singer Joe Williams was quite a big name in that era. The backtracks on that era in between the songs offer an interesting atmospheric view. The setlist: 1” Every day I have the blues (reworked version by Peter Chatman alias Memphis Slim in 1949) 4:50 The Come Back (Peter Chatman alias Memphis Slim, 1953) 10:00” Once in a While (Edwards & Green, 1937) 15:10“ The same old story (Benard Ighner) 21:46” Everything must change (Benard Ighner) 27:30” Who she do (Joe Williams) 34:00” All right, Okay You Win (Count Basie Orchestra & Joe Williams) 36:00” Stella by Starlight (Victor Young) 39:00” Outro 42:30 Encore: Cherry Red (Joe Turner)
Why did Bob Ferrara shave his head? He looks much younger with this cut.
Year of performance?
1981
Thank you.
Simply breathtaking.
"It's called FRIED BUZZARD - one of the delicacies in Mississippi, but it Swings like mad"!! HAHA - - Trombonist John Fedchock's Comp/Arr - it does Swing LIKE MAD!! @13:20
Of all the vocal groups, four freshmen my favorite
Ron Carter...total class!...
Would this be in the late 90’s?
1996
Kevin is one of the best trombonist ever to pick up the horn
muy buen edion
Thrilling.
9:31 wonder what the camera guy was thinking about at that moment 😂
If Taylor S is worth a billion, Maureen and 4F should command 100 times that amount. The problem is unmusical amateur singing assaulting the public with forgettable "original" music. Long live The Great American Songbook (an endangered canon).
The 4 Freshmen are dead - who are these people?
Replacements.
Unless One Is not perfectly tuned.
Night Train Lane 🚂 was a monster then and still is one of, if not the, most feared defensive players ever. Go Lions 🦁
Song name?
What year is this from?
The best info i can find it was 1992.
@@wallymc8938 At 14:00 it changes years. My investigation led me to believe that it is 1983, based on the earlier part of it. Thus, I believe before 14:00 it is 1983, and after 14:00 might well be 1992.
That'd really good video for 1964. Thanks for sharing. I only seen the Tigers back then. I was only 6 years old in 1975 until December
I`m glad you liked it.
MAN! You cut off the tag to Come Sunday!
Hank!
Lions.
The BEST of T HE BEST!
yes
Maureen McGovern! 💕
I still have this on VHS!
Consider converting it to a current media like a dvd or even a mp3 file.....
They are entertaining but lack the sparkle the original four had with the off note harmony sound that was so distinct. I was a DJ when the Four Freshmen hit the air so l pushed everything they did. It was almost a mania! Here came the Four Lads!! What happened to good music?
Ok, boomer
super belle hommage !merci
Thanks, my favorite jazz group. Shallom - Indonesia
Thanks,I`m happy you found it.Best Wally
Oh man this is awesome! I barely remember going as a kid maybe 4 years old freezing and Dad, Uncles drinking heavily LOL thx for posting!
No disrespect to the great Johnny Mercer, Jo Stafford, The Pied Pipers & Paul Weston's orchestra--------but listening to TMT do this 40's classic, they really do own this song. Such total class, the likes of which we'll not see or hear, ever again. --------MJL, 76 y/o
Absolutely agree!! 💯
This is real singing ----------for adults ---------never, ever tire of hearing them.
I'm in tears. 41 years ago ! We thought the music would always be, this good. Nothing fake----auto-tuning not needed ! The Real Deal, RIP Tim Hauser.------MJL, 76 y/o
Love-------LOVE-------the sound of The 4 Freshmen, no matter which iteration it may be. it's a sound of comfort-----of 4 part harmony we just don't hear enough . --------No matter which group it is, I say 4 Freshmen, Forever ! -------MJL, 76 y/o

I really liked the group with Bob, Brian, Vince and Curtis for their harmonies but this version had to the best Jazz chops bar none.
Simply the best.
Love Billy
I saw them live at the Michigan State Fair in about 1954.
I worked at the fair in 1953 across the street from the coliseum, and i got to see them do there air checks in the morning and there shows at night. There is a copy of the fair poster setp 4 thru 13 1953 on the internet,
Beautiful!!! Like to hear more groups like this today!
It would never last in today's lack of good taste.
I'm In, Love this!!!!!
Chet Baker. imortal!
Does anyone know the date of this show? Thanks!
the show was july 16 1977..i taped it july 1982 on jazz alive 1982
@@wallymc8938 Thanks! I was at a 1982 Pepper performance at the Blackstone shortly before he died, which seems to have no trace online. The 1977 DATE explains why I do not remember broadcast equipment. I really appreciate you posting this.

My favorites from this Candy 5:58 Unforgettable 7:58 Love Dance 22:30 Angel eyes 43:34 Day in Day out 40:32 Other great freshmen songs: Day by Day Over the Rainbow In this whole wide world After you
I only know Graduation day, and Blue world.
From late 1999, broadcast in NYC in 2000. Flanagan's gone now. They started in 1948, Butler Indiana. Kenton came thru one day and eventually got Capitol Records to sign them. Their first hit was a song Capitol thought would flop, it was called It's A Blue World and put the 4 guys on the map in 1952 I believe.
It's the harmony.still beautiful.
Not "Butler, Indiana," exactly. It was the Jordan Conservatory of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. 🙂
