Where was this? Prayers for the pilot and passengers.
I believe they are okay. I think they said it was a instructor pilot with a student and the plane had mechanical failures. Awesome landing under the circumstances.
You're addicted to these profile foamies. I don't blame you. So am I. The easiest wa to glue the vertical spars is to leave them in after test fitting them and just wick medium CA into the slot. It will wick all the way through. Then hit it with some kicker. It comes out the cleanest. I do all my spars with medium CA cause the foam tac never gets hard enough and the wings will flex not being as precise as it should be. She is a fun flyer. Especially indoors. You should build a 4D plane next. They are so much fun.
Nice! Looks like a fun flyer. 👍🏻🙂
It's a hoot to fly.
That's one thing I forgot to mention. I hate that they have gone to the 3D-printed hardware. It always breaks. Just catching your plane out of the air wrong they break. I miss the old G10 glass parts that used to come with the kits. I have to buy the carbon for every kit and they overcharge for so many products. This is why they are not getting the sales and the activity on the forums like they used to. It's really not Twisted Hobbies fault it is the manufacturer RC factory that keeps cheating us on parts for high prices. It's just hard to get better-quality EPP foam kits anywhere else other than Hacker Models which uses strong CNC clear plastics for all their hardware. AJ Aircraft TA Horizons EPP kits are also fantastic with great hardware. They sellout so fast when in stock if you don't put your name on the list. Sorry for the rant, lol.
Nice Foamie collection. I love the Mini Crack Pitts. 3D profiles sure are addicting to buy, build, and fly. I just built the Hacker Models 39" Edge 540 V3. What a flyer! Flies like balsa and crashes like a small lightweight EPP model.
Does this have FAA approved lights? How well does it fly at night? Thanks
@@Blanaba No lights present
Many thanks for this very detailed build report. 👍👍

The servos look to be slow?
A quick tip for the press on the linkage stopper retaining clips for the servo. Drill a 2mm hole in a piece of wood. Put the Linkage stopper retaining clip over the hole and then press the linkage stopper into the retaining clip. It is so much easier. No tools needed. Using a plier warps them and they eventually come loose.. Also use some Foam Tac behind the retaining clip and let it dry overnight. It will prevent the retaining clip from coming off. Hope that helps. I have Bigfoot hands and cant do it any other way. You do have to take the servo horn off the servo to do it this way. But trust me it is worth it. It even shows in the instructions to do it this way.
Hey man it’s been a while since you posted anything?? Are you okay?
George. looks like you are using a 600 Mah battery. What kind of flight time are you getting? I am using the Twisted H 450 Mah Volta and getting only 3 minutes of flight time, mostly half to 3/4 throttle of easy flying. Very disappointed with the flight time. I used their electronics.
I get between 5 and 10 min depending on how I fly.
That looks so cool. I wish I was there.
Great content Make part 2 we want to see what you did with this laser cutter
Quick question. When you mount the battery, it looks like you cut a slot in the fuselage to slide it through. How does it stay without falling out? Is it just a tight friction fit that holds it in? You don't velcro it to the side of the fuselage correct. Still giving a great deal of consideration to leaving the landing gear off as you suggest, particularly since I fly off grass. Probably overthinking this as it is my first foamy build. But I will have plenty of time to work on the Yak this week with all the rain in SC. All the best, and thanks for your advice along the way.
@@john9663 I have a small peice of velcro
Great video. Very well done. Is there a reason you did not install the wheels?
@@john9663 From past experience I learned the gear turns out to be an annoyance. Without it you can land anywhere.
@@georgessmokymountainrc5815 I watched your 540 video and now I see why you did not install the wheel set. When you hand launch do you have a "launch mix" with a little up elevator on a switch that you turn off just after launch? I assume you set a high throttle and toss in the air??? Your advice would be appreciated. I start this build tomorrow after FedEx arrives. Your video has been extremely helpful! All the best to you.
@@john9663 The aircraft is pretty easy to fly. No special settings for take off other than low rates setting. Once airborne and in level flight I go to mid rates. Not much need for high rates as it's very responsive.
I like this build video a lot. There are so many little details nobody talks about in other videos because they are "obviously". Thanks a lot.
You should always want your tail dragger warbirds to be nose heavy....2nd if you take 3 or 4 strips of white tape on the bottom side of each wing surface you will be able to orientate the corsir much better
I recently bought one of these (Ready to fly) version and my left aileron is stuck and doesn’t go down and the left one doesn’t move at all… please help
Looks great, nice flying too!
Great video of build and flight. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but thinking about it and I probably should’ve been an arborist because I’m in the trees half the time myself. Good luck with your plane.
Got the grain wrong on that rib dude
Yep, that was prof of concept. When I do all the cuts I will get the grain correct. Defiantly will snap if I bend it as it is on that first piece. I needed thicker stock as well. Looking forward to building this plane in the off season over the next few months.
This is how I imagined this Simulator when I saw it at the store on my 70" tv
What are the electronic specs?
Please check with the manufacturer. I don't work for them. I just do this for 😁
Please make more videos
There are a few in the works. Delayed due to RFID requirements. Thankfully the next build will be a biplane that is under the 0.55lb threshold.
5w or 10w?
10 Watt
In my experience, the cut is much more accurate when you use the multi-pass setting. I usually use 2-4 passes. Plus you have to have a honeycomb. And for thin materials, the laser should be set to the highest position. Not the lowest.
does this come with a recerver and the controler
No
Yes it does from fms
Cool plane, how much are the kits???
Check out twisted hobbies. They have lots of plans. I don't know the price, seems like everything is going up in price these days.
@@georgessmokymountainrc5815 Ok thanks...
Great vid my friend. I love these planes but they are a pain to build properly and very off putting if you havent done them before. These vids help so much. Great job bud👌🏼new supporter here from the uk ❤❤❤
nice flying george i was interested in purchasing this aircraft model from the TH website and was wondering if this plane needs the recommended power set up to be purchased as well or if it comes with the model in the box thank you🛫
When I purchased it, I had to purchase the electronics and motor also. I assume it's still the same way now.
It would be helpful to have a narative when you are flying the plane i.e Gyro is on etc. Thankyou Chris Bailey
would like to say thanks for the video it was very informative and helpful on my first 3d airplane build your video should have a link off of twisted hobbies for the build you did a very good job thanks a bunch keep up the good work
When I covered my wood planes I would use alternating colors between the ribs on the bottom. On the top I would usually use bars parallel to the leading edge. Thinking about painting (repainting) something similar on the foamies. Thanks for the inspiration.
I'm not a big fan of the camo. But I really like the stripes on the bottom!! Real easy to see orientation. Thanks for documenting.
This video is by far better than the sketchy instructions that you have to download. Also those tiny control rod connectors are even more frustrating than the manual. Lol but all in all once it's done, fun airplane! Thanks for taking the time to document.
Excellent, really like that planer, unlucky maiden flight hope you get the old girl patched up and in the air again soon 👍
Hi just learning this myself I think you focused the laser head wrong thin material up to 3mm should be on the highest step of the focusing tool, hope that helps
How’s your laser running?
Cool looking plane.
Excellent Video George thank you!! I needed the help brother. Looking back do you think you needed to glue the extensions onto the servo arms for the elevator and Rudder? I was thinking about just using the longer arms that came with. Thank you again !
You can get by without the extensions; however, your total control surface throws will be less. If you really get into 3D you will want the added control.
@@georgessmokymountainrc5815 I just got back from maidening the crack yak! I REALLY like it. It's a much better 3d plane that the erratix and is easier to hover than the Mamba. I get 6-1/2 minutes of flight from a 600mah. I did cheat and I put a Spektrum receiver in there for telemetry and I set the gyro to only do a wings level on 1 setting....no AS3X. Thanks again brother!
Many years ago a good friend who was into RC planes said that I should not buy an extra 300 and that I would surly crash it right away. He said I had to start with a top wing trainer with dihedral even though I was flying.049 Cox control line and even had did a successful flight on a simulator in front of him. Maybe he wanted me to think what he was doing was hard I don't know. But without any help I didn't pursue it. Years later I saw him again and showed him my 500 class CP helicopter I then showed him a video of it flying. He asked me can yours do that and I said Ron that is my helicopter and it's me flying it. He didn't say a word so I said would you like to try it? Your good at flying planes I'm sure you could do it but he flat out refused. It's sad that we never got to enjoy flying anything together. It was not because I didn't want to I can promise you that. I guess I told a story instead of just a comment but I like that you said setup the right way a person who has flown a little bit could fly that one. I like it when other people show a genuine interest in the hobby. I don't tell anybody that they won't be able to do something.
subbed yur channel, nice video and flying i enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it!
What type Of filement do you use?
PLA normally
Just got some glow in the dark filament, should be fun.
Nice i was wondering also if you know what proper settings is should use in creality slicer because i have the same printer and my prints keep failing
@@Sussy_monkeygaming I download the latest version recently then loaded the printer definition file. The default settings, once loaded, work well.

Please purchase honeycomb laser bed. Air will flow through the the cuts instead of causing the material from floating and popping out of the pattern.
Thanks for the tip
Why did you use wooden spars?
That's part of the kit.
@@georgessmokymountainrc5815 ok, I have the Hacker Edge 540 v3 32” and they don’t have a wooden one.
Well done!
Hey A fellow Compound Flyer! Good to see others so close. Never see anyone else when I go out there to fly
Same here. Only saw one person flying one time in the past few months.
@@georgessmokymountainrc5815 There is a place that everyone use to meet there I go there when I get the time and never see people there. Used to have 10-20 guys out there every weekend. Not sure what's happened to them. Maybe With the new RID law they are going to Sebastian or Valkaria Field.
