Hello, I'm an editor for Break.com, a Defy Media company located in Los Angeles. Your video ice climbing video is absolutely amazing!! Our licensing department seeks out the Internet's top viral videos for multi media outlets, including major TV talk shows around the world. Before you give away free permission for usage of your video I would love to get in touch with you and make a substantial offer. I can be reached at mfelix@defymedia.com. Time is very sensitive. Thank you. -Mark
I am privy to more of the full story, and there is an explanation for why he was climbing on that ice when there is clearly running water (I don't really remember what it was, though). More importantly, you can hear the climber (my uncle) say "I owe you all a drink now" around 4:39 . He did actually buy them drinks and that is when they gave him the video. The people at the top were complete strangers, who thankfully happened to have that rope
Hi Steven, I'd like to get in touch with your uncle about possibly using this video clip in a TV programme. I'd be very grateful if you could reply to me and we can discuss the best way to get in touch? Many thanks.
He is already clipped to a lead (he has a second rope to an anchor below him), fall would sucked but he would be fine, probably decided to try that path shortcutting an anchor due to seeing people
@@LasseLundster Thanks for that explanation. This video was referenced on another channel and I was wondering why the climber was climbing without a rope. =. Watching the video again, I can clearly see he took the necessary precautions.
This guy in no way looks like an amentur, commenters are indeed stupid. What avid climber hasn't had a bad day? Perhaps they meant to have an early start and got held up. Anyway, what looked like an easy section of ice became almost impassable bare rock, who wouldn't struggle there in a moment like that?
Matt Davidson exactly, I’m guessing most of the people commenting have never done a real climb in their life. Looks like he had a piece that stayed in even after the piece of ice fell but it of course probably wouldn’t have held. There could’ve easily been a piece in bomber ice further down, it just would have been a big fall/injury but probably not a ground fall
shrug it off - most commerners online are morons anyways.. all climbers have found themselves in places we'd rather not be - at some point, there is no going back down.. thank god for help, skill and luck!
The guy climbing is actually my uncle, so it is really weird reading all the comments. To all of you questioning his intelligence, I'd be surprised to hear that you never, at any time, did something stupid in your lives. IMO anyone who goes rock/ice climbing for recreation is an idiot. There are plenty of hobbies that don't involve the risk of falling to your death.
awesome presence of mind by the leader to stay so calm when his heart rate must have been going a 100 miles an hour. When I saw the start of this video I thought what the hell is he doing that water is running way too fast over the ice. whoever bailed him out is also a great team.
lucky to be alive. You should have clipped in a while ago. You honestly could have died and situations like that could have been prevented with proper safety technique. But good climbing nonetheless. Just remember going forward, its safety first on the mountain.
The climber was tied in, but climbing above his protection (this is called lead climbing). As long as his last ice screw was placed in solid ice (which you can't really tell from the video), the climber would have been fine if he fell.
*you're. And to answer your question, no I am not retarded. You need to touch up on your grammar skills kid. And to answer your other question, you displayed plenty of anger in this comment. You failed yet again.
This was such an egregious breach of judgment I would classify this person (or his partner) a likely candidate to experience a catastrophic incident in the future. I have little doubt this person demonstrates similar poor judgment in other aspects of his life and this character flaw, the ability to live in unreality, renders him unwise to continue climbing. It takes an unusual degree of honesty to deal with your flaws and personal demons and in so doing live a longer and healthier life.
This is guy is lucky and incredibly stupid. I'm not a climber and using ice picks and cleats on melting ice over running water is a recipe for disaster. Seriously what the fuck were these morons thinking?
I would have probably left rolled with a triple back flip to reestablish my stab in the ice (the ice fings for a greater grip)..THEN..Double front forward roll to compensate the gravity effect..Therefore I would be able to finish the climb and empty my underwear..Simple!!
The woman speaking on this vid is an excellent communicator. She is confident and reassuring. She must be a teacher of some kind. If I found my fat ass climbing up a chunk of melting ice, I would want her holding the other end of the rope.
I admire their determination and positive thinking. I wasn't sure I wanted to carry on watching the video, I didn't want to see a sad end. They worked as a team and the guy climbing is smiling but you could see that he's also prepared for the worst. People who do these kind of sports sees them as a "challenge" to test their human physical abilities and, obviously, because they enjoy practising them. Good for them all. Thanks the heavens the climber is safe, well until his next challenge any way!
💯💯👍👍🏻👍👍🏻👍👍🏻
wow

he's rolling some seriously rigged dice attempting to climb ice that thin over running water, without being on belay no less. Ballsy move my man
Astro herbs he is very obviously on belay
Im sorry, this guy is an idiot. This is climbing 101 aka dont climb on a wet rock.
weirdly he took this really calmly

I thought that melting ice was a good enough warning
Nice vid, close call. I want to try this one day.
Amazing timing!
idiot.
hahaha, it's so funny! fuck that shit! that looked terrifying!
Geilio, lucky lucky!!!
This is a fucking nightmare and what seems like amateur hour
Wow. That was spicy.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing.

why is this vid so impressive? because this shows us it's beautiful to help people.

That's unclear from the video. Even if there was running water at some point that doesn't mean there wasn't solid ice farther down.
The climber was tied in, but climbing above his protection (this is called lead climbing). As long as his last ice screw was placed in solid ice (which you can't really tell from the video), the climber would have been fine if he fell.
fine???
awesome people
I think he was secured, he would have fall to his last secured anchor, the public park has enough safe anchors.
Crampons sound so horrible on bare rock XD

Melting ice + climber = disaster waiting to happen

Eso se llama "Lo que NO hay que hacer en montaña"
how did he get there? why didnt he have safety ropes? why did he climb on melting ice?
I would have probably left rolled with a triple back flip to reestablish my stab in the ice (the ice fings for a greater grip)..THEN..Double front forward roll to compensate the gravity effect..Therefore I would be able to finish the climb and empty my underwear..Simple!!
A life saved..
you don't have to know anything about climbing to know he needs to stop addressing the fucking camera and focus on the task at hand
How far back is that Pro though? Taking a whipper with sharp equipment flailing around isn't anything I'd smile about.
Last sec :D
The woman speaking on this vid is an excellent communicator. She is confident and reassuring. She must be a teacher of some kind. If I found my fat ass climbing up a chunk of melting ice, I would want her holding the other end of the rope.
OMG.......JEJEJEJE.
Dead man climbing.
climbers are dumbfucks, just wishing for death
Well that's gonna be a good ICEBREAKER! huckhuckhuck
mansa cueva , the cueva boss
I really wanna see his mom's reaction to the video.

its the adrenaline dude ;)
as an asian i really dont understand western people ~~ they still laughing when they r in danger ..
Wow! Perfect timing by this helpful duo! What a shocker to find the ice turning into water as you approach the top. Lucky bloke! Phew.
