Heavy undercurrent here. Tone entirely changed when Fred not only walked out of studio, but ALSO failed to show up to the Private Parts film set that afternoon; Howard realized things had gotten real and tried some sort of reconciliation. Years later, when replaying this Rainbow Room incident, Fred remarked "OTHER people had THEIR OWN [marital] issues during this time, and that's all I'm gonna say." Hard not to read that as a dig directed at Stern's fake falling-apart marriage, and possibly Jackie's; I bet Norris was seething here, itching to bring up Howard's private life on-air, but barely restraining himself.

This was really revealing. Big picture, this was Robin basically showing everyone how self-conscious she was and how insecure about what she contributed to the show compared to everyone else. She was really having a moment on air that she’s probably been insecure about her whole career when it comes to how much she actually means to whether or not the show was a success with or without her.
