I’m 13 and I’m teaching myself at home (I have a mat and stuff) I did like a bit when i was super little, but I didn’t get past a round off lmao. Right now I have a handstand, but it’s not completely up and straight. I’m scared of falling lol. I have a cartwheel, but not the landing or my back is straight. Any tips? I need them!!
wow thats a great starting point! do you do handstands against the wall? that helped me build endurance. and doing cartwheels on a line on the floor to make sure i go straight! good luck i hope that helps!

I might be a bit late but one thing that helped me was turning your second hand so it makes a T ✋🫲
Look down at a beam isn’t the best practice it’s bad posture which means deduction your eyes can be down but your chin has to be up try looking at the end of the beam instead of
Ik this sound ridiculous but I saw a video from ages ago I forgot who from but they said no to focus on staying on the beam too much so that’s what I did and it really helped what I also do is to “become one” with the beam idk how like just connect with the beam if that make sense
My coach told me that If you keep your lower abs right and ribs in it’ll help and you wouldn’t be using your lower back

It has taken me about 1 years to and 11 months to get my toe touch in the middle split it takes forever.
I have been taking an adult gymnastics class, and my class owl is typically is in the early evening.....like not so late that I'm tired (although I am a night owl), bu t not super early that I'm rushing over after work. My coach is also super cool with us not doing an element if we are not "feeling it" or our body is saying "don't."
Great info! How is it going 3 years later? I am a 29y/o male with zero gymnastics experience and am going to my first adult class tonight (way later than i would prefer, as you mentioned, LOL)
how did your first class go? i'm so curious what skills you tried out! sadly, i ran into injuries and haven't been back to the gymnastics gym in a while. they're minor injuries due to poor neuromuscular patterning, meaning i'm doing loads of physical therapy. i can't wait to get back to it though!
@@emmaogilvie8679it went well overall! I worked on super basics like cartwheels and rolls, then we went to the bar and i learned the pullover and had some epic fails attempting a hip circle LOL. Rolls make me INSANELY DIZZY so that's gonna be a problem 😂 i need to do several every day to get my brain used to them. I look forward to going back!
@@jordanbabcock that sounds like a blast! i never got a front hip circle but i did get plenty of bruises trying haha you accomplished a lot in your first session--strong work!
@@jordanbabcock Getting dizzy is not at all unusual for gymnastics beginners and will diminish as you get used to the movement and to being upside down. As well as doing rolls it can help to hold inverted poses, like shoulder-stand, headstand, and handstand (front to the wall for a beginner) because your circulation isn't used to having to work harder to pump blood to your feet than your head and the head rush is part of what makes you dizzy.

I've been trying to do rings gymnastics too! I don't have access to a gymnastics gym or a coach, I'm all on my own with a ring set marketed for calisthenics. There are some skills like skin the cat I simply won't fully do without getting some time with an expert first and having a spotter. It just looks too scary to screw up 😂 I've been on the rings for 3 months and I can finally do that hold you're starting from for really long holds. And I can do one, maybe 2 dips at a time depending on the day. I've started trying some drills meant to teach the components of the rings muscle up but it feels pretty far out of reach right now.

Start in the back bend position. Rock back and forth. Practice lifting leg in back bend position. Eventually, you will have enough strength and flexibility you need to flip all the way over. Also practice on an incline

So helpful! Thank you! I’m glad I’m not the only one miffed that adult classes are so late in the evening, and it doesn’t work for me as a morning person. Great idea to do private classes instead… the thing I like about group is that it gives me more time to rest while others take their turn. But it’s true that in private sessions I learn faster… How did you find your coach? :)
I'm glad you found it helpful! Honestly, I just called every facility and asked. This guy was pretty cheap compared to basically everyone else otherwise idk if I could've afforded it 😂 good luck! I hope you find something :)
Some is tradition. But also a lot of mens events like rings require significantly more upper body strength, and the beam for women has some high risk low reward for men 🙊 Women can learn some mens skills if they want (and vice versa) and I would love to see it. Let me know how it goes.
