"Its Complicated" for Sarah Walker and Chuck Bartowski
Переглядів 2,8 тис.6 місяців тому
Relationships in the spy world are complicated. With lying and deception it is tough to figure out what is real and what is a ruse. Several times in the Chuck series the characters use the phrase "It's Complicated" when describing a relationship. The phrase is usually said with angst, as the relationship is "complicated." #Chuck, #Sarah, #Charah, #Chuck tv series, #Walker, #Bartowski

    I just realized, that picture of the two of them, in her suitcase, is the same one Chuck stared at in his room after the "it can never be real" speech, AND the same one she threw the pen through the following episode, when she was annoyed that he was trying to find out about her past.

    Definitely never noticed the North by Northwest poster. But, Eva Marie Saint doesn't really save Clark Gable, per se. Yeah, they fake her shooting him in order to convince the bad guys that there's no one after them anymore and she for awhile hides him from the police. But really, the old guy is who really gets him out of trouble, at least temporarily, both because it's his idea to fake Cary Grant's death, and in regards to getting him out of jail after he's arrested for the murder at the UN. But ultimately, Cary Grant actually saves Eva Marie Saint, at the end. So in a way, yes, it is similar. At first, Sarah is protecting him, but the other hand Chuck "saves" her, from the stand point that he gives her more of a life than being "just a spy."

    The episode with Sarah's dad was amazing on so many levels. When Chuck first meets him, the look Jack Burton gives him, he obviously thinks his daughter is running some sort of con (she obviously is, just a difference kind of con). So the fact that by the end of the episode, he realizes his daughter is actually in love with Chuck, says a lot. On top of that, Chuck defends his actions to Sarah on many occasions. And every time he does, she basically says that she wishes her father was more like Chuck, which of course he completely misses.

    In 108, she teases him saying that they have to make love, and then when she shows up, she shuts him down. 'What did you think was going to happen here tonight." Kind of a cheap shot to the fans, teasing them closing the deal only 8 episodes in. She should have said something like, and Sarah the handler would have, 'We need everyone to think we're sleeping together, so I'm going to have to spend the night at your place soon.' It would have made her showing up and blocking him, so to speak, more smooth. The way she set it up, he should have been expecting to perform, so to speak. Especially when she shows up in a trench coat and that cute little purple outfit. This sequence should have been worked out more smoothly when they were writing it. The way it airs it's very clunky and Sarah seems all the more manipulative for her behavior. Especially in the light of what she says later on about falling for him very early on.

      Ellie and Morgan are the MVPs of the show. Ellie was the first to recognize that Sarah had real feelings for Chuck ("I've seen the way she looks at you, she's definitely in to you."), the one who encouraged Chuck about Sarah, when he was having doubts about still being able to get her ("You don't stop, you never go too far."), and she had the most important statement in the entire series, about emotions and feelings in the finale. As for Morgan, his encouragement to Chuck about Sarah, after he found about Chuck's spy life obviously was a big turning point. And, in a way, he was also involved in Sarah finally recognizing her love for Chuck, as well. Chuck's speech to Sarah about why Morgan was important to him as his best friend pretty much sealed Sarah's recognition of her feelings, and gave her a greater appreciation for Morgan, as well.

      Well.....that was not well thought out. He would never have seen his sister, or best friend again. Those were the most important people in his life. Added to that, a life on the run, is not much of a life. What is not well done was his refusal was not well explained by him. But you could also say that he knew he could not stay long or he would have caved in. Also the song, I think its called "my backwards walk", is very telling to the scene. He is walking away from her while facing her as she is the guide for his life and walk. It is a great song, the meaning of the lyrics, play exactly to his feelings.

    • @TheNyxmaster
      @TheNyxmaster 2 місяці тому

      Well in a storytelling, the hero, to be seen as such, must fit several criteria, some of them : They are driven by a higher sense of good. They prioritize their duty to a more just cause above their own interests and they are willing to sacrifice their personal happiness to achieve this standard of goodness. In this, they are absolutists. They are honest and sincere in their quest for happiness and it cannot be complete if they know that they have not completed their mission. That's what Chuck tries to explain to Sarah when he is in the vault (S03E02)... Don't forget, Chuck is a hero: he embodies what being a good person means, without concession. And that is exactly why Sarah loves him: without him she looses her sens of good and evil and she's nothing but a spy.

      @ErikLeber-td7oj 2 місяці тому

      @@SteveFresca-qk1vd True. But there was no one else around, so she wasn't really needing to sell the cover, in that instance. I just restarted watching the whole series again, and she way overreacted to his suspecting her of having killed the doctor and wanting to kill him, in the second episode. If anything, in that instance, she should've been much more angry at Casey, for giving Chuck that idea in the first place. I think clearly that was just a case of the usual female passive aggressive crap, where they act like they're mad about one thing, when it's really about something else entirely. I think she was more mad at him that he hadn't figured out that she meant it when she told him that she liked him, in the first episode. It's somewhat similar how she gets mad at him in season 4 for not wanting to elope, where she's really never over the situation with her family.

    • @SteveFresca-qk1vd
      @SteveFresca-qk1vd 2 місяці тому

      @@ErikLeber-td7oj You are right in that she went "outside" the cover and expressed her feelings. Chuck did not pick up on that. Sometimes he did not see it, like when she told Lou not to hurt him.

      I mean, he knows they're dating as a cover, hasn't had a proper girlfriend since Jill (which ended terribly and left him with some scars), as well sa not having a ton of self confidence. It's easy for him to have doubts that she's just trying to pull him in because of the job, for him to grow more attached to her and trust her more.

    • @ErikLeber-td7oj
      @ErikLeber-td7oj Місяць тому

      @@MFAN1100But there also are a lot of inconsistencies in this regard. He clearly knows that she has real feelings for him at the end of the first season. And even the way he sarcastically says "I know I'm just an asset," would seem to imply that he knows she said that just to try to convince Roan. And even the way he tries to convince Bryce, in 2x3, that nothing is going on, makes it pretty clear that he knows she has actual feelings for him, even before Bryce directly tells him. And yet, for some reason, most of the rest of the season he reverts back to being confused about the situation. For instance, when we see the back of the Tron poster, he apparently heard her say her middle name, in 1x4. But he even questions this rather unimportant detail. It seems like a rather insignificant thing for her to lie about. So even with the situation such as it was, Chuck was kind of a feeb.

  • @davegray7206

    I don't know if he's a loser, but he's the archetype loner spy. He is in it for himself. Think of how many characters, including Roan and Carina, who describe only taking care of yourself, and letting team members die if captured. He's the yang to Chuck's Yin. Chuck's loyalty makes him a more powerful asset. A more powerful spy. Shaw playing with Sarah, kissing her and the rubbing and the coffee stuff is just more examples of how he is more about himself than his colleagues. Shaw is the good spy with no soul.

  • @davegray7206
    @davegray7206 3 місяці тому

    I wonder very much about Prague. To paraphrase what Castle tells Beckett on their show, 'What man has ever turned you away?' I would bet that, like Carina, Sarah has never heard the word, 'no,' in that context. That hurt her so deeply, it took basically the entire season for her to get over it. Despite watching the video that Carina gave to Sarah.

    The best part, is that Casey actually encourages Chuck in regards to Sarah, even after Chuck contributed, albeit unintentionally, to his being "fired." Says a lot about how much Casey's attitude about Chuck had changed from the beginning of the show.

  • @davegray7206
    @davegray7206 3 місяці тому

    It's like she is giving him permission to open up to her. She is encouraging it, because, especially early on, she knows she can't to protect her identity as protector. She knows the price of opening up, so she has him do it for the both of them. It's her way of showing that she cares, because we find out later, she falls in love with him very early, by her own admission, but still has to stay distant to keep that 'spy hat' on.
