CHEMEX COFFEE BREWING RECIPE FOR BEGINNERS! Great tasting coffee at home [BGM] [COFFEE] [MELBOURNE]
#filtercoffee #homebarista #melbourne
Welcome back to another episode of Caleidoscope! Today we will be diving into my favorite Chemex brewing recipe! It's similar to a v60 but has more clarity in its flavor profile!
Remember to always use freshly roasted and freshly ground coffee for the best results. Otherwise, your local specialty coffee shop/roaster will be more than happy to grind it to your desired liking :)
Recipe:
700g total water
46g total coffee
100g 30s 1st bloom - swirl
100g 30s 2nd bloom - stir
500g water steady pour
take out filter paper at 5min mark
Feel free to comment if you have any questions regarding the method that I've shown in the video or need any tips and tricks for your home coffee brewing experience.

    Love the video! I want to try drip coffee but don't want to buy an expensive assembly before I do. Few questions: Does the paper filter go above or below the grinds? Do you use a new plastic bag every time? How concentrated would you say the coffee is?

    a few tips/hacks you can do 1 get a metal Filter {aeropress} that is large enough to fit over the paper filter/rim {Together with a paper filter it will more evenly spread the water} 2 put the entire tower in the fridge or a cooler box, to eliminate the most annoying factor: ambient temperature. {yes tested it myself, and it indeed improves the taste} 3 use a dedicated grinder specifically for cold-drip, that way you always have the PERFECT grind size 4 USE METRIC measurements for everything. from the amount of Coffee to the amount of water and ice. That way you can get the exact result every time. make sure to write down everything, from weight, to time it dripped. {and yes this works, it took me about a 75-100 tries before i got the PERFECT ratio for my tower}. 25 where kinda ruined due ambient temperature being different each time, after i used the coolerbox method, the taste was the same every try.

    Hey, just interested in open discussion, do you think that the melba jug is too light in weight. Its just 170g. Do you have any idea what the best weight of 490ml jug shoud be, or medium jug compare to other brand? I got mine last year but still not satisfied enough. Thanks

    1:49 'glass thinga ma gig' hahaha. It'd be cool to see you taste it at the end! :) Also, does the coarseness of the coffee grind impact the flavour and what is TDS, does using different types of beans impact this?

  • @brandontan9794
    @brandontan9794 4 роки тому

    Great video!!! Does the 720g include the ice weight as well? If so what’s the ratio of water and ice? Does that matter?

    • @caleidoscope3500
      @caleidoscope3500 4 роки тому

      Thanks for your question, Brandon! Yes, 720g includes both water and ice weight together. The ratio of water to ice does not matter, just as long as the water that hits the coffee is cold-ish.

    • @darknessblades
      @darknessblades 3 роки тому

      @@caleidoscope3500 The water-ice ratio matters, as this affects the speed the water drips/ice melts. colder water molecules are larger, meaning it takes longer to drip down. As for Brandon, what works for Caleidoscope might not work for you, as each person likes a different ratio. Using metric to write down everything will give the exact same result every time. {at least if you put it in a coolerbox, due ambient temperature being a large factor in taste}
