I'd like to ask the bowls tournament organizers about their claims of safety for everyone involved if Israelis are banned from participating: how many Israeli bowlers ever committed acts of terrorism? If terror supporters and anti-semites were banned things would be a lot safer without a doubt.

"Islamist" is a made up word and your guest is an ignorant neo-colonialist who thinks secular minority should rule the muslim majority Syria
Simon is so smart but his books are so painful to read. He turns the most basic statements into elaborate convoluted riddles.
It's depressing how little Yonit cares about accusations of IDF war crimes. I don't personally understand how failures of IDF leadership on 7th October are any excuse for soldiers committing the kind of indiscriminate killing the Ha'aretz article describes but apparently she feels differently judging by the excuse making and immediate subject change to talking about a dodgy report produced by far-right Brits.
What is there to talk about?! Some more Israel bashing?! Don’t you get enough of that in the British media? Soldiers who commit crimes get investigated and prosecuted. There is no story there other than antisemitic intents….
Is Simon's cosmic extrapolation from the events of 1904 in Limerick representative of his usual evidential approach as a historian? It's telling that this episode occurred when Ireland was under occupation by Simon's government and that he is drawing an inference about Irish people 120 years later. It's almost as if Simon is clutching at straws in an attempt to smear an entire nation. To what end, Simon? Hopefully not to distract from the pogroms occurring in 2024. Simon might be interested to learn that Ireland was the first country in Europe to recognise and protect Judaism in its constitution. A protection enshrined in 1937. For his benefit, the Irish constitution is a living (and, yes, written) document that represents the will of the Irish people - a concept admittedly difficult to imagine for Simon and his compatriots east of the Irish Sea.
Jonathan - I think even Yonit couldn’t take your lessons for “both sides” about antisemitism. And please don’t tell us we didn’t understand you or you were not clear. Israel is in no way to blame for those actions. On the contrary. You are less safe in London because YOUR government is not holding its responsibilities. Nothing to do with Israel.
Lots of hatred being directed to Toronto's Jewish institutions and community as well.
Yonit's lip color is always great in these.
Typical leftist crap, blah, blah, blah. Regardless of how you people try and smear anybody that doesn't agree with you, well, you won't win anymore because the majority of people don't take you people seriously and can now show you

I was saddened to hear about the boycott that the synagogue did on Yoav Galant. he is the son of Holocaust survivors. A man who served, risked and devoted his entire life to protecting the people of Israel and Jews. He dedicated his whole life to save others. And now after all his contribution people are turning their backs on him because of antisemitic press and coverage while our Jewish brothers and sisters should know better than that. 2000 years of disloyalty and turning our backs on each other that just never ends. He does not deserve this treatment.
Thanks for another great pop culture reference from Yonit! May your cats never be smelly cats!
An interesting point that Haviv Rettig Gur of Times of Israel (who could be good guest on this podcast!) made about Sykes-Picot is something along the lines of "it's easy to lay blame on Sykes-Picot for messing up the Middle East, but in the many decades since the French and the British left, there hasn't been any attempt by the Arab powers to redraw the map."

He is an Israeli.
@ yeah. Who is behind a lot of the mess
I find it hard to picture Israeli settler occupiers as innocent civilians (bar children and the incapacitated). There's nothing civil or innocent about anyone who is willing to engages or be part of a project of occupation that kills, maims, expels, imprisons, destroys, ruins lives and livelihoods, settles by force, steals resources, appropriates...etc while at the same time dispossesses, restricts, deprives, disenfranchises, dehumanises, ...etc the rightful owners of the land. A rape victim has every right and should not be blamed for attacking or slashing their rapists, similarly, Palestinians also have every right to attack Israeli settler occupiers, regardless of who does this for them, be it Hamas or any other. It's the West that has flipped the story upside down. Depicting Israelis as victims and Palestinians as attackers. Palestinians are only reacting to something they've been forced to endure and live every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year for almost a century now. No one should characterize or blame Palestinians for reacting exactly as any other nation would if they were in Palestinians' shoes. After all, Palestinians are not the ones who crossed contenents and oceans to occupy someone else's homeland and do all the horrible things which other have done to them throughout
It's hard to imagine people who live in Israel, who were born and simply don't want to die as 'innocent civilians' while it's easy to picture people who believe that blowing themselves up on a bus is a good thing that will get you to heaven as innocent civilians. Palestinians have done horrible things and are doing horrible things every day, they praise their heroes for raping and burning whole families, yet you talk about Israelis where the average Israeli wants to co exist and have peace. There are many peace rallies (or were before many people realized what the average palestinians wants) througout the years, which is why the Oslo accords were signed and why Israel left Gaza in 2005 before it was sieged (after Palestinians elected Hamas). How many peace rallies are there for Palestinians? Even look at your own comment, you think that 6-9 million Jews in Israel will get up and leave just because your narrative of who is the rightful owner of the land. In reality there are miilions of Jews and Arabs who believe they are the rightful owners of the land. The only solution then would be to COMPROMISE, until Palestinians change their way of thought from praising suicide bombers, using international aid to shoot rockets on civilians, praising dead bodies of women being paraded on their streets and so on, they will continue to suffer. If one day they realize that Israel isn't going anywhere, then maybe they will be able to think about a two state solution and having a good life instead of making themselves suffer.
In other words - thank you for spreading more ignorance and hate, try again at a palestinians rally where not understanding basic facts will get you promoted.
Arabs slaughtered their Jewish neighbors in Hebron in 1834. That was before Zionism. Arabs slaughtered most of their Jewish neighbors in Hebron in 1929. That was before Israel was established in 1948. All of Hebron and other massacres of Jews in the Middle East were carried out before the occupation. Right now Arabs are slaughtering each other in Syria. My question: can you imagine innocent Arab civilians being slaughtered by Arab militants? Or maybe you think that Arab civilians slaughtered by other Arabs can’t possibly be innocent?
Trump really does not have a mandate. He will get under 50% of popular vote.

Ilana Dayan was excellent. A wonderful balance to Thomas Friedman, whose views have turned against a pro Israel view. I no longer read his columns and am uninterested in his perceptions. For me, he is an example of how you cannot care about the Jewish experience.
Powerful words, tragic times. 💔😢
This week, in a Haaretz piece titled "B-llsh-t and war crimes", Hagai El Ad writes: "Two days after the elections in the United States, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman was interviewed by Israeli journalist Ilana Dayan. He told her that what he fears most for Israel is "a Trump who just [tells] Bibi: Do whatever you want, annex it, keep it, occupy it" because then "7 million Jews will end up occupying more than 7 million Arabs." Friedman didn't provide details - and Dayan didn't ask - on how exactly the future he described is different from the existing situation in Israel/Palestine. In practice, his description of the theoretical gloomy future was nothing but an accurate formulation of a realistic and known present. While denying reality, Friedman described what Israel already is - and has been for a long time: 7 million Jews rule, dispossess and deny rights to 7 million Palestinians. Apartheid, in other words. Friedman is a prize-winning commentator who is close to U.S. President Joe Biden and sometimes serves as his (un)official voice. Dayan is one of the journalists held in the highest esteem in Israel. And yet, they both exchanged words that can only be described as b-llsh-t, and it was seen as a reasonable interview between two good, liberal journalists who support democracy and don't support bad figures like Netanyahu or Trump." And here is the replay. A similarly "reasonable interview between good, liberal journalists who support democracy and don't support bad figures like Netanyahu or Trump."
Did you live in Apartheid South Africa?
@@beverleyprice2708 Why not ask if I like strawberry ice-cream? That question is equally germane.
Is that a 'no' ?
@@BeverleyPriceJewellery Out of respect for your own time (and mine) I think you should simply articulate your point. I know it may be charitable of me to still assume that you have one. In the meantime, it should be fairly self-evident that the duration of my own personal sojourn in Soweto, Sharpeville or Stellenbosch has precious little bearing on the apartheid status of a country in a different hemisphere. Apologies for stating the obvious. And finally, for the avoidance of doubt, and again charitably assuming you have anything of substance to counter Hagai El Ad's assertions, then you need not trouble yourself with any aspect of my identity because (full disclosure here) I am not he. Hope that helps.
@@robertmusil5831 sojourn? Is that a 'no'?
This time, the facts and the truth, are just too scary to face Ilana. Too scary and too all encompassing. Too many people and institutions are at fault. Too many stories they told turned out to be fiction. Only looking at the true reality of life, for the entire population living between the river and the sea, can start answering the questions you have. But no one in Israel will ever dare. So the questions will remain. And on it will go.
Thomas Friedman over the years has become delusional. It is one thing of wishing for a two state solution when we know it cannot happen as long as the so called Palestinians do not de-radicalise; it is completely false to call Palestinians indigenous along side the Jews. Friedman has gone way to far to the left of politics, that it is difficult to take anything he writes seriously anymore. Also, it is time for Yonit to start challenging some of the things Jonathan says. Some of the things he says makes you think he takes part in the weekly demonstrations in London
Banana duct taped to wall...there's a sucker (banana eater?) born every minute, modern "art" is a huge scam. Meshugah. I saw the poignant clip with Ms. Yanai, sadly her words had no effect on that odious student, he went right back to his pro-hamASSed stance. Not even the truth can change a closed, ignorant mind.
Why does it feel like Thomas Friedman has no first-hand experience
First time I wasn’t able to complete an episode. Hearing Thomas Friedman blaming the loss of election on the Israeli - Palestinian war is a bridge too far. Democrats should look inside instead of looking for external reasons for the loss.
Yonit observes that this is the first time ICC warrants have been issued to a "democracy". Now that the ELECTED prime minister and ELECTED former defence minister are indicted war criminals what are the implications regarding the collective guilt of those who elected them?
Three Jews on the news and two of them have no concept of what we Israelis are experiencing.😐 We are in a war for our very existence, the future of the Jewish state in the Middle East. I have 11 grandchildren here. Two state "solution"? First some sense of security for the one tiny state surrounded by hatred and enemies with the will to destroy us as long as it takes.🙄
I want to add the Ilana made me cry! Thank you.
Edward Said's 1989 assessment of Thomas Friedman now seems far too generous: “There is little self-irony, no twinge of doubt in what he ladles out.” Said also observed that Friedman possessed a “special combination of disarming incoherence and unearned egoism that gives him his cockily alarming plausibility."
Jonathan keeps making the mistake of distinguishing between Hamas and Gazans as if Hamas is an alien force imposed on Gaza. Members of Hamas grew up in Gaza, and were educated in UNRWA schools. "Ordinary" families are holding Israeli civilians hostage. Not all those who crossed the border on October 7 were Hamas fighters. The celebrations on the streets of Gaza on October 7 were not only by Hamas card carrying members. You start a war, you take the consequences. For the majority of the war, aid could have come in from across the border with Egypt where Israel had no control.
I see you agree with the "collective guilt" claim of Isaac Herzog who's assertions have been cited in the parallel case before the ICJ. By the same token, your "you start a war, you take the consequences" comment is a de facto endorsement of the argumentation of Slobodan Milosevic. Meanwhile, in the reality-based universe it is simply a mathematical impossibility that any more than 8% of Gaza's population voted for Hamas.
@@robertmusil5831 Who said anything about voting? A PSR poll in Palestine not that long ago showed: 71% of people think the decision for Hamas to launch the Oct 7 attacks was a good one 95% of respondents do not believe Hamas committed war crimes during these attacks 64% of people believe Hamas will defeat Israel in the current war, and 59% would like to see Hamas rule all of the Palestinian Territories. 73% are against the “day after” vision being floated by the US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan to have an Arab-led peacekeeping force help rebuild Gaza and strengthen the PA while a plan was put in action to create a 2-state solution and a lasting regional peace. I am not advocating committing war crimes. The point is expecting "pro peace Palestinians" to suddenly appear, is not living in a "reality-based universe."
@@jasnjsemy Who said anything about voting, you ask? I believe I did. But to reiterate the point I made below, since you raised the issue of "collective guilt": Now that ICC warrants have been issued to a "democracy" and its ELECTED prime minister and its ELECTED former defence minister are indicted war criminals what are the implications regarding the collective guilt of those who elected them? Similarly, a Pew Research poll in May 30th found that only 4% (to repeat: FOUR percent) of Israeli Jews believe that Israel's "response" has gone too far. That's fully 4 months AFTER the world's highest court found that Israel is plausibly committing the crime of all crimes. I assume that those polled do not only have access to Channel 12 but also possess an internet connection. Thanks for providing details of the PSR poll. Unfortunately the information that it happened "not that long ago" was not sufficient for me to find it. The PSR poll of 16th September, on the other hand, found that 57% of people surveyed in the Gaza Strip said the decision to launch the 7th October attack was incorrect. Moreover, the previous poll conducted by PSR did not deliver the findings you are quoting. We can of course question the validity of any polling under such apocalyptic circumstances. The countless number still trapped under the rubble would, I assume, have been unavailable for comment.
@@jasnjsemy One final observation regarding a tiny flaw in your thesis: "You start a war, you take the consequences." I assume you are not a fair weather friend of that principle. You are therefore prepared to accept its implications when applied consistently. There was a well-known historical figure who once stated: “The blockade is by definition an act of war, imposed and enforced through armed violence. Never in history have blockade and peace existed side by side. ... There is no difference in civil law between murdering a man by slow strangulation or killing him by a shot in the head. ... If a foreign power sought to close Odessa or Copenhagen or Marseilles or New York harbor by the use of force, what would happen? Would there be a discussion about who had fired the first shot? Would anyone ask whether aggression had begun?” The speaker? None other than Israeli foreign minister Abba Eban in his address to the UN General Assembly following the 13-day partial blockade of the straits of Tiran in 1967. This was Israel's casus belli for the 1967 war. As you know. I am intrigued by the "logic" that states that a PARTIAL 13-day blockade IS a legitimate casus belli while a COMPLETE 16-YEAR blockade of slow strangulation is NOT. Applying the impeccable logic of Abba Eban (triple first class honours, University of Cambridge), since "the blockade is by definition an act of war" then the war commenced in 2007. Not in 2023. So you do see the problem, don't you? You are obliged to remain consistent with your "you start a war, you take the consequences" principle regardless of when and by whom it was started. Happy with that? And to be clear: "you start a war, you take the consequences" is not my principle. It's yours. So having made your bed, now lie in it. Thanks so much for engaging.
@@robertmusil5831 the main problem with your argument is that Solobodan started the war!
Two states for two people is a good plan
no it is not bc palestinians will turn it into a terror state
It’s a great plan, but only if both sides agree. It took the second intifada and decades of Palestinian obstructionism, but Israelis finally got convinced that Palestinian leadership’s goal is “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free of Jews”.
Yonit, drop your partner. He doesn’t understand that his Western civilization is going to self destruct. Terrorists are taking notice of the so called Western morality. Listen to Douglas Murray and Ayaan Hirsi Ali before you lose Israel.
The only people responsible for making Israel a pariah are those defaming her, not she herself. It is always Jews are to blame for antisemitism and isolating Israel based falsehoods is part of that.
Thank you so much for putting these up as a video, I love seeing their faces and the expressions. Somehow Yonit always comes out with the best one-liners "these sound like details to me" in that context is one I am determined to use.
