For this cover I tried to cover the guitar part aswell... A few mistakes were made but I like this enough to post! That's the 1st take for everything but the stratocaster part because I'm shit at bends) I feel like every cover on youtube is perfected, we don't see the number of takes, I might do that "1 take only" a thing... We'll see!

      Yes je les ai remis aussi, après avoir essayé les mojotone le feeling était meilleur avec les probuckers, j'ai juste un peu joué avec les vis histoire d'améliorer un poil la définition mais ils sont top

    I thought the Tokai and the Epiphone IBG 799 version sounded very similar to each other. The Open Book Epiphone Les Paul Custom sounded better. Individual notes seemed more defined and developed.

    Review interessante, j'ai pris la ES-355 et la finition est tres bonne a part les fretes, elles n'etaient pas asse polis (typique d'Epiphone) mais elles accrochent pas comme dans ton cas... J'ai entendu plusieur personnes qui ont recu ces nouvelles Les Paul Custom avec des problemes. Ton opinion de la guitare est valide car c'est ton experience et au pris paye tu as des attentes justifiees. Les jack SwitchCraft peuvent etre tres rigides, c''est normal mais ca surprend au debut.

    • @valendis
      @valendis 2 місяці тому

      C'est ça effectivement, et là elle faisait pâle figure contre la moins cher, c'est surtout ça qui était frustrant! Superbe la ES-355 également elle me tentait, la SG aussi est très jolie... Je devrai recevoir des pièces pour upgrade la moins cher mais vraiment la moins cher est vraiment un très bon rapport qualité/prix même avec tout d'origine. J'ai prévu d'aller au Japon l'an prochain et j'essayerai de ramener une Shinichi Ubukata pour avoir une semi-hollow. J'avais trouvé la standard 50s très convaincante également mais je pouvais pas blairer la touche...

    I absolutely love my new IBGC Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Alpine White. I don’t care about its country of origin. What matters to me is it inspires me to play. Thank you Epiphone for this new premium line. For just $500 more, with this quality it’s a bargain. It has been 11 years since I bought my 4 Epiphone Les Pauls. This new premium line woke me up from hibernation. Seriously!

      @pauljohnson3686 2 місяці тому

      Absolutely.. I agree with you.. I think that some viewers are out to tear epiphone apart before they own or really play one of the new models.. They really are on another level to the previous models and are as near to the Gibson version as you will get minus the nitro finish and the slight difference on the bridge. That aside they share much the same specs as the 6k custom shop versions.

    Hey everyone, I ordered the nickel parts, I'll probably do a video about these, I might do a step by step replacement sound sample video... Here's the list: - Faber Aluminium Tailpiece - 36€ - Faber Steel Tailpiece Inserts - 16€ - Faber Wrap-lock - 34€ - Faber E-sert converter studs - 36€ - Faber ABR-1 Bridge - 47€ - Kluson "Tulip" locking tuners - 65€ - Switchcraft Straight toggle switch - 29€ - Switch knobs in black or nickel - 7€ - Gibson jack plate Nickel - 13€ - Mojotone 59 Clone Low Output HB Set - 245€ (ouch!) So, if I add the price of the guitar itself (785€) , we end up at 1313€ which is about the price I payed for the expensive Epiphone... But look at those parts!

      I'm gonna upgrade the shit out of this guitar, I left a comment under this video with what I ordered today ;). I agree with you I preferred the Kalamazoo overall sound, I just think it lacks a bit of dynamics, this is why I'm going with low output pickups.

  • @the_fleeing_dutchman
    @the_fleeing_dutchman 2 місяці тому

    Pity that you don't state the total cost of the upgraded Tokai but for me the Tokai was the winner, when it came to the last sound clips: most clarity, the other Epi's were a bit more undefined. But thank you for putting in all this effort. Nice playing as well.

    • @valendis
      @valendis 2 місяці тому

      I'll ask my friend what he ended up paying for the upgrades, I'll come back to you. I already know the guitar is around 650/700€ without any upgrades. And the heatcrusher is about 150€.

    • @valendis
      @valendis 2 місяці тому

      - Tuners: 80€ - Nut: 12€ - Bridge and tailpiece: 130€ - Electronics (still in progress): 90€ - Bridge pickup: 150€ - Guitar: 650€ All that for a total of 1112€. So, less than the price of the expensive Epiphone version and he handpicked those parts. The bridge pickup will be replaced by a Seymour Duncan Distortion Sh6: 150€

    Loved the "Daughter". Don't hear them very often. Personal observation on the pots & pickups on the Tokai to the newer & older Epiphones. Tokai just doesn't have the depth, variation or even gradient / sweep when looking for tones, volume & taking off drive. Tried plenty of Tokais, but never fallen in love.

    • @valendis
      @valendis 2 місяці тому

      Glad someone recognised Daughter! This is a chinese Tokai, that might explain why it's not killing the epiphones here. For me the Japanese ones feel like a lottery ticket, you're never really sure if it's a real one, what year it is, what model it is, you might end up with an outstanding guitar but there might be a problem with it. Sometimes I struggle to buy second hand because of this thought: "why is he selling this guitar, what's wrong with it?" I also didn't find affordable ones with the look I was going for (with ebony fretboard). Maybe if I go to Japan and try the guitars directly there that could change my mind.

    • @paulcopsey6573
      @paulcopsey6573 2 місяці тому

      Youth is one of my favourites, but Daughter one of my daughter's favourite bands. Saw them in Brighton a few years ago. My daughter has played loads of their stuff at gigs over the years on acoustic, although she makes my Les Paul's & 335s sound great when noodling around at home she has never taken them out, but has recorded with them occasionally. Certainly the guy in the guitar shop in Dartford loves his Tokai, but must admit he always emphasises the Japanese made older ones are the ones to favour.

    The tokai sounds a bit too thin for me played in clean… I can hear much more definition of each note in the Epi LPC 2024. The Epiphone LPC Kalamazoo headstock is not far from the 2024 model tho… those 500 make you think if the 2024 model is worth the extra money… 1st EPI 2024, 2nd EPI Kalamazoo headstock, 3rd Tokai for me. Great video!

    • @valendis
      @valendis 2 місяці тому

      I like the bridge pickup on that Tokai but it's super hot, it was hard to have dynamics and it's also an upgrade from the stock pickup, the clean was neck/both and yeah it's too thin for my taste When it comes to the Epiphones I much prefer the cheaper version, I have another video where I resume the problems I had on the expensive one you can watch it if you want (it's in french though...) Regarding the sound signature of the two guitars, again I prefer the cheaper version but it's a matter of taste, the Gibson pickups are way more mid forward.

Under a thousand bucks and you’re pretty much there, unless you want the chunky neck. Great video! I was actually surprised that the Tokai did very little for me, I’m usually a fan.

    I played one of these yesterday in a store and it feels cheap. It's rediculous heavy as well. Like heavier than my Artist TC59 that I demoed a few years ago. The neck is super sticky and feels exactly the same as a Epiphone Les Paul standard or Epiphone Les Paul Custom You're paying 300% more for a Seymour Duncan pickup, a Silverburst finish and fake Schaller tuners that are not very precise and jump a bit as I discovered oh and a cheap plastic Epiphone hardcase. Also just below the Adam Jones hanging on the wall in the store was a Brand New Gibson SG standard in limited TV yellow for the same asking price. Beautiful👍And to the left was a Fender Ultra Strat for less than both. You'd have to be an absolute Smeg to buy a Chinese guitar over a US. I love AJ and have been listening to TOOL since the early 90s but no thanks man. It's Chinese. Premium prices and made in china should never be an actual thing in my book.😂

      You must have played a 800 dollar one... The new ones are way way way better than the regular earphones.. Light years ahead... They range in weights between 7.9 pound up to around 9.3...the perfect weight zone for a les paul... The neck is super smooth and the correct profile... The case is premium and just the same as regular gibsons... I have a gibson les paul cherry burst standard and the case is no better than the on the new custom... Everyone will have an opinion on any guitar.. You have to take what you can afford and that's not always a good thing.. This one is very low priced for the quality and specs... No offence to your opinions but its just a brilliant guitar that feels, looks and sounds up there with most gibson les paul but minus the nitro and the price tag... New nitro on the neck of a Gibson les paul custom is sticky in comparison to polyurethane but does smooth out a bit faster with wear. People will appreciate the price difference between epiphone regular and the premium. 1200 might have been alot of money 15 years ago, but it is not alot to ask for in 2024.

      I, actually, way prefer the cheaper one, QC is flawless on mine whereas it's terrible on the expensive one. Honestly I'm pretty sure it's about having a "good one" more than anything, the important thing is to be aware that not all the guitars are the same. And you can get an expensive Gibson with terrible QC... Nothing new here

  • @pauljohnson3686
    @pauljohnson3686 2 місяці тому

    I used to have the cheaper version but the neck profile was too weird feeling for me and it was constantly going out if tune, even after setting up... The headstock shape was ugly as well and was emphasised by the binding.. Otherwise it sounded quite good to say that it had the epiphone mud buckers on board... I have owned a gibson les paul standard that I bought new in 2001...It is in need of a 2nd re-fret after years of gigging... I thought that the new epiphone custom would be a nice one to replace it whilst it is out of action..,especially given that it has the 498T/490B paired pickups.. and the chunky neck profile.

    I noticed my video where you commented the bass was quiet so I will upload it again, I'll leave my response to your comment here! I'm very happy with it in general, I wanted a Jazz bass in my arsenal and this was my choice, but I have to say that I have a love hate relationship with Jazz basses is not really my type of sound I discovered after that the sound that I like is the sterling musicman humbucker, so my opinion could not be completely neutral, on the good side, I've been with it for 4 years and never fail me, gig it a lot, and works perfectly. But there are a few things that annoys me and there are I found the bridge pickup too thin ( might be for what I say before) and I don't like the vintage saddle on the bridge, I don't want to change anything because I might probably sell it in the future, or maybe not, I want to try to play it more and find the sound thay I like.
