Be Aware of Your Surroundings Make Sure Everything Adds Up
The sermon today concerns Gideon, who was preparing to battle the Midianities, who had an army of 135,000. God had Gideon reduce his own army from 32,000 to 300. It was with this group that God gave Gideon the victory against overwhelming odds. From this we learn a few things: 1. With God, ALL things are possible. What is impossible with humans is very possible with God. Logic would say it is ludicrous to take 32,000 against 135,000, but totally suicidal to take a mere 300 against the same number. Yet the Bible gives the permanent proof that this 300 defeated the 135,000 -- all because of God's hand in it. 2. We should be aware of the company we keep; who surrounds us. Gideon had 32,000, which was too much in God's eyes. We can have so people and things around us that we are distracted from seeing God. Just as God cut the fluff from Gideon's army, so we need to cut the things and people from our lives that keep us from seeing God.

The sermon today concerns the prophet Elijah and his encounter with the widow of Zarapheth. During the time of famine in Israel, God told Elijah to go to the city of Zarapheth. Here, He said a widow would provide for Elijah. The prophet obeyed and went to the city. Meeting a widow there, he asked her for some water, which she went to obtain. He then also asked her for a morsel of bread. To this...

The message today concerns the publican (tax collector) named Zacchaeus in the Gospel of Luke. Zacchaeus had heard that Jesus was passing through town. Zacchaeus had heard great things about Jesus and wanted to see him. However, Zacchaeus was a short man, so he could not see Jesus due to the tall crowd. He did not let this stop him, however. He ran ahead to a sychamore tree and climbed it so as...
A Debt We Can Not Pay

The sermon today is on the Crucifixion of Jesus. The entire purpose of His coming here was for this (and the subsequent Resurrection both are necessary). The Lord Jesus was crucified to pay the unpayable price that all of humanity had to pay which was death for sin. Humans have sinned, so humans had to pay for it. The Divine Justice demands that the payment for sin is death, but that would requ...

The sermon today concerns a lame man, his four friends, and Jesus. The Lord had come to Capernaum and was teaching in a house. The house was overcrowded with people who were there to hear Him. A lame man had four friends who had heard that Jesus was in town, and so the friends brought the man in hopes that Jesus would heal him. However, when they arrived they saw they could not get in the house...

The sermon today concerns the words of Jesus to the Pharisees. The Pharisees asked Jesus why His disciples do not fast as they do. Jesus responded with stating that the friends of the bridegroom would not fast while the bridegroom is with them, but when the bridegroom is not with them, then they will fast. He was referring to Himself and His followers; the disciples do not need to fast while th...
Only God Can Judge Us

The sermon today concerns an encounter with Jesus and the religious leaders. The scribes and Pharisees have brought to Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery. They quote the Mosaic Law and its guideline that the woman should be stoned. They then question the Lord on what He says should be done to the woman. The Scripture says point blank that they asked their question so that they may accu...

The sermon today comes from Psalm 100. It is unknown who is the author, although it often attributed to King David. The Psalm is a song of adoration and praise to God. In it we are to recognize that we as humans are shown to be special to God, in that He made us. Of course, He is Creator, so He created and made everything, but the Psalm shows a most tender part to this: This God, this Creator, ...

The sermon today concerns the parable commonly known as "The Rich Fool". The context is that a man came to Jesus and asked Him to speak to his brother so that the brother would divide the inheritance with him. Jesus takes this as an opportunity to speak on God's Kingdom principles. He warns against covetousness by giving the story of a rich man who was abundantly rich. He was so rich that his b...

The sermon for today concerns the Pharisee known as Nicodemus, who has come Jesus at nighttime to discuss matters with him. Nicodemus acknowledges that Jesus must come from God, stating that all the miracles and teachings Jesus had accomplished could only be done if God was with him. While what he said is true, he was still short of the whole truth in that he didn't quite get that he was talkin...
No Reason To Be Afraid

The sermon today is from the book of Psalms, number 27. In this song, King David expresses his confidence in God and His delivering power. David asks the rhetorical question of "who/what should I be afraid of when there is the Almighty God who is on my side?" This confidence is based on David's faith in God and God's faithfulness. God had shown David how He can and does deliver him from trouble...

The message today concerns the calling of the disciple (and later apostle) Levi, commonly known as Matthew, the writer of the 1st Gospel of the New Testament. Jesus has called Matthew to follow him, and now Matthew has thrown a feast in celebration of his new life. Attending this feast are Pharisees who question why Jesus (as a known prophet/man of God) is associating with "sinners". Jesus resp...
