FFXIV is way better than 12.

It was the last FF to have a large customisable party, different job system (more Zodiac age tho) secrets and quest chains and acquiring summons that weren't grinding.

Ni No Kuni has a cozy spot in my heart. It's a fairy tale. It's a playable Ghibli movie to some extent. It's childlike with its story, exploration, and the monster catching system was a big draw for a lot of people who played. My boyfriend and I had just started getting into gaming together. That was his main hobby. I was beginning to game more with him as well as watching anime. It's got a special place in my heart because of how fun the game is all the way through. One of the things I'd nitpick was how Esther or Swaine, Oliver's traveling companions, used way more mana if you let them handle the bosses on their own. From what I remember anyways. I think they all shared each other's mana. Overall, Level 5 and Studio Ghibli teaming up to make such a wonderful JRPG made an impact on what I could enjoy from video games again after such a long dry spell of not playing games due to life circumstances, college, and my interests going towards other hobbies. I enjoyed your video insights. Ni No Kuni will probably top the fan favorites, but there's room for Ni No Kuni 2 for people who find positives in both games. I enjoyed the mostly fairy tale focus and adventure of the first game more than what I was seeing in the second game from what I watched of my bf playing it. He may finish Ni No Kuni 2 some time, but very unlikely with all the other games he's playing. The main story line being more political in nature. I prefer stories and media that focus on other worlds and fantastical ideas you don't normally get to see in our world.

I remember not liking the game at first, but being blown away by the graphics of the cut scenes. Especially the flock of birds in the disc intro. It wasn't until about four years ago that I went back and beat it. Yiazmat is BY FAR the hardest ff boss I have encountered. Even more than the stupid tortoise in ff15.

Someone told me that at the end credit scene a percentage of quest completed would pop up. Can anyone confirm this? For the psx?

What does Final Fantasy and Stephen King have in common? They both have shitty endings.

Played through this game about 20 times, even 100%'d it 4 separate times. Probably spent most of my teenage years no-lifing this beautiful game. Then The Zodiac Age came out and now i get to experience it all over again with all the changes i wished i could get from the Zodiac Job System version.

This is my favorite ff entry even above 6 and 7. The only downside to this game was the summons being utterly useless but also being the coolest weve ever got

I'll do you one better the only final fantasy games I actually care about are 12 and tactics sometimes maybe on a good day I might be concerned with seven or eight and I acknowledge that six has a history but I was literally a baby when it came out and I don't have any nostalgia for it but tactics tactics is arguably the greatest final fantasy game ever made followed very closely behind buy final fantasy 12 More video games should consider running parties through a Gambit system like 12 the closest thing I've seen outside of the game is maybe Kingdom hearts but not really

Man your words really touched the inner child within me. I really like this game, it is well tailored and has a deep story. Whenever i come upon it i just go back like 20 years from now to the time i first played this game. I am reading now the novel and it's really cool and give more information and makes the plot more realistic.

You should try Jade Cocoon if you haven't, its as much a Ghibli game as Revenant Kingdom is (you know, only tangentially, but the spirit is there).

I think your statement that FFXII was the last great Final Fantasy game is definitely how a lot of people who went through all of the games from the beginning feel. You're a better man than me for saying that you like the recent games. I find FFXV absolutely awful. And refuse to buy FFXVI or the VII remakes. The franchise is dead to me after FFXIV. The XIII trilogy I could just about put up with. Though to this day I have no idea what happens in Lightning Returns even though I've 100% achieved it on Steam. I just spent the whole time dressing Lightning up in the various humourous costumes and taking Steam screenshots of her. I think all that happened is that the devs believed their own hype at some point. And could just release any game with any battle system, and the mug punters would fall over each other to buy the games. They're probably right to be fair.

Liked it at the time. Love it with hindsight. Nowhere near my favourite Final Fantasy game. But that isn't saying much because it's definitely in my top 20 of all time games. (with probably 10 of the 20 being Final Fantasy games.) Fran is my favourite character from ANY game. Never mind Final Fantasy. The first thing I did when Viera were introduced to FFXIV (MMO) was make a Fran lookalike character. The main thing that riled me about the game right from the outset back when it released, was the random chest contents. And I still think it's a silly idea. lol

X and XII are my favorites.

The SMT/Persona stuff tapped into the anime world way more than FF and that stylish presentation was a hit compared to FF which has kinda been the same style of game since FFX came out. They all feel like FFX and look like FFX.

I bought this last year for PS4, but I've yet to play it. After learning about it and seeing the setting, story, characters, and gameplay I could just tell it was something special, so I bought it anyway, knowing it'd be sitting on my backlog for a while.

Yes, Persona is now Atlu's main series but don't forget the SMT and many other traditional JRPG series Atlus holds and are just as good as Persona, including, obviously, Metaphor Refantazio. I personally never liked Final Fantasy, specially the ones with the ATP system (VI - X), and abandoning the ATP for more action oriented systems really made me forget about its existence. SMT is my fav franchise of all for all the reasons listed in this video and much more.

has but also a negative for Persona going forward is that popularity, by becoming bigger they've become more generic broad appeal design, sanitization and censorship to older games leading to weaker remakes, streamlining for the lowest denominator of gamers and really just uniqueness in its style by that sanding off of anything they view as "problematic" really Persona is going to have the same problems soon

It’s not ATLUS, it’s Falcom who took it over long ago already, if you ask me. Most games coming from ATLUS just put me off 🤷‍♂️

My favorite childhood rpg

IMO FF9 represents the best installment of the FF franchise. But the success of FF10, a very good game, catapulted the series to try to be at the cutting edge of graphics at the expense of other elements of gameplay, storytelling, and world building. Hopefully the franchise will continue to correct course with its next installments.

Back when it first came out you could use any weapon on any character, and I finished the game and just bought it on PS5 on sale and now it's a totally different game and made the game more interesting. I read up on it, so they watered the game down for us players in the states. As now you pick your class/job right from the start, so I am playing back through the game it is so much better imo.

I only played ff7 8 and 9 and those were great memorable games on the ps1. In my opinion the recent ff games have lost its charms

FF XII is a great game. Too bad the FF franchise lost its spark after that.

IMO Final Fantasy is like the "boomer" who says things like, "Kids love iPods, we need to put iPods in the game." Meanwhile Atlus is just like, "Let's make the best turn based RPG that we can." Ignoring the false narrative that nobody likes turn based RPGs. (Yes, false narrative. Pokemon is the biggest selling franchise and it's a turn based RPG)

Maybe in the sense that the two companies ended up way oversatursted their output with these two series. I really miss Atlus circa 2003 to 2013.

Final fantasy died after this game.

Its cas major games are now rarely being made for gamers and instead its to make more money or to push an agenda,that why older games feel magical and really fun.

In my opinion, perhaps it's wise to compare persona with things that alike, such as tales of series or sword art online series, not FF. FF is at almost 180° different genre/style. 🙏🏻
