Tavi Woodlands DH tracks. Anything left to ride at this once legendary venue?

It used to be that the tracks here were maintained by the people that run Gawton. When you bought a day pass it covered you for both sites. But then a new landowner (a hedge fund manager) decided he didn't want mountain biking on his land, & the tracks were 'closed' - which is pretty difficult to do when a public bridleway runs straight past them. It's been a while since that happened & I was c...
Sketchy lines Ep.1. Bottom of Slingshot, Canonteign.
Переглядів 1382 місяці тому
This section of Slingshot has a a gradient of 57.1% & some exposure. In my view this is the trickiest line at Canonteign. In particular the run in to the first drop is very awkward & it makes it hard to set up regardless of whether you are going to lift the front wheel or hit it with speed.

Are These Dartmoor's Most Technical Secret MTB Tracks?
Переглядів 2943 місяці тому
I'd heard about some super technical secret tracks somewhere up on the moor. After spending ages looking at maps of Dartmoor I found a likely spot. Even when I got there it took me 3 hours to find them. Whoever built these did a great job.

As Raf remarked during this trip "Mountain Biking is the only sport where you can get away with looking like you've sh*t yourself. Which is of great comfort to me."
Enjoying the vids mate, I'm often out exploring Dartmoor and it's cool to see the trails you've found! Strava heat maps is very useful for finding stuff like this. Rode this bit a few years ago and it's a pretty steep! :)
congrats if you rode it clean!
@smv9338 ha! Not sure I did
Well done on that big rock 🤟 (shoutout to the cameraman)
You sure pick up some speed coming down it!
🤘🤘🤘
Hey - when & where did you meet Brendog?
Not sure we were there for an hour, & not much power either🤣
Gutted to hear you got stuck in a rut as a toddler 😢
Amazing, I assumed all the trails were demolished with the tree felling over winter. I can’t wait to head back now, cheers
No worries dude - enjoy!
Wow! Great views! Great video!
thanks for the comment buddy!
Glad ypu looked istead of just sending it 😵
Me too!!
Anything's a rock roll if you're brave enough 👀
that would be the last rock roll you ever did!
seems sad to be honest. like a playground that no longer has any kids
thanks for the comment - good analogy.
If mountain bikers can, mountain bikers will 🤘
yeah boy!
5:47 Nature lover leaps from moving bike to hug tree 🌳🥰
Gotta love the nature!
Where are the jumps located there? I did my first ride there yesterday but didn't see that trail cheers bud
sorry dude only just this - I'm rubbish at checking for comments. As you enter the site facing the cliff drop turn right & just keep going along the fire road to the right for as long as you can almost to the end of the woods.
Looks like not enough riding being done on the trails and they are full of sketchy dry leaves. Wondered if the soil underneath is more grippy?
I'm sure it is!!
You can roll the first drop. There is a rock sticking out on the right of the drop put your front tyre there. Second drop is sketchy. If you land off line your doomed 😂 (I know😉) the catch Bern by the tree stops you surprisingly well. It's a scary line. I've ridden it a lot now and it still freaks me out.
Yeah, I saw the rock you mention & that was my plan B if I wasn't in good shape for dropping it - but I never managed to get that far 🤣
Need to get up there and start clearing trails. Looks so weird no its open and not under the trees 😱😱
I spent a good hour clearing brash away from a couple of the trails, the entrances & exits to & from the fire roads are going to take a bit of work. They are not due to finish logging until mid-May though.
@@smv9338 ah. Leave it until after that. Might be a good winter project. We went up a few weeks ago for a look around reckon we can open up a load more lines at steepside.
Wow. I hard they've made a mess up there. Was that all that's left?
Steep Side, Rocking in the Free World & Supernaut pretty much trashed. Bottom of Slingshot still there, as well as a couple of steep ones I don't know the names of. Mostly just needs brash removing. The other side of the woods the tracks are all pretty much still there, & I see someone has dug in a couple of fresh loamers 🤘🤣
I hope the title isn't true :(
😔😪
Finally some sun ☀great to see you out making the most of it :)
bring on the dry weather!!
Ha my locals. as a rule, as you look down the hill the trails tend to go right most/easier to left harder there is also a few more tails around there .
Great place to have as your local! Those hard tracks are definitely hard!!
Nice! I think I recognise this, is it in Haldon?
yes, you got it!
Wow this looks so cool. I'd love to ride here if I can find it.
definitely worth a visit!
Thanks mate 👍 for sharing your thoughts on the elite. Currently, I have just ordered one, but it's really interesting what other people think about it, ok the full fat not even in the same level, fat weight is the one heavy weight 😀 laters Steve
It's a great looking bike for sure (unless you don't like tan wall tyres!), the frame looks great. I love the position of the lights on the top tube, looks like a spaceship! Your back will certainly thank you every time you lift it over a fence! Are you going for the range extender as well?
meant to say "your back will certainly thank you for choosing the E-lyte instead of the full fat every time you lift it over a fence"
@smv9338 the range extender comes in the price, the seller has just emailed me just to say that once the paint protection film is finished they will send out, I am well stoked 😀 I just sent a Canyon Strive on Limited back 😀 video is on my other channel, the package 📦 which was open on delivery and the bottom was out, the ebike was damaged as well 😀 I should know by now buy from UK shops not overseas 😀 if I was doing car jumping then I would buy a motorbike for the job 🤣 luckily for me I will off set the cost against tax, as I pay for making youtube videos 😀 this country 😀 laters Steve
@@crazybaker1 gonna be a new bike day to remember!
I meant to say, both of these bikes were great. Motor was very quiet on both. Both handled well. The Fox suspension was smooth. Great frame geometry. I hated the tan wall tyres on the Elyte though. Both had Burgtec pedals, which I had heard good things about, but my feet slipped off twice. My DMR pedals have way more grip for sure.
I have a full fat orbea wild. I would never go back to an analogue bike now
I can definitely see the advantages of eebs - way more runs, nice planted feel - how much does your wild Weigh in at?
@@smv9338 about 24kg. For me, I don't think SL's are quite there yet.....nearly, but not quite. It rides so well. I am trying out an m-team rise on Saturday at the orbea open day just out of interest. Eeb's, ride longer, further. You start thinking about what's challenging you can climb. If your short on time you can do a turbo session😂. Makes winter riding not such a slog. Yes they are a bit heavier but I feel the positives far outweigh the negatives
@@mikewelshmtb2556 makes sense. Pretty sure that is the conventional wisdom presently. Be interested in what you make of the Rise.
I tried the 150 e-lyte this morning. Not sure I fancied the 140 with those tyres on the off piste rooty bits! My first emtb ride. Not sure I'll be shelling out 10k for one though!
yep - those tyres were not the best for grip!
Enscooberation
Why are your brakes literally horizontal? That's gonna force your hands into a pretty weak position, or over extend your finger like it seems to be here. Couldn't imagine it's easy to get into a low attack position like that.
Actually, many riders like almost or fully horizontal levers. That way when you descend, the front (finger side) of your palm is resting on the grips, making it a bit of a suspension. Less armpump, more precise control, and you don't force your thumb back as much. Kinda like you don't stand on the pedals with the back/mid part of the foot, but little closer to the toes. I ride XC and my levers are almost horizontal, if i rode more gravity, they would be fully horizontal for sure. An other explanation from a pro: ua-cam.com/video/7YHDpunS4yQ/v-deo.htmlsi=7OQXZGoEHbeHqSXT
ua-cam.com/video/7YHDpunS4yQ/v-deo.htmlsi=WoLpROidaIbAQbJ1
well spotted !- its just the way I prefer them, less likely to go OTB on the steep stuff. I've tried more angled levers & I just don't like the feel.
Not rode much dartmoor, this place looks interesting!
You would have hit that double rock drop no worries!
Not been there yet. But know where they are. Try and get down there in a xouple of weeks
You'll love it, especially if it dries out a bit. Look forward to seeing you take on that double rock drop!
I definitely will. Off to triscombe Sunday 😁
Not been there. Have a good one👍
Some great features 🤘🌊
Need to get back in that skate park.
Looks like great fun!
Thanks!
Used to have a holiday home in Shaldon and I'd ride a loop up the massive hill off the Torquay road - was all brambles in the summer. Looked like I'd crawled through barbed wire. Teignmouth looks as grey as I remember 🤣
That's a big climb!
I’ve been to kernow a few times and it’s nuts how the video doesn’t pick up how steep it is! lol
Good old GoPro effect!
The steep area is great fun. The last chute onto the fire road looks way more intimidating than it is. I might have to get up there again soon 👍
Yes that steep part of the hill is awesome. I need to go back & tick those other tracks / features off. Amazing how I always feel more confident sitting at home😂
Is that Lee woods?
No, not North Devon.
Where is this fella
Sorry dude, I'd better not say, out of respect to the trail builders, as it has all the signs of being super sensitive. The wood is privately owned, with a public footpath running through it. There are no cycling signs everywhere & I met a local rider who told me that the land-owner has removed some jumps. I saw branches placed across tracks (I suspect by walkers). It's a shame as I met a number of dog-walkers & a couple of horse-riders. I slowed down for the former & stopped for the latter & they were all fine with me.
That cliff drop looked pretty scary!
I think it looks worse than it actually is. Need to go back with the full-face to get a bit of confidence.
Nothing like a bit of exploring!
3:47 that's pretty cool 🤘
I know right? I wonder how long it's been there?
Hi mate can you share where the trail is?
Hound Tor Woods, near Manaton.
When you go with the flow but the flow doesn’t go with you 😔
Brilliant compilation, love the humour 😂
Thanks dude!
😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
BPW in July dude - it's a date!
All the leaves don't make it any easier 😅 a few weeks ago, I too a broom with me to clear out all the leaves on my favourite home trail 😊
someone should invent an attachment for a leaf blower on the front of a bike!
Scary start and then it gets even scarier!!! 😅Try it again in drier conditions i due course
Cheers dude - will do!
Should have bought the enduro.
Yep, there is a reason why the 170 Atherton bike is by far their best seller. The DH bike is too good for me, I can only do about 10% of what the bike can do - it's like putting a learner driver in a Ferrari. It does inspire loads of confidence though.
@@smv9338 if your riding bike parks all the time it's probably amazing. But the enduro would do everything really well. Where abouts is this if you don't mind me asking looks fun
Hey dude, your sense of humour is almost on the same level as your riding.
Thanks buddy.
That wasn't a compliment.
😭
That dummy scares me every time!
it's a weird place for it right? Not the usual place for a scarecrow.
I know that chute well, as you say the key move is the turn into it, sure you'll get it done buddy 👊
cheers dude!
