Simple Placemats or Napkins. Fat Quarter Friendly
Make your table pretty with these simple placemats. The same method makes napkins.
You need:
Fat quarter or fabric cut of your choice.
Iron is helpful
Sewing machine makes it faster but they can be sewn by hand just as easy
Cut 1 inch bigger all around than desired finished size.
Prewashinv the fabric makes it so it won’t shrink after hemming but it’s optional
Have fun and enjoy! Vall

No Batting Quilt: Does the front show on the back
Переглядів 6053 місяці тому
Does the front of the quilt show up on the backing. Yes it can if you used a lot of dark colours on the front but it shows more in the light than if it was on a flat surface like a bed. Hope this video helps explain it 😊 I have other no batting videos on my channel and I would love to answer any questions you have Keep smilin’ Vall

thank you for explaining the use of "no batting" wow i thought it was mandatory when we sew a quilt im a beginner at this but according to you its not necessary and i think that is great so i wont feel guilty! love the look of your quilts.

Oh my goodness! Soooo glad i bumped into your video❤... I am from the Philippines and quilting is not popular craft in my country (so quilting fabs and materials are commonly found), that's my first problem. But still I'm inlove with quilting. I thrive to make one, but my second problem is the batting_ (a) it's not easily available, (a.1) it's expensive. And my main concern is, we are in a tropical place. Meaning we don't have too cold/winter season. So I wonder if is it possible that I can still make patchwork WITHOUT the batting? that should fit our wet-and-dry only seasons_ _and how? I'm sooo relieved and thankful for your vlog. This is happy news for me!p

Hi SueAnn! Milliners are also called straw. You can use those or sharps, it’s more what your preference is than anything exact. Some are long, short etc. just make sure the eye is threadable for you and your fingers are not cramping.

I made a quilt using some ruby star jelly rolls and I wanted to not use batting to give it more of a kantha feel to it, so I hand quilted it and used (stupidly) very high thread count Egyptian cotton. It destroyed my hands but I will say it feels amazing to use in summer. It’s heavy but cool at the same time. It’s 3 layers in total. Two sheets and one quilt top. 😂

I have several summer spreads with no batting I grew up in Fl No AC then ! A sheet was all you needed! My grandmas and aunts made quilts with thin Mountain Mist batting that they split into 2 layers They only used one layer per quilts! So much easier to hand quilt! I have a log cabin top to finish and it doesn't need a batting either. Its nap or throw size just needs a small border and a back .Ill just tack it and machine the border like I did the last one They wash nicely and the one everybody wants if they aren't feeling well ! I dont compete and I do what I like ! Im the kid that colored Santa in plaid pajamas ! 😂

I really LOVE the work you did on your quilt, it looks absolutely beautiful, just my style. I also love how you stick up for yourself regarding the quilt police. Iam also a bit of a rebel with my quilting, no one is going to tell me what I like in my quilts. Years ago I was told that for a pale pink, blue and cream design I also needed to put a "zinger" in it. I dont know if you know that terminology, its like a cat among the pidgeons. Anyway, I said no to that, and the teacher didnt like me after that. I continued with my quilt and it turned out perfect for my blue bedroom, I still use it and love it immensely, so thank you for sharing !!!

Very good question and yes they can. I do use a lot of off white so my backs tend to be off white and you can see to a degree. but as you dont show that side, its not really noticed in general. If the top contains no white, you can use any back you want.

Her fabrics are ok and I do like the fact that her fabric lines coordinate with each other. I don’t want to hv to spend 300$ for one quilt. Jmo.

Oh my gosh you have no idea how much I love actually seeing that someone besides me likes quilts with no batting! I have done a lot of patchwork over my sewing years but never call myself a quilter because I simply cannot be bothered to follow rules😂. I love the look of edge to edge quilting but would never ever personally use a quilt with batting … they are much to firm for me as I want my covers to melt and conform to my body shape. I don’t use interfacing in T-shirt “quilts” because I like a little stretch! 100% cotton? Puleese. I love going to the thrift store, finding used shirts in all sorts of fabrics and textures then making simple patchwork for babies. It is so awesome to watch a baby sitting or laying on a texture “quilt” and touching all the different fabrics. The light of discovery in their eyes is absolutely priceless.

OMG finally someone w the same thinking. I want to try quilting but I think I would'nt want to use batting. AS for T-shirt quilt I have been thinking not to use interfacing since I see most videos always use interfacing for the t-shirt quilts. I wonder if hand-sewing would be more suitable for non-interface t-shirt quilt.

I would imagine if you hate the thickness of cotton batting that poly was disgusting to you! :) It is definitely thicker. Yes, I agree with the others - you do what you want to do when it comes to quilting/piecing, and all things sewing. These are not right/wrong issues.

I AM a craft hoarder 🤣 I had fusible interfacing & a bag of polyester batting. Got my QAYG degree from UA-cam & made 2 quilts. His Mom saw them & asked if I would make her 1 with the shirts she had been saving from her Mom for 15 years.🙏 Would I also make 1 for her sister & by the way…she also saved her dad’s shirts🤦🏻‍♀️. I just finished the last one ❣️ (short video of it on my channel) Those quilts are HEAVY but they live in the North East so they LOVE them. I’m in FL. My brother in law asked me to make him one. He has ALS & I have to make it lighter 🤔….so from the bottom of my heart…Thank you🙏🥰🙏
