The funny thing about the gateway arch is, it’s not for everyone. If you are an engineering or architecture nerd, you will love it. But she’s right. The view out of one side is a dirty industrial area and the river, and the view out of the opposite side is the city of St Louis.

Turning the tempeh bricks over in the glass container: genius. So simple solution. Looks good. I had Lifelight buffalo tempeh strips once and it was so good, now I just pressure steam any regular tempeh in the Instant Pot with chili garlic sauce. Best way to eat it. It's so good. I am going to have to make my own tempeh, now, too.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is managed by the National Park Service, and it was the first of the nation's four national lakeshores to be established (in 1966). The lakeshore includes some 15 miles of cliffs along its 42-mile length.

Yes, the US is incredibly diverse! I feel very lucky to live in the USA! There are temperate rainforests in the Pacific Northwest and I guess Puerto Rico has a tropical rainforest.

Alot of foreigners talk shit about America politically and that i can understand. When it comes to tourism though, the U.S of A has some of the most diverse biomes when compared to any other country. We have some of the hottest coldest biomes on Earth, we have coastal plains and beaches, swamps, plains, some of the largest and oldest mountain ranges in the world as well canyons. Honestly the only thing we are missing are rainforests but I will raise you redwood forests! Seeing acres of trees wider than 20 men can hug around is eye opening.

5 experiences you must do in the USA before you die: 1. Visit the Everglades- Visit Shark Valley where you can do a tram tour and go up the Shark Valley Observation Tower. The Everglades is the only place in the world where crocodiles and alligators live together! I also recommend doing an airboat tour. 2. Hike up to Mount Rainier- This is the Skyline trail, which is a 5.5 mile loop that gets you up close to Mount Rainier. I would recommend bringing spikes for your shoes and hiking poles, because there is still a lot of snow in July. For a short 1 mile hike, take the Skyline Trail to Myrtle Falls. For a longer hike, do the 94 mile Wonderland trail around Mount Rainier 3. Experience Yosemite Valley- my favorite hike is the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls. After Nevada Falls, hike back down on the John Muir Trail for a 6.5 mile loop. 4. Hike or drive up America’s mountain, Pikes Peak- You can hike, drive, or take the cog railway up this mountain. There is a visitor center and cafe at the top. If you hike, start at Crags Campground early in the morning. This is 14 miles round-trip with 4,300 feet of elevation gain. We got a ride back down from the top to Devil’s Playground. 5. Hike the Narrows in Zion- You can go as far as you would like here. I would recommend renting water shoes and pants. Arrive early as the parking lot fills up quickly and the Narrows get crowded.

Tips on getting started ⬇️ Check out my other videos for backpacking recipes! 🧮Calculate the calories in the meals you make to make sure you have the right amount of food. This is especially important for longer hikes. 🍲 Use your dehydrated meals right away! They are not shelf stable for very long, maybe a few weeks at max. 🫒Add oils to your meals, like olive oil or sesame oil, later at camp not when you are dehydrating. 🫘 Some foods dehydrate very well like black beans, rice, and vegetables. Some foods do not dehydrate and rehydrate well at all like chickpeas and tofu. 🍎If you don’t have a dehydrator you can buy freeze dried fruits and vegetables and add those to noodles or couscous which you cook at camp. 🍛 @stasherbag is perfect for rehydrating food. I also keep it under my jacket to keep my food warm while it is rehydrating Subscribe to @plantifulpicnic for more backpacking and USA adventure content!

Instant Chocolate Mocha Mix Recipe: Ingredients: 5 tablespoons coconut milk powder 4 tablespoons granulated sugar 2 tablespoons cacao powder A few teaspoons instant coffee powder based on taste preference Optional: handful of chocolate chips Method: Sift in coconut milk powder and cacao powder through a fine sieve into a bowl. Add in the sugar and instant coffee powder, and whisk until well mixed. Add in chocolate chips. Transfer to a container. At camp: Boil water. Scoop in 2 to 5 tablespoons of mocha mix into each mug, depending on the size of the mug. Pour over boiling water, mix well, and enjoy! Coconut Rice and Black Beans: Ingredients: 1 cup cooked rice and quinoa 1.5 cups cooked black beans 1 banana chopped 1 teaspoon onion powder 2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast ¼ teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons coconut milk powder 3 tablespoons dried coconut Method: Dehydrate the rice and quinoa, black beans, and banana in your dehydrator. Once it is all completely dehydrated, mix in the rest of the ingredients. Transfer the dehydrated meal to a single bag. At camp, boil about 2 cups of water. Add the water into your rice and black beans meal and wait about 10 minutes. Or you can cook the rice and beans in your pot like I did until it was fully rehydrated. See my other posts for the other recipes!

We took a trip in 2020 to see the Rocky Mountain National Forest. I should have taken it easy my first day, haha; 14k plus, and running around like a kid; I spent the night recovering from altitude sickness... With some good rest and a few eggs the next morning, I was ready to go. It was a very beautiful place. There is so much to see; I recommend at least a week to see most of the attractions.

Hike details: This is Rocky Mountain National Park. The hike up to Chasm Lake is 8 miles round trip with 2,500 feet of elevation gain. However, we decided to make it a two night backpacking loop. We started at the Storm Pass trailhead, hiked over Storm Pass, and camped one night in the Goblins Forest. The second day, we hiked up to Chasm Lake, over Granite Pass, then down to our campground, Boulder Brook. The last day was an easy 2 miles down along a cascading river with several waterfalls. If you do Chasm Lake as a day hike during the summer, you will need a timed vehicle entry pass. Summer backpacking permits for Rocky Mountain National Park open up on March 1st and sell out within minutes. Both can be obtained at recreation.gov

Recipe: Total calories- 608 cal and 21 grams of protein For the sauce mix: 3 tablespoons coconut milk powder ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon onion powder 2 teaspoons veggie broth powder (I got this in bulk at a health food store) 1 teaspoon dried garlic 1 teaspoon dried thyme (I also brought fresh thyme to sprinkle on top) Dash of black pepper ¼ teaspoon salt 1 ½ teaspoons mushroom powders (I used ½ teaspoon each of shiitake, lions mane and reishi mushroom powders) 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder 6-8 dried shiitake mushrooms chopped 3.5 ounces fettuccine noodles (quicker cooking noodles would be better for backpacking though) Optional- vegan jerky or dehydrated soy curls for extra protein and calories Method: 1. Sift all of the powders into a fine sieve. Add the rest of the ingredients for the sauce mix into a bowl. Whisk to combine. 2. Chop shiitake mushrooms and weigh pasta. Break pasta in half. Add the sauce mix into a reusable pouch and the mushrooms and pasta into another pouch. 3. At camp, boil 2 cups of water. Add the pasta and mushrooms and cook according to the pasta’s cooking time. 4. Drain just a little bit of the water. Add the sauce mix and mix to combine. Optional: Drizzle olive oil on top and sprinkle fresh thyme Enjoy!
