Was really excited abt participating in the 2025 popsugar challenge after being disencouraged by this year's list bcs of prompts like the kpop one (i simply wont read ir bcs i kmow i won't enjoy it) and they come up with this last line prompt. I refuse to be spoiled by the last line in a book for a reading challenge 😭

I’m sorry you were so disappointed with make this season bright! I’m 55% of the way through the audiobook, and at this point I definitely am not rooting for them to get back together. I’m not having the same issue with the flashbacks though. Glad that you enjoyed under the mistletoe with you! I look forward to reading that one in the future.

I also DNFd Make the Season Bright, I got halfway through and realised I didn't care 🙃 when Brighton kept getting confused because Charlotte didn't want to talk to her, I could not get past the AUDACITY 😭 if I'd left someone at the altar I would be shocked if they could stand to be in the same room as me

Im feeling this! I did my first ever readthon this year with Realmathon and proceeded to do like four more after!! So much fun but also a lot of pressure. I’m setting my goal at 3 readathons in 2025 and working on ways to prioritize balance between reading and the rest of my life 😊

The Amazing Readathon and Escape the Readathon were my favorites

Lots of fair points here, very recognisable! I must say you are a very good host in the readathons, I've enjoyed being on your teams and I like that you're around (in Europe time) with comments and sprints. But you could probably dial it back a bit and still be a great host. Of course it helps if the other hosts are around as well, life permitting. Personally, I enjoy the team spirit of the readathons but I don't like that I didn't have time to really absorb the books and that I chose books just for points (manga, I'm looking at you). So I think I will still participate, but keep reading at my own pace and only the books I actually want to read. I do like the prompts which make you look at your TBR differently and pick things you hadn't considered reading Right Now.

It’s funny that this was the start of the video reading burnouts 🔥 I actually heard some great advice if I can call it that.. reading is your hobby, your not reading to be critiqued by others or being tested on what you are reading so just enjoy it and treat as it is your hobby. And when I heard that I learned that it is okay to put down books you are not ready to read yet and not feel guilty for enjoying your other hobbies. Because aren’t hobbies suppose to be enjoyed and not tiring or forced and not feel like a tasks that needs to be completed instead of being accomplished. Have great night 😊

Team Friends! 💜 I also felt like I should always be reading and I even found myself getting books specifically for the readathons instead of reading my bookshelves, which wasn't the best thing for my goals. They are lots of fun, I just need to learn to balance things a bit better 📚

I really loved TAR and the way the prompts dropped really worked for me - I have discovered that making TBRs doesn't work for me, because when I actually plan my reading, I don't want to read the books anymore. I will read the first book (when the the decision to put in on the tbr is still new and shiny!), and maybe the second, but after that I probably want to read anything, but not the books on my tbr. TAR kept things new and shiny! But I also hear you on the burnout (I read so many books during May and June. So. Many.), and I have to think about how to handle that next year.

I loved TAR the most, but looking back there were a few factors that fed into that experience being a positive one: it happened while I had a shorter wprk week, so I had more time to read, there was a really active bunch of us in the Discord who vibed with each other, and I was mostly reading books that I wound up loving. Lately, I have felt more of a need to relax with my reading and take away that sense of urgency that readathons create. After a few months of consecutive competitive readathons, the constant pressure to always be reading so you don't let your team down was a lot. Ive been enjoying the last couple months of reading whatever, even if that means Im reading less.

I really enjoy competitive readathons, but they definitely take a lot out of you. I did a mix of competitive and non-competitive readathons. Plus, I do a few year-long challenges as well. I haven't finished most of the year-long challenges, but I'm fine with it. For the most part, I just fit books into prompts when I could.

Team Friends 💜TAR was amazing and I loved getting to know everybody, we had such a nice team. Though I didn't participate in a ton of readathons I've still felt burned out. Competitive ones are great but for me personally they cause a bit too much self imposed pressure. I end up reading too many (for me) books and then I don't enjoy them as much.

I've decided not to do readathons next year. I'll be doing year long challenges instead. Readathons don't work for me since I'm such a mood reader and cannot force myself to read a certain book at a certain time. It puts me on a slump instead of helping. 🥴🙈

I only did the Amazing Readathon. For me, that’s enough structured reading. The downside of readathons is that I read books that I’m not interested in - reading time is a finite resource.

Full credit to you for even trying to do so many. I would have been overwhelmed and burned out like you said. While I love readathons, I've learned two major things: 1... competitive ones make me feel bad about myself and my reading (as I don't feel like I'm contributing enough), and 2... I am not a fast reader. 2 or 3 books a month is my max and 3 is pushing it. I think you got it in one. There needs to be a balance and that can be a really hard lesson to learn.

So many readathons. So little time. So little energy! I keep saying I'm not going to do any big readathons this year unless it's one I've done in the past and I'm asked back but then I go "But I have the fomo so I'll probably do it anyway" :P

I discovered there has to be someone I speak to regularly doing the readathon like you, Brittany or Leandra, I will literally forget it’s happening. The competitive readathons are really good for my reading, I was in a real slump from about March - June. And have been pretty consistent since then. With the competitive readathons I thought when Margaret announced a break during Fablen it was a great idea, and the skip a stage that Bri put in the Amazing Readathon. Just something that lets people catch their breath. Hopefully 2025’s Irish readathon will be better for me. I was in such a slump I struggled to keep my focus on Foster by Claire Keegan. The audiobook is an hour long!

I’m reading Make the Season Bright right now. It’s really good so far! Sloan and Charlotte are in a classical spring quartet.

I have already read the resort recommendations because I love a romance set at a resort apparently. 😂 I will be reading the thriller The Guest List for that one.

I read 29 books for the 2024 challenge before I gave up. Some prompts I didn't liked & some I didn't get to. We'll see how 2025 go. :)

Glad you liked Just for the Summer! I have no interest in The Rom-commers and I have to say that it's also because I hate the cover...

Instead of going for an AI chatbot, I think I'll be going through the "similar reads" feature on Storygraph OR the program my library has where it recommends books based on what I show interest in!

Something you said made me look up The Rom-commers and buy the ebook. Why does her father need a full-time carer? He doesn’t need help bathing or dressing. It sounds like he needs home care. Which even in Texas is a thing that exists. ‘You need to nag him’ no, if a grown man doesn’t drink enough water that’s his responsibility. And there’s no discussion with him about the other sister taking over his care. It’s written like she’s talking about a child. But I’m hate reading the rest of it now!

A couple recommendations. For the dystopian book with a happy ending, I would say that the space between worlds has a happy ending. For number 50, good night Tokyo.
