CW POTA Practice - Lake Norman State Park US-2740
#morsecode #hamradio #pota Lake Norman State Park, US-2740, is the closest POTA entity that I have access to. Possibly, it is not the closest, but it is definitely the most comfortable. I think I'm going to attempt a Kilo there.

#hamradio #solar #overlanding I was determined to have 12v power in my vehicle to power radios and devices. I was convinced using the chassis / starter battery was not the best idea. My experience with RVs led me to the idea that batteries specifically for supplemental purposes was the best idea, and would leave the vehicle battery alone and healthy. It's been a couple years with me trying this...

    Have you been able to connect to the Bluetooth?

      @Bill-HRT 11 днів тому

      Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it! As far as Bluetooth, I never gave it a try. Once I got it running as a gateway and connected to either my phone or cell hotspot via wifi I stopped tinkering. Have you tried contacting the software developer on github?? Let me know? See you out there. 73 de Bill

    • @Bill-HRT
      @Bill-HRT 19 днів тому

      Thanks for stopping by, watching, and joining the conversation. I like that paddle. First of all it is always with that particular radio because it doesn’t fit anything else. It’s solidly connected. It is however a potential point of failure if the radio is dropped, leaned on or otherwise mishandled, but I’m willing to take the risk for the convenience factor. It’s well-built and works well so far. It’s not a Begali, but it’s excellent in the field. See you out there. 73 de Bill

      @Bill-HRT 29 днів тому

      I appreciate you stopping by, watching, and taking time to join in. Thanks! Well, this is my first attempt at touch keying. I'll find out what the ups and downs are. I appreciate the head up, though. I'm not really sure this is capacitive . . . I heard Adam, K6ARK make mention, but I didn't listen well enough, I guess; it's his board and design. I think I will ask him again. At any rate, thanks for joining in. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    • @Bill-HRT

    Last night on 40m I heard someone say he uses bow and arrow. EFHW is a nice configuration. I have one. It runs along the top of a wooden fence and then rises to a 16 foot tall inverted V. I reached someone in Hawaii last night from San Francisco.

    • @Bill-HRT
      @Bill-HRT 29 днів тому

      Thanks for stopping by, watching, and taking time to join in the conversation. Yup, people use many techniques to get that antenna up there. I've never used the bow and arrow yet. The slingshot is another popular methods, and so is the spud gun. I have, however, used a drone with a drop mechanism, and that works well, too. Sounds like yours is making the trip pretty well. Good job. See you out there. 73 de Bill

      Kyle! Thanks for being here and joining the conversation. Man, you don't know how close I was to pulling the trigger on that molded panel at Moore Expo. I had ciphered a way in my head to make it work; it was better than one with an aluminum framework. If I had been in my own vehicle I probably would have bought that one. I'm glad I didn't. It was about (3)x the price, and not exactly what I wanted. This panel works for me pretty much as I had it worked out in my head. Until I saw Jason KM4ACK's video, I was going to find or design a small, low-profile rack for the top of the pickup. This worked out great. Thanks for stopping by. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    The brand that turned out to be a disappointment to me was RADTEL. Two became "unreliable". I've also had a Yaesu VX-150 give up the ghost, and the top knob on the Icom V-86 go haywire. The 150 was long out of warranty and Yaesu wanted $45 just to give a repair estimate (not deducted from the repair cost). Landfill. I haven't contacted Icom yet...

      Thanks for watching, and taking time out to join in the conversation. I really appreciate it. I’m playing the with the latest H-3 now, and really like it. I still think TIDRADIO is going somewhere with its radios. Thanks for sharing your experiences, and hope it turns out better than not. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    I have had mine for a bit and have not had any of the problems people talk about.

      Thanks for watching and taking time to join in the conversation. I have had mine since the video, and I haven’t had issues either. Then again, the one I have now is the second version. They sent it to me because Charlie had issues with my first one. I attribute any glitches to rf from the efhw. I also don’t have a super fast speed. So, I’m good with it. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    SUWEET!!!!!!! After getting home from Hamvention, I ordered the QMX+ kit for my POTA go kit. I plan on doing most of my POTA from my Kawasaki klr650 adv bike. Wanna be somewhat light and small but…….I’m digging what you did here! So far, I’m using a SOTA beams mast, km4ack efhw, American Morse “DCP” and a bioenno 3ah…..more noodling to come. Also doodling a setup for vhf/uhf via Bluetooth set up for my Kawasaki…..

      I love it when someone is really into their kit, and it sounds like you are! Keep having fun with it. I really appreciate you stopping by, watching, and joining the conversation. Come back and share what you find. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    I’m working on a low budget 6x10 myself. My original idea was multipurpose; general use trailer, toy hauler (for my Kawasaki klr650), and camper/ham shack. Have it insulated, a couple windows and a max air roof vent. Still noodling with the rest of the layout. Hauled it for the shakedown run from IN to Hamvention and did some camping ….definitely looking forward to trying to have it more complete in hopes to make Huntsville. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for stopping by, watching, and sharing your design! I’m glad to meet someone out there also doing this. I wish you’d pulled me to the side at Hamvention. Make sure to get my attention at Huntsville. This build consumes all my time, but I’m having a lot of fun with it. Also, I’m learning a lot. Just “finished” the shower plumbing and feeling content. Come back and talk about your build anytime. See you at Huntsville. 73 de Bill

    Off to look at the base of my Chameleon whip to see how it is constructed. 73, Patrick KF4LMZ

      Thanks for watching and getting in the comments. I appreciate it. I also have two Chameleons, and I think they are made very similar to the Alpha with the milled end. I think mine have a set screw. There are definitely many out there. I don't get rid of my crimped telescopic antennas, but when I'm buying another one I hold off until I find one with the milled end.++++ At any rate, the best antenna is the one we have on us! See you out there. 73 de Bill
