My name is Tommy Jobson and I am a horologist (clockmaker). I offer a complete bespoke clock making service based in rural Shropshire (UK). I design clocks around my client's input and ideas and manufacture by hand using mainly traditional methods. I also offer a comprehensive repair and restoration service for clocks and watches. This channel is aimed at giving a fly on the wall view of me in action.
Pultra 1750 Clockmakers Lathe MOTOR UPGRADE
Upgrading my trust old Pultra 1750 by fitting it with a new, 3 phase motor and inverter set-up from Power Capacitors.
I have always fancied improving the motor set-up on this lathe, and when the old single phase motor started to pack up I was confronted with the perfect opportunity.
This video is NOT sponsored, and I paid full price for my set-up, however I would like to recommend Transwave/Power Capacitors if you would like a similar set-up. I have used them for all my machines, including my rotary phase converter, and both their products and service have been excellent every time. transwave.co.uk/Packages

Replacing ALL the teeth?!

In this video I show the work I did to restore a wheel in a Chronometer. The wheel had been damaged and would certainly have been a candidate for replacement, but I wanted to try and repair the damage without replacing the wheel. See how I got on and let me know what you think of the results. Follow along with all my projects by subscribing to my channel and following me on Instagram @tommy.job...

In this series, I will be covering all the work required to restore a nineteenth-century bracket clock. This is part 6 where I cover the process of restoring the dial. I corrected this work by stripping the plating, restoring the black wax infill, re-graining, silvering and lacquering to ...

2:48 - I noticed the Gauge Plate required a carbide tool. In America we don't use this terminology, "Gauge Plate", but it's my understanding this is O1 Tool Steel? Is that correct? Thanks!
fantastic videos, thank you
Just aquired a 1770's verge fusee pocket watch. Inside is beautiful and immaculate. Only problem is, it doesnt run. The fusee chain is fully wrapped on the cone. Any ideas please.?.
Hello! How bad pinion and pivot wear usually is in Thomas Mercer chronometers? How is quality compared to soviet 6MX chronometer?
Another job well done young JOBson. What Microscope set do you use or recommend for clock repair? Jt TheClockworks
The amount of patience needed for this kind of work - never mind the skill and the tools - is remarkable.
very good work
I was considering making this clock design but now I’m wondering if there would be a better option? What I would really like to make is a mantle clock about this size that is an all metal wind up design. I really enjoyed your video, thank you!
Absolutely stunning work.
Valeu!
Please you have book plan pdf?
Good job very nice
Very enjoyable, thankyou👍🏻🇦🇺
thank you.
Huge work 🖖
Fantastic work, but that sure seems like a heck of a lot of time and effort (and expense!) to go through for "This gear doesn't look right..." 😉
When doing something like this, is it important to recreate the original angular offset between the outer teeth and the pinion teeth? I mean, can you just start cutting the outer teeth at any angle, or does it need to be referenced to a tooth on the pinion?
I am a violin maker watching clocks videos 😊,nice job, you are trully professional! Thank you for your time.
Wonderful work 🙂
I thought Galileo proved that the pendulum, as long as it remained the same length, took the same amount of time to swing, regardless of amplitude. He’s saying the opposite, that once the clocks wound down, the amplitude decreases and the frequency decreases also.
You sir are a genius take a bow
What do you recommend, catgut or wire for fusee movements? What are your thoughts?
Great video!. Thank you very much.
High , I have a Grandfather clock , now in London from Mold in Flintshire with a seconds Pendulum, It will be two hundred in 2026
Very very good job👍👍
This is where a nice NC filter would be nice to have, much cheaper than having to replace a lens 😃
Not sure if this was addressed already, but why didn’t you just make a proper sized pinion gear?
An excellent restoration, (I watched all 5 parts in one sitting.) but at what cost, and who's paying? As a retired clock repairer it looked to me that a good clean and lube would be sufficient to get the old thing in running order for a few years.
Вітаю,у вас є чому повчитися 😊❤
There is something magical about old educational films right down to the rounded corners and dirt on the gate.
You are a true craftsman. Really enjoyed watching you detail every step. Thanks for a great video.
Dan Parkes has his name on Watchmaker Court in Clerkenwell, the building where he and the other guild members worked. Of course it's now refurbished office space for creative consulting agencies.
Excellent series of videos on the English Dial Clock. Thank you!
Very good video from Japan. Thank you for uploading. Do you know how to cut the worm gear? I'm really interested in fötenuhr and want to know.
3:42 oh! Bery bery guddo lol 3:57 watto al yu doingu?! yamete! °o° tasukete kudas- !! 4:20 Oooooh .. now I can see everything
Excellent work
Beautiful job. I'm not a watchmaker, I do small turning and make gears so I am familiar with your calculations etc but what I didn't catch is what do you call the gear cutters you use as they have a different profile to the standard involute? If I ask for a horological cutter would that get the right profile?
Hi. I have a chronometer in a wooden box, can you repair? Thanks John.
An interesting video. The complex, precise work is admirable. Thanks !
🤯 What a masterful job and the final achievement is magnificent!! 👍
you are awesome
Hi. Do you use these two different oils (HP-1300 and 9020) throughout the movement (minus the mainsprings)? Do you use any grease? I'm starting clock repair as a hobby and was wondering which oils I should buy that would cover all my needs. So far I have used some generic "clock oil" + "clock grease".
Ok
Am doing there some u do too
Fanweels
I really enjoyed it. The precision amazed me……Thank you.
How much did you charge for this flawless job?
Beautiful tool🤤🤤 Thanks for sharing Cheers
Being who I am, I became very annoyed that I couldn't see what year that top surface was manufactured. But then I remembered that you are British, and is the year the first or last number in the date code? :)
SIR. congratulation you are a real proffessional.that is a master piece. BRAVO.
