2021.8.14 // Korg Electribe Dawless Jam
Just a quick test for a format.
No sample packs used. All sound generated organically using resampling.
Check out my series on how it's done:

Korg ES1 // Sound Design Completely From Scratch // Part 2 - Clap
Переглядів 3,1 тис.2 роки тому
Continuing on from part 1 where I generated a kick drum sound from literally nothing; I'm doing the same thing with a clap sound. I skip over some details that I covered in the last video, [ua-cam.com/video/031bIPJNpXI/v-deo.html] but if you have any questions please put them below. I know I speak like somebody trying to explain the instruction on how to disarm a bomb while at gun point, but I'...
Korg ES1 - Kick Drum Sound Design
Переглядів 7472 роки тому
Using built in effects, motion control, layering, and resampling to generate kick drums sounds. No external effects! I don't narrate anything that I'm doing, just filming the process so everything in this project is documented and you can see I haven't cheated. I'll go into more detail about what I'm doing later, but if you have any questions put them in the comments.

How do you use a sampler to generate sounds without connecting a microphone or any other external gear? Sounds impossible, but the ES1 can do it. You can probably use this technique on other samplers as long as they have a resampling feature. There's probably a name for this technique but I'm not aware of it. Let me know in the comments if you know.

How to fix an old/faulty encoder dial on a Korg Electribe. If my rambling becomes tiresome, go to 6:00 to skip disassembly.

Same content as the other video (ua-cam.com/video/e5eS3nAV-r0/v-deo.html), but without my innane blathering.
Superb idea. Really need to try this one out.
Totally worked for my EA-1 mk2, thanks for this!
lovely ty
❤god blessed you
Nice one this seems to work!
Mandatory viewing for anyone who wants to maintain, refurbish or just clean an old SY77/SY99!!! One note: if you go to the considerable trouble of dismantling the device, it makes sense to replace all electrolytic capacitors with new ones. A dry capacitor can cause semiconductor components/micro-chips to fail (usually when the synth is switched on), and that may be fatal/irreparable. There are also very useful aftermarket parts such as USB floppy emulators, better displays, additional ROM memory, replacement push-buttons etc. that can be fitted as part of this process - my SY99 has even been fitted with encapsulated precision potentiometers for pitch and mod wheels. SY77/SY99 are absolutely fantastic synthesizers, among the finest ever built, and very well worth the effort!
Great video! 👍
Phenomenal tutorial! Love your sense of creativity. I have the original ES-1. :)
I'm insane!
I bought an ER1 a year ago and cant find any info on how to format all thse songs already in it...THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I INTENDED TO DO WITH THIS CAN ANYONE TWLL ME THE ACRUAL STEPS TO DELETE ALL THESE PREVIOUS SONGS ON MINE? I CANT FORMAT AND GET NO SONGS IN THE LIBRARY..CAN ANYONE HELP ON AN ER-1???? PLEASEE THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
NOT FOR SAMPLING BUT JUST TO FORMAT SO I CAN START FROM SCRATCH...
Big job. Recently finished mine too. New tact switches, rebuilt power supply, etc.
Pulling the reed switches is probably best. Really easy to damage them when reinstalling the keys.
the screen damage seems like impact damage, three points, kind of equidistant from each other, might have well been something with metal prongs that first impacted, then scratched the screen?
Why do U think these "levers" on the sensors were bend. That cannot happen with normal playing. Or does it?
Nice piece of equipment, U got there.
geeky
VERY well done BUT : WTF, play a kick drum from a drum machine, it's simpler !
The SY77 appears to have the same keyboard assembly as a Korg M1 (or more correctly, the other way around as my M1 keyboard PCB is branded as Yamaha)... those key contact leaves (@ 21:42) are tricky to service as they can easily fold under the key as you reinstall the key back into the chassis... take lots of care doing this and go slowly.
Well done! 👌🏻👏🏻 How many hours did you spend on this job?
Sehr interessant 👍
The intern battery why it done??
Always check trussrod function b4 going any further.
Doing this full restore myself. I found only 2 very small metal spacers and have no idea where they came from! I’ve looked through the video but can’t find note of it. Do you happen to remember where these 2 little washer/spacers went? 😅
❤best wishes from Vienna ✌️ 🇦🇹
I’m killing myself learning how to use the ESMKII. I’ve watched all the other videos figuring I don’t need to make a kick drum from scratch, but now I’m watching it, you learn SO MUCH watching this. this has maybe taught me more than any other video
Keep receiving a er.7 message when I’m trying to load samples after clicking shift 15. Any ideas? Thanks :)
🎉
It must have took a long while to work all that out !😮
About the display scratches... I have seen those displays with some deformation/bubbles on them, but it was from factory that way. Perhaps someone thought it was some glue and tried to get it out
🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏Thanks!!!
thank you for this. incredibly inspiring. just in time for my new es1 mk2 purchase
That's why the rack mount version (TG-77) is preferred used. No keyboard problems. Drive with a keyboard of your choice.

Thank you for this video! It was immensely useful to me. My cat peed on my SY77 (😖UGH!) so I had to disassemble it to clean. Every single detail in your video was extremely helpful for me to remember where each connector and circuit board goes. I can't say I'm confident about what I did, there's something wrong with the way it sounds now, but I think I might have switched the keyboad connectors when reassembling. I'm gonna take a look at it now, and here I am back to your vid! Can't thank you enough!!!
Great work and very helpful. Thank you.
I just replaced the LCD screen on my SY-77 with on I bought at Mouser. I had to do some modifications to the power that supplies the LCD backlight and modify the circuit the adjusts the contrast. When I made the nods I deicded to remove and clean all the keys. It would have gone great except for two things. I did not remove the trigger board as you did, so when I reinstalled the keys I bent about 10 of the trigger contacts. I was very upset. I did fix them but now I have a new problem. Most of the sounds are now messed up. Even the facotry presets. I believe it is something to do with what creates or modifies one of the AWM sound engines. I am still in the process of trying to figure out what I might have done. Grrrrr!!! Great video, by the way!
Came for the info. Stayed for the commentary
Let me guess before you start… input less mixing where you connect the headphone out into the microphone input? I remember as a kid long before I ever got a synth I found a mixer and messed around like that until I fried my parents stereo 😅
Nice jam buddy, what was the Camcorder please ? How did you make that steel shelf above your crt ? Thanks
Einer der besten von Electribe mit einem Hammer Hardware Qualität
That was great, please do more! I have one of these units, and it's very inspiring to see you demonstrate these tips & tricks. Subscribed!
Hello, do you have to reinstall factory sounds after changing the battery?
yes, you do have to restore factory patches also after battery was depleted (which just happened to me ; )
Subtitulado en español porfavor
Thanks for this. I’m on my second encoder now after soldering a new one one a few years ago. Gonna give this a whirl.
Masterclass !
i can't find any more of this technique. hard to search for
amazing
Just got an ES-1 and this tutorial is perfect! Thank you
I have an SY77 which I've had since 1990 and I've been searching now through the internet for quite some time now after someplace or someone who might know how or where to replace this... fucking tiny battery thing! And then - I come across THIS video with THIS guy!? Dismantling the whole bloody thing like nothing! I couldn't DARE to do HALF of it - even if I played the video in slow motion a hundred times over! And he goes "didn't get all the screws back in" - oh you don't say!? But then again, I'm quite the opposite of a handy-man. Amazing to watch anyway, I do say! Now, I know this is an old synthesizer and it would probably be both cheaper and - most likely - smarter for me to buy a brand-new MIDI master keyboard altogether, considering all the new features of today but.... I liked (still do) the keys on it. It has sort of a special weight that I like. But I suppose the more annoying part is that I was hoping to make a digital recording of some old tunes I made with it long ago. Well, providing that the old the sound data/samples would still be intact that is, which I'm not sure they would - even if you replace the battery, as I understand it. In any case, I'm not shipping the damn thing to Japan! ; )
Alotta work to resample over and over again but older synths work just like this off of white noise
Wonderful video! Thanks for sharing your expertise. I`m considering buying an SY77 which has one broken White Key. Do you think it`s possible to replace it without disassembling everything as you did in this video? Whilst I am reasonably practical I lack the confidence to do an entire strip down. Kind regards
